I am travelling to Dublin from South Africa to see Paul Brady at the Vicar 15th April 2024 and can hardly wait. Maybe Paul will invite Andy along to join in in a few songs.
It's 1am, I'm watching this again, and again, totally entranced by all of them on the stage. Faces and voiced I've loved for so many years. And at the last song, I'm alone in this living room clapping wildly...and damn near giving them a standing O, like I'm there in the theatre. Such brilliance is a gift to the world. I hope they know how much they mean to all of us. Thank you, Kevin, Andy, Paul, Donal...
Everything about this is golden. Paul is so happy to be there, Donal too, and Andy is as jolly as I've seen him. How Mr. Irvine does what he does playing upside-down harp in a rack while playing those gorgeous mando runs is beyond my understanding, but bless' im for it and for that unique Andy tone in his voice. There's a touching gentleness and even lovely vibrato now in Paul's voice along with the clarion tone and power it's always had. And Donal is sitting over there out of the spotlight, but as it was when the Brady-Irvine album was recorded, he's a big part of why these songs are immortal. I posted earlier before I recognized the great Kevin Burke in there, hence this edit. 4 masterful musicians there. Thanks so much to Folky Celtic for posting this.
I saw Paul play in the US a few years ago - got a front row seat in a smallish club. He played that one (and the rest of the show) about 5 feet away from me. Unbelievable.
@@GlennFink he's got a lot of power as a performer, charisma that comes across more when you're close up like that. For this concert we were right up in the stands, about as far back as it gets but I'd seen Paul before right at the front, he was one of the guests at a tribute concert for the late Robbie Brennan, drummer. I was three rows away, he came out totally against type and played a storming rock n roll set - Elvis' - One Night With You, and Larry Williams - Slow Down were two I remember. My Dad said it was the kind of stuff Paul regularly played when he was in the beat group scene in Dublin, in the mid 60s. You'd be surprised what a good rock n roll and soul voice he has!
Saw Paul Brady tonight in the Town Hall theatre in Galway - what a performer - Lakes of Ponchertrain + Homes of Donegal + Arthur McBride - brings me back
Ireland will never be short of the most brilliant leaders and advisers as long as Andy Irvine, Paul Brady and Dónal Lunny are on stage playing their most brilliant music, those men are Irish to the backbone, yet they area Europeans, yes they are men of this world, no Brexit here.
When I heard him in Germany he played "Băneasă’s green glade" and you could close your eyes and his voice was young and you could imagine you were in that forest back in the 60s. Magical. And the artist in his 70s on the stage. A wonderful concert in front of a small and intimate audience. Beautiful.
This is golden - every single song's like a trusty old friend you've known for decades who never lets you down and always makes you feel grand, though you may be shedding tears of mirth or nostalgia.
As a teenager I had a Planxty album (or rather a cassette copied from a mates’s album) and I think the Best of the Bothy Band. I recall at the time I loved the music but after 30 years in Asia I sort of forgot. The other night I listened to an interview with Karen Matheson of Capercaillie and she mentioned how much of an influence Paul Brady and Andy Irvine were. Subsequently spent hours and hours listening to these guys in the last two days. By God they were brilliant and how in retrospect I missed them. Now sharing their music with my sons., something I should have done a long while back.
These gentlemen have carried their talents for many a year and this concert demonstrates these talents in abundance! Hopefully, also to people who may not have heard these terrific musicians before and came across this concert perhaps by chance ....or by sheer good fortune..🤔 It is a memorable anniversary celebration and may we continue to hear these wonderful musicians ....also for many a year!
Fine music ,,,,I was a great Johnston’s fan ,,,,,a long time ago ,,and Paul’s gave me some tremendous times listening to all his old and new stuff ,,,,and of course Andy goes back to the old days of traditional folk ,,,,,,they have certainly contributed a great deal to the music that we all love ,,,,,thank you

I discovered Brady singing and playing as a red haired kid with the talent of a player twice his age. He sang with such conviction and surety. I was sure at the time I'd never heard anything so perfect.
Brilliant !! La voz y el arte de Andy, la infinita energía y carisma de Paul, el talento del gran Donal, el trabajo de Kevin... Thanks, thanks, eskerrik asko lagunak!!❤
Dear Friend at 'Folk Celtic', Thank you *so* much for sharing this; it's wonderful finally to be able to watch the concert that was put together to commemorate the album. With kind regards; Patrick. ;-))
I echo the sentiments below. Loved the album back in the day. A folky girlfriend recorded it on cassette and I took it with me to South America. Left it behind in Ecuador and was very happy to find it again on RUclips. And to then find this wonderful concert with four brilliant musicians was a real joy. Spinetinglingly good! Love a lot of Brady's ' modern ' songs especially Spirits Colliding but it's great to see him back playing the old songs and obviously loving it. Thanks so much for posting.
Dad used to play the blue album in the house decades ago...I was about 8 when it started. This show brings up all that had been. . .cheers lads. You're all good smoke.
Many many thanks for years of joy, listening to such beautiful music and keeping history alive. Do you know how important your work is? I suspect that you do-bless you all...

Oh! To have those times back when the world may have been difficult for many, but at least it was Real and made sense. Even the begger on the streets received a certain kind of respect from people. Today I see humanity in decline because they have lost connection to their soul Get it back folks.. Nothing is lost until it's lost
First time I've seen Brady/Irvine play a whole melody. Nice reels.....lovely playing. Sweet seeing the great Kevin Burke with them. Wish they'd given him an opportunity to play a tune or two solo.
Quit your groaning ,for God’s sake. I was hoping Elvis was going to join in as well, but he left the arena. So I had to settle for 50+ minutes of exquisite Irish music .
Christy Moore/Planxty's, "Little Musgrave" and "Cliffs of Dooneen"; Andy M. Stewart/Silly Wizard's, "Land of the Leal"; Paul Brady's, Homes of Donegal"...and Irvine/Brady's version of "Bonny Woodhall"; if anyone knows a song as or more touching than any of these, I'd love to hear it.
@@jschofield5034 I just listened to the Andy Irvine/Planxty tune, Time will cure me," and you are right, the song is quite moving and mournful. The tune also hits home for me, as it probably does for countless others. I always hated the devastating intonation, "Can't we just be friends?" One-sided love, or love lost (the aching pain expressed in Gordon Lightfoot's heart breaking song, "If you could read my mind" fully captures the emptiness that comes when you lose love for another), but it can be harder when you are the recipient of someone losing or not having love for you. I must say, the rejection side feels worse, as it's out of your control. Thanks for the tip!

Ireland, you have such great musicians.
Greetings from Germany!
I was there, with my Dad, both waiting all night for Arthur McBride. You could hear a pin drop during it, it was absolutely stunning.
In June I called Kevin on his 70th birthday. Said the lads were set up to tour the states. The pandemic then "paid them off in cracks..." Hilarious!
I'm not a massive fan of the Strabane man but nobody gets close to his renditions of "Andy Mcbride" and "Paddy's Lamentations".
