      Yeah it’s crazy and if you run a 4:20 in high school you don’t really have a great chance at getting into a top track school like Stanford(if the mile is your main event).
      If you look at the list of Stanford track commits any of the mile runners advertise a mile time of under 4:10, and it’s usually close to or sometimes under 4:00.

      Bruhh my mile today is 10 min.. Huge improvement for me since middle school so many years ago..
      I used to run then walk every now and then when the coach isn't looking and clock a 13 min.. Now I can run a mile without stopping.. Not a very large difference, but it's a huge accomplishment..

Thats what makes a top tier athlete, the will to be the best! And these guys give everything to win. Just competing simply is not enough...

      The military standard is 1 mile in 6 minutes for men and i think 10 minutes for women

      @@accentor713 to score *100%* on the armys pt test in the running section you have to run 2 miles in 13 minutes, not to mention the fact that you have to complete the situps and pushups sections both before starting the run.. Its like 70 pushups and 80 situps to get 100% in those.. So youre gonna be literally testing yourself..

      @@CJCCBoi many of the other previous servicemen/women? have stated, almost 99% of those in the military are clueless when it comes to how fast they are running.
      As a currently enlisted member of the Air Force I can say with certainty that less than 1% of the military can run a SINGLE mile in under 6 minutes, let alone 7 straight.
      I just set the base record for the 1.5 mile run at 7:22, beating the longstanding record of 8:27....the general military population unfortunately is not a place to find fast running individuals.

    At 45 went out and timed a mile. Completely out of shape. 8:45. Bout killed me. Worked on it hard for about 2-3 months, hit 5:52. PB is 5:46 in college. Pretty thrilled to break 6. Never competed in it but played soccer and hockey my whole life. Can't even imagine breaking 5 much less 4. Motorin

      @@eiyuu257 No insult taken. I was a bit surprised by it myself and that's why I threw it up here. More and.more examples are out there that you really can retain youth through fitness. Seeing these guys scoot to 4 is insane though. And inspiring. I'm guessing 5:20's for me if I really really dedicated to it. Big gains in the beginning are fun, but 5 second gains near your peak are brutal. Fun stuff

      @@157dodgers Was working out like a fiend with a bunch of buddies for almost a year. We threw in running for a few months just to help with the routine we were doing. Similiar ages. Similar 1st times and similar end times. Hills. Well, one hill for exactly 1 mile that had major increases in incline every few hundred yards. It was the hill we feel that jacked up our times so quickly. First bunch of runs we had to walk alot of it. By the 3rd month we were kickin the last 100 yards where it had an insane slope. That did it. Hit the hills peeps, for time. You'll turn into superman. :)

      Sean O I believe that you can do it. My biggest inspiration while I ran competitively was my coach who at the age of 65 was beating a majority of the people on the cross country team I was a part of and I’m sure never actually ran seriously because he was never out of breath and everyday before practice at 6 am he would have already ran 3 miles as a warmup. I really don’t believe that age factors in that much and that’s its all about what work you put in.

    I used to do a mile in 12 minutes in high school. Now my best is 7 min 42 but I really want to train to get under 6 minutes. Only thing is you gotta be able to sprint for that long to get within 6 so I can’t imagine 4 minutes

      Getting sub 6 doesn’t require anything near a sprint 😂 we warm up with 6:20s before races usually and that’s a pretty mellow pace.

      When the person in front lets their leg swing up and spikes the shin or kneecap of the person behind them the problem solves is solved very quickly and a hand to the back slightly pushing front runner will stop them from spiking you.

    My senior of HS I hit a 4:19 mile in Cape Girardeau Missouri. That was my official times PR. My fastest timed unofficial was a 4:14. At 42 I can still run a 4:56. I actually ran a 5:44 after a 8 mile run a few days ago

      Clout Booler he’s the rabbit. He runs right at a 4:00 mile pace for the first 1000m so the other Stanford guys (and everyone else in the race) know how fast they need to be moving to break 4 minutes for the last 600m.

      He is called the rabbit. In record attempts, Rabbits are used to set a record pace. They are only the pace setter. Though they seem fast, they run out of steam long before the end, usually freshmen get the call to pace the field.
