    I started playing rugby at 11, I was taught to tackle and how to be tackled, I’m 70 this year and I’m still here! There are no downs; unlike NFL the game doesn’t stop when the ball touches the ground. Rugby is a continuous, flowing game and until there is an infringement the game continues. It can sometimes stop for an injury, but not always, then also if the ball goes out of the area of play and also infringements. Women’s rugby is excellent, very hard and fast. You’d be best watching a video of the laws of the game. The Six Nations tournament is on at this time (basically the European Championship), so you could catch up with that for interest.

    Love Rugby. This version is called rugby union. There's also rugby league as well which has specified plays or downs as you call it.
    In Rugby the team plays until they either score or lose the ball. Scoring can be done via tries (touchdowns) or penalty kicks at goal.

  • @andrewdavies1383
    @andrewdavies1383 6 месяцев назад +18

    perfectly legal to drag someone by the shirt off the field . A score is called a try . And you then get to kick for a conversion similar to when you score a touch down and you get to kick for an extra point . Some basic rules . You can only kick forward, but when passing the ball from the hand, the pass has to be backwards from where you release the ball . Tackles have to be below the neck, and you have to attempt to wrap the opponent, which means you have to attempt to wrap your arm around the opponent as if you were attempting to hug the opponent you cant just do like a close line . Thats why they usually duck low to tackle because if you wrap the legs its easier to bring the opponent down . A scrummage is when you have the 2 packs from each team ( a pack consists usually of the 8 biggest men on each team ). They duck into like pyramid formation consisting of 3 at the front , 3 in the second row and 2 behind . The idea of the scrummage is the 2 packs push against each other and the ball then gets thrown into the middle of the scummage and the idea is to hook the ball backwards for your own team to then have possession of the ball . The ball can be turned over to the ooposition when a player is tackled he has to release the ball straight away the opposition can then lean over and pick up the ball but they cant step over the man who was tackled to pick up the ball he has to stay on his feet and try and lean over the tackled player to get the ball . Thats why when you see a player thats tackled he always tries to land facing his own team to give them a better chance of retrieving the ball and make it harder for the opposition player to retrieve the ball . Turn overs are quiet common in rugby because lots of fouls are committed in rugby, and that usually results in penalties, which then give the ball to the opposition .

    • @nox6885
      @nox6885 6 месяцев назад +3

      Correction my dear sir. You can kick the ball in any direction, not just forward. Your arms are the only part of your body where the ball has to be passed back.
      "KNOCK-ON LAWS": For a knock-on, the ball must come off the hands or arms, not any other part of the body, not the head, not the stomach, not the chest, etc.

My son and many of his classmates all go to the gym 4 to 5 times a week. Players are bigger, stronger and faster than they used to be. Any slight miscalculation in the tackle can lead to injury or concussion. In my sons class, there have been the following injuries (among other less serious ones): broken collar bone, dislocated shoulder, broken leg requiring surgery as well as the already mentioned concussions. The boys all play in the schools cup rugby competition. Notwithstanding the improved safety rules, It is truly more dangerous than it used to be because of the size, power and fitness levels of the players.

    A touchdown in Rugby is called a try and they actually have to touch the ball on the ground to score, unlike a touchdown which you dont actually have to touch the ball down. The reason it is scored a try is because in the early days of rugby the try did not score anything all it did was enable you to take a kick and try to score a point by kicking the ball over the posts from opposite where you placed the ball on the ground(we now call that a conversion). now a try scores points and the conversion also scores points

    • @davidlacoste
      @davidlacoste 24 дня назад

      Yes it is.
      It comes from the history of the game, originally, you wouldn't score points with a try, you were only allowed to try to convert it with a kick (like in gridiron football), which was scoring the points..
      So you needed to make a try, and then convert it to score.
      The game evolved over the decades and now the try is worth 5 points (but still called a try) and the conversion is worth 2 points.

    The move where people lift each other up is a line up. From the side lines. It’s after the ball get lost over the side line. The scrum half (who feeds the ball in to the scrum) throws it and the rest of the scrum players jump. There are set calls to indicate where the ball is going to be thrown. It’s like the throw in UK football - socket. The scrum has three at the front row - a left and right prop ( the biggest players on the field usually) with a slightly smaller player in middle. The hooker, his job is to hang between the props and hook the ball rear of the scrum to be picked up and played to the wing. The second row has four big buggers with one in the Center back of the formation. He can sometimes grab the ball and peel off if the field is open. A dominant scrum wins the game. The scrum is given in the event of a foul or knock forward ets.
    Look up Rugby scrums, rucks and mauls. Players 1 to 9 are the scrum and are the key, dominance in this is the game winner.

The only way you can send the ball forward is by kicking so he caught the ball on the line at top speed, accidentally drop the ball so kick it before hitting the ground so it would not count as fumble and caught it for a 5 point try. This comment is for Asia , in New Zealand young children play a non-contact version called Touch Rugby which has become popular with adults as well often with men and women playing together on the field, there is no tackling and is great for developing fast footwork dodging other players. Basically if the opposing player taps you with their hand the game stops. Full contact rugby is discouraged for most children under 10. The UK and Australia have something similar as do other countries no doubt so you would not have to be worried about your child getting injured . hello a touch down is called a try in rugby, that jumping part is a line out which happens when the all goes out the sideline, play keeps going until there is a penalty knock on or the ball goes out, it is physical but you get your body used to it playing all the time, but damn you feel it the next day when you get hit hard!!

