Beautiful song! My grandma went to Ireland because she wanted to see the place where her mother grew up prior to coming to America. She said it is beautiful there. I hope to go one day. Irish music (from what I have heard) has a flowing melody and honest lyrics. It's just what music should be. No gimmicks, tricks, or flashy outfits. Just beautiful music speaking for itself. That's what I love about Irish music! Cheers from Virginia, USA! :)
@ I did, actually! For a class in college. I wrote mostly about Irish folk music! It was fun! I even heard songs I hadn't heard since my grandparents sang them or read them from their poetry anthologies. I learned a lot about Irish folk music being such an integral part to their oral tradition. I mean, think about it. How do we learn best? Through stories, of course!
Don't get any better than this . The great Liam O Flynn absolutely destroying it at the end too . The best of the best. If you've made it here, congratulations, you have excellent taste in music .
I think Andy Irvine has a genuinely unique and distinctive voice .unmistakeable!!He has certainly done a great service to folk music in his distinguished lifetime. Thanks Andy......
The same with me here in Austria. Have been to Ireland seven times yet, but the moment I am back home I wished I was in Eire...I´m homesick for a country I never lived in.
Im Irish, my wife Danish, but when we on our honeymoon spent 2 months in ireland and especially Clare island, my wifes mind was blown away. Never have we experienced such beauty and trangquility.
Planxty gave me so much... Being the son of a Bavarian folk musician, Planxty and the Bothy Band just showed me how precious and powerful the music of our Gaelic friends can be a couple of miles northwest from here.
I was born and raised in England and my mother god bless her soul was from clare and she always said to me I was born in the wrong country and this song always reminds Me she was right x x 💙
+Richard Joslin My musical ignorance is one of my greatest joys! It means there's always the possibility that something as beautiful as this band can grace my ears unexpectedly :)
Andy for an englishman, you are the pride of Ireland. I'm come from the parish of Ogonelloe on the beautiful Lough Derg between Scarrif and Killaloe. I have seen planxty many times in the Merryman Tavern. Thank you Planxty a gem of Irish music.
Not strictly an englishman. English born maybe but of Irish and Scottish parentage and having lived in Ireland for long periods of his life, entitled to call himself Irish like the best of 'em.
One year ago i was at the irish west coast to learn English. I often think of this time and wished i were back there.... My Heart isTonight in Ireland..... Best wishes from Germany, Christian
I spent my first Christmas away from home in China, listening to this crying my eyes out. Now I listen to it and cry out of nostalgia for my early 20s, and the time I spent in China. It's funny how the significance of things changes over time.
Beautiful..thank you to my lovely chara who introduced me to some of the lyrical culture denied to me for so long..if you ever see this, you'll know who y'are & I love you for your soul. 💚🕊
And listening...my heart tonight is far away across the rolling sea ...in sweet County Clare.... so long ago and far away...when the music flowed so free!!! Many, many thanks!
Christy is a great rhythm guitarist.I have never heard anyone who can accompany damn near anything with only 4 or 5 chords and still sound right.Changed a string for him in the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon in 1982 and he invited me back to the bar afterwards for a dry sherry or two.😂😂.Thanks Christy and you're even better now.
After energetic jigs and reels, that I used to adore, but though find it mindless. These guys along with The Dubs and Paul Brady made me fall in love with the Irish music. Gave me a deeper understanding, if you like. Those peculiar accents that each of them did or doing is a thing! I wish I could do that ))) Thanks for uploading.
est-ce qu'on peut trouver cet enregistrement vidéo dans le commerce d'un des meilleurs groupes toutes catégories que j'ai connu: ils sont encore meilleurs que dans les années 70!
My first stop after a 5.5 hour flight from Boston has always been Milltown. All I can say there is nothing like it. Go see see the old lady at the Malby (Dierdre ?) .....worth the the price of admission.
@captainnemo87 wie gehts christian, from the west but living in germany past few years...great to hear planxtys music is treading across the seas..viel spaß
Maybe, technically, as a musician Christy is behind the others but Planxty would not have been what they were without him as front man. The others all acknowledge that in Leagues O'Toole's book.
This masterpiece by the great Andy Irvine never fails to bring a tear to my eye. It's just beautiful.
I wish I had the Cd with this on it!!! 💞💕❣
Who's listening in 2025? AND...where are you listening from? 🇮🇪 🇮🇪 🇮🇪

RIP Liam: And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
Listening with nostalgia and such love. Also such sadness. What a piper we lost when we lost Liam.
Loved planxty and all the years I will never forget the songs and the brilliance of the instrumentals !
I LOVE THEM TOO!
Brings back great memories. great stuff fellas, a great sentiment.

Have just discovered this band, and what truly wonderful and heart-warming music.
Yet another gap exposed in my musical ignorance!
+Richard Joslin My musical ignorance is one of my greatest joys! It means there's always the possibility that something as beautiful as this band can grace my ears unexpectedly :)
Well stated, Sir!
Sure that is what it is all about Richard ....opening our minds, our ears and our souls......

i've been going down to the willie clancy fesitval now for about 5 years, the festival holds his spirit in the music, and it still flows free.
I have seen Andy play in AUSTRALIAN many times and always enjoyed his music. Also drank a few pints in Miltown Malbay pub in 1978.
Beautiful
County Clare.
Home of traditional Irish music.
After energetic jigs and reels, that I used to adore, but though find it mindless. These guys along with The Dubs and Paul Brady made me fall in love with the Irish music. Maybe, technically, as a musician Christy is behind the others but Planxty would not have been what they were without him as front man. The others all acknowledge that in Leagues O'Toole's book.
