Holden had roughly about 14 body styles planned for the VE but they only ended up building 5 of them (5th gen Camaro was one). If only GM had let them do what they wanted.

The con the American GM & Ford were doing here in Australia was developing so called “sedans” but really they were the size of a 2 door coupe like in the United States, they just added rear doors for Australian market. The real sedans here were the Statesmans & Fairlanes based on the so called “wagon” chassis & plenty of room in the rear. Many back passengers over the decades would have had a better chance of survival if they were rear passengers in Statesmans & Fairlanes.
@@carswithscottyThe distortion from the wide angle lens makes it a bit difficult to really see the proportions properly too. Maybe next time try with a minimum of about 60mm or more if you can. Great looking car but, thanks for sharing 👍
Using the ute as a base with the rear wheels 100mm further back really makes the look. That shorter rear overhang looks fantastic. Really subtle and well done, but makes so much difference. Undoubtedly it helps with stability too, not that the VE platform ever really had a problem with that, but you can always make something better and this certainly is.
Holden did make a ve coupe when they did Camaro for the states I personally have the photos of the first moke up car sadly they new they where shutting up shop by then and canned it
Sorry to burst them bubbles but the the rear axle looks wrong. It needs to go forward some and adjust the rest to look proportionate. Just my 2 cents ....
I remember reading how it cost Holden tens or hundreds of millions or something to develop the VT Monaro and thinking “f*cking how? It’s just a Commodore without back doors” This proves me right. No wonder they went broke so many times
I understand that it needed the HSV tail lights to be true to theme, but I always felt they were far uglier than the VE Commodore tail lights. Especially since you can see the lines and a cover up panel of where they should have been.
Makes me a bit sad to think of what could've been. So much potential for Australian cars but the big companies just didn't follow through with the wild ideas
As a Ford guy, it must grate you to see such an excellent Commodore. There is a great AU Falcon 2 door conversation out there. I'm pretty sure I saw it on a Facebook car forum somewhere. I'm sure if you search hard enough, you'll find it

It’s a shame that GM and the GFC led to Holden essentially cancelling the VE coupe so close to production, had Holden been able to do what they wanted with the VE platform perhaps they’d still be around today
Surely there is a low volume business opportunity here, this is as good as any other resto mods out there, go all in and do a LHD version for the US perhaps 🤷🏼 bloody well done 👍
Why would you do all this to a hsv ute .. It would have been smarter to do it with an omega ute .. Especially since it's had a different engine, etc, done to it...
Don't those 1-tonne ute's have horrible leaf-spring rear suspension and live axles? Is that retained? If so, I really wouldn't want to drive it with that much (or any) power. Good looking though.
@@gerardcrabb4556 Correct but this guy made his own. And he can drive it around. The concept car never went into production. Brendan said hold my beer. He made his own.
I wish they wouldnt use so much wide angle, so that the proportions would show better. This is an amazing build although not quite as sleek as the coupe60- where the roof was lower as per the Monaro's of yore.
The glass factor I remember when the ash tray was a little window near the side mirror. Not shore if the problem with the glass is more the front or the back.