    We have rugby in primary school (6-12 Years )... High school (13-18 Years) and in University.. Play only stops when a try is scored, a foul/penalty is conceded or the ball crosses the dead ball line. Training is everyday and the team compete against each other every weekend...

    If your recording with OBS you can separate your MIC and Desktop audio, for when you put it on the timeline of your editing software. So in Audio Mixer, click on the 3 dots and click advanced audio properties, then you should see tracks with Box's 1-6, both for MIC and Audio Untick 2-3-4-5-6 for MIC and Untick 1-3-4-5-6 for audio.
    So MIC should only have Box 2 ticked and audio should only have Box 1 ticked, now after recording, when you place the recording on the timeline, you should see both audio's, SO.. any copywrite music or audio you find, you can cut out.. with out losing, your MIC audio.

    Mother of 3 rugby boys here. All 3 started playing when they were 3. My eldest twins played in what we call the u/20 currycup (south African provincial teams playing against one another), they were also in a very competitive rugby school. Both still play aged 21. Both are props. The worse I jury any of my kids ever had, was a broken arm, due to falling on it during a tackle. That's it. No concussions, maybe some stitches here and there, but really nothing major. There bodies are trained for this. We have a saying that they have to be match fit, meaning if someone comes back from an Injury, they first have to do certain rehab to get them ready to actually play in a game again.

    Pass sideways or backwards.
    When tackling or being tackled.....you must release the ball or man straight away
    When tackling...you must wrap your arms....no shoulder barges
    When kicking.....your own player must be behind you before playing the ball
    Plenty more.......

    Some tackles are hard definitely and some they are use to and know how to fall. But we generally know a bad tackle, no high swInging arms/ clotheslines allowed, no more picking guys up off their feet and drilling them into the ground like back in the day. Surprisingly they have tried to tidy up the game recently, some would say there's too many rules now, but league and rugby still an exciting game!!!! Great reaction guys!!!!

    Growing up in a country where Rugby is the main sport you don't even think twice about playing it, it's just in your blood, I was small and thin and I also ran middle distance on track too so I was more about using my speed to get past and around people than smashing though anyone, but there's nothing quite like the adrenalin kick you get from a rugby game, it's so exhilarating.

    I'm a native born American. I took up Rugby when I was 24, right after I got out of the navy. I LOVED it. there's two parts to the game; the game, which is rough and tumble, and the drinkup- where the home side (team) hosts the visiting side (team). No matter how tough and brutal the game was, you party together and have fun. Lots of drinking and nasty songs. The drinkup starts by "coronating" a Rugby queen(usually an unsuspecting girlfriend).
    In rugby, you never disrespect the referee, always address him as sir. I'm 72 now, when I played it was rare to meet an american who even knew what rugby was.

    Asia asked about when the tackle ends. Unlike American football (where I think the tackle is done if any part of your body touches the ground besides feet) in rugby league and rugby union the tackle doesn't end until you lose momentum while under a tackler's control. So when guys hit the ground then jump back up it's basically coz no one is there to hold them down to complete the tackle.
    And BJ, in rugby union there's no tackle count, you just hold onto the ball for as long as you can (but usually punt strategically). In rugby league there's 5 tackles (like 4 downs) so you'll usually punt on the last one just like NFL. But unlike NFL you can't get more tackles/downs by gaining yardage. You get 5 tackles, that's it, you punt. That makes it a constant arm wrestle for yardage and field position.

    they wear gum-shields now but a lot of rugby players look like extras from fight club by the end of the season. No it`s played from age of 10, there are forwards, backs and half-backs , the forwards are big, huge, the backs are big but fast the halfbacks are smaller but quicker, more agile as they tend to boss the game, they train hard for the hits so they don`t require padding or helmets, greatest game in the world, fluid and tactical.

    A Score in Rugby Union or Rugby League is called a 'Try' its the same as a touchdown in NFL! A try is worth 4 points and a goal attempt is awarded after scoring a try! If the goal goes between the posts, it's worth 2 points in Ruby League and 3 points in Rugby Union. You can also score a field goal which is a drop kick between the pots which is 1 point or an attempted penalty goal which is awarded for foul play by the referee. If successful its worth 2 points. Hope this helps

    You have "forwards" nums 1-8 and "backs" 9-15 the forwards form the "scrum" and compete in "line outs" they are the tanks of the team and the backs are the speed, forwards have the job of chasing the "pigskin" (ball) to set the play for the backs, when you get tackled you form a "maul" where the other team are able to steal the ball if they can, plays set again for the next run. The only time play is stopped is for "knock ons" the balls been fumbled forward, "forward pass" the ball hasn't been thrown laterally, "off side" the player is in front of the ball, for these they'll form a "scrum" and nums 1-8 will form a turtle, each team trying to push the other off the ball, plays set for the backs. A line out occurs when the ball has gone out of play, the team who had the ball lose the throw in. For major offenses penalties are awarded. The team can either "kick for goal" or "run the ball". You have to press the ball over the "try line" to get your points, then you can try to "convert" a kick over the "posts" for extra points. The opposition then "kick off" to start the next play.

    Many of those tackles are illegal in rugby. Any contact above the shoulder is generally illegal and can result in a red card if there are no mitigating circumstances unless it is accidental. A tackle must be below the shoulders and the tackler must make an effort to wrap with his arms. Finally, Just using shoulders to tackle someone is illegal and will be penalised. In rugby these days, we also have what is called a penalty try. This is where a try is awarded because if the illegal act did not occur, then the player with the ball in all probability would have scored.
