Wow, that's a brilliant performance. I like how Jeff always seems to step up to the plate for his late night talk show performances. No kidding, check out all of them 90s to today, he always is ready for the moment. And this is just downright lovely. A beautiful song that will stand the test of time. It's a modern standard.
Fergal Houghton Even the worst line in the song can be interpreted as great. It just the worst of all of them. And I'm pretty sure that Tweedy was speaking metaphorically. As he does very often in his art.
Better late than never. The Jay Leno audience was in general a lot more mainstream than Conan’s was. Maybe this convinced a few boomers that great bands still existed because this is a pretty good version.

@HermitageGaming, He was never on heroin, but he was struggling with an addiction to painkillers. Yes heroin is a painkiller but he wasn't on heroin. Throughout his life he struggled with alcoholism/addiction (same difference). He eventually went to rehab and became clean and thankfully has stayed sober since then.
Arsenio hall was great but hes actually still great so he kinda doesnt count because of that. I cant watch leno now. I never liked letterman. Arsenio was on later just like fergeson.
I'm so happy I finally found a live performance with the violin included. They just bring it all together for me.
yeah, wonder if the lead violin is same woman as played w/Golden Smog, she appears to be

So good
This is one of my fave live performances
Love the violin
It doesn't really do that much for me without the violins
This is so beautiful. Love the violins. It just may be my favorite song, and I'm 70 years old.
Such a fine arrangement for the violins, i agree with you.
The strings, the bass line, the percussion is all heavenly. I was 14 months old when this aired originally, but I just love Wilco.
I just heard it on the radio for the first time ♥️
That bass tone is delicious.
Sounds perfect
Liam Gallagher! Is it really you
as you were
Biblical
this song is so powerful i cannot believe how overlooked it was by many, even this entire album is still amazing.
Love the fact I just found this and im from sep 87
Appreciate the gentleness of this.
Perfectly perfect perfomance. So mellow.
After all these years, this song still gives me the feels. One of the greats.
best version of this

That beginning gets me every time
you had me at "Our love is all of God's money"
actually its the worst line in the song
Only stupid people get to fight over something beautiful so I will not replay anymore
Okay mate go herd your goats and don't "replay" anymore. I'm gonna keep replaying cus I love this song especially that line that you hate.
Fergal Houghton
He never said that he hated the line. Why don't you grow up?
Fergal Houghton

One of my favorite Wilco songs
Can only think of the people in the towers when I hear this song.

Yeah, you could stream it from Wilco world in September of '01

Jeff seems so sad here. Think it was a hard time for him
Zonked out on painkillers

@@drago6769 If I remember right, he was into pills, his addiction forwarded by an unscrupulous pharmacist.
@@scotchrobbins you'd be correct. Talks about it in his book
Great bass.
"Jesus, don't cry!" "Gotcha"
Too good for Jay Leno
Leno was in a superior class all by himself.
@@donweimer5929 lmao don no he wasnt, he was a stupid unfunny hack, and stole the tonight show from letterman and conan, extremely funnier people
Totally. But when it comes to hosts of that era. O brien and Craig Fergeson. But if you had a gun to my head i would pick leno over letterman any day.
Arsenio hall was great but hes actually still great so he kinda doesnt count because of that. I cant watch leno now. I never liked letterman. Arsenio was on later just like fergeson.
Chills
Love Leroy Bach on this recording.
Bellville guy
Weird to think this was 18 days before I was born
Turning your orbit around 😢😢
Is that Katherine Keener playing violin???
Great CD and this song is transcendent even to this Atheist.
Jimmy Fallons musician cousin
he's the chillest schizo i've ever seen
damn i wasn't even born yet
Killed. When's the last time a late night band captivated an audience to the point of pure silence?
Good point
this performance was awesome but the audience is pretty much always silent on late night while musical guests perform
Jeff Tweedy, do not do the 10 year challenge. Holy shit. Dude is looking rough now.
maybe the most overrated band in recent memory. Zzzzzzz.
Jeff was so fucking high lmao
