- I know it is ugly, but some nice houses have been built from it and the scrap is worth as much as the lumber
You should see the gasifier that it runs... Check out driveonwood.com for more information.
I have seen a lot of band-saw mills on here and I do believe I like that one the BEST. I too made one and really like the one I built , but if I had seen this one with the carriage moving back and forth I would have done mine like it.....Does not look like JUNK to me,,,,,,,I LIKE IT. With a little modification I still might change mine.....Keep sawing, Looking good...thanks for the video.
Wayne,
As has been said the proof is in the pudding. This machine is cutting some really nice looking lumber. From one "Junkologist" to another "Great Job". Steve Cross aka SuperAX
Hello Steve,
Thanks for the comment . The first day of sawing pretty much paid for the mill .
what was said was 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'
@mwangolatrue
Another question : has the blade ever broken during operation ?
Another mechanical genius in overalls 👍 Sweet saw you build . Hey there to Steve (monster handsaw ) in the south from conantdog in Maine 🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜
UGLY??, who you trying to kid, then way those off bearers are snatching up each piece shows it has some real value. nothing to ba ashamed of, or apologize for in this mill.
You know, I have often wondered about that method of using a band saw. Seems to work fine. But, never trust a man with a first name as a last name. Ha. Just kidding. Whoopee
Awesome Keith. It sure ain't ugly!
Hello Mr: Wayne Keith. If You don't mind Me asking. What is the Horse Power in the bush hog gear box? Also Did You do any modification to it so that the shaft makes a good fit in it? Can You tell Us what's the Horse Power in the Benz Engine and what year is it? How many revolutions is the engine running at?
THANK YOU! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!! KUDOS From South Florida.
Hello Seal .
The old bushog gear box was from a small 5 foot cutter . The 240 D motor has about 60 hp but only using about 10-20 hp for the sawing. Just a guess on the rpm is 1500-2000 when sawing.
About 20 years and still going !!
Do you have plans for this Mr. Keith? This is awesome!
Hello Wesley
Thanks for the comment .
I have used the saw near 16-17 years now and still dong good. I sawed 16 foot material yesterday and will be sawing again Friday .
Thanks
Wayne
Does a good job to be made out of salvaged parts. A little slow but it gets the job done.
True cutter. That lumber could be used for anything including paneling. Fine job and a lot of common sense went into that. You get an A-PLUS from me!
What more does anyone want. Its doing a fine job of cutting. Looks like a good machine to me. Like it!
What size blades? Length/width/pitch etc.
Hello Dale ..
Blade length 13 ' - 1 ''
width 1-1/4 ''
thickness .o42''
tooth spacing 7/8 ''
I buy from Cooks saw works Newton Alabama
Thanks
Building my own and try to decide just how big to make it. Yours seems to be a good size
Isn't it dangerous ?
In case of failure the blade would be thrown in the air and could injure someone badly, maybe a guard on the superior part would be welcome and cheap for peace of mind.
What you have done here is really quite amazing! I appreciate the video. Any you run this on a gasifier? That's really what makes this so amazing. Really good work. I am envious.
Hey love it, sturdy with the railroad track and wheels - excellent job - the working mechanisms for hand control are something else. Farmer running it is grade A. You can just tell.
With your saw carage that moves it has those wood mixers beat hands down and it saws a lot smoother and you don’t have to walk through the saw dust like the wood mixers. Awesome job you have done building your saw mill. It is not painful watching you run it. You don’t have to sweep the saw dust of of each board or pour water on each board to look at the grain.
Hi Mr Keith
I subscribe to your drive on wood site and love it. Just happened on to your video trying to design myself a saw mill. Wanted to see every design I can find before starting one. I would say you have a good looking mill and it seems to be more thought out than most. Looks like you have most of the bugs worked out and added a few features over time. This is the kind of stuff I like to see, tried and true don't look ugly to me. Thanks.
Great job with the mill. I am considering building a mill so I can save on the raw material costs of building a cabin. Nothing as fancy as what you have here. Keep up the great work. Love the video.
Great job, thanx
@tanker0wns1
Sorry , Should have been ( scrap )
I fuel my trucks with wood scrap.
Nothing ugly about that!
It's amazing the amount of machines that can be built from old car/truck parts.
Very Impressive. It would be awesome if you would make a video of how this is put together. Does the cart just return by gravity? Or is there some sort of spring/tension system attached to it (like a garage door)?
Wayne,do you have any how to plans on all the sections of your mill that would help someone to build their own sawmill? Thanks for your reply, Stan
Just found this , using creativity to the fullest , thats great i may build a little mill like this myself. [ keep on sawing ]
Genious! Mr. Keith, I need to ride over there from Mississippi and get me some serious mojo just standing around YOU!
the 4 cyl benz diesel is such a work horse. That thing will run for a long time. nice job
could you do a walk around video of your saw explaining how it works especially how it goes up and down ,locks in place it looks to me that it works better than most, I'd like to know more
+Kyle Boettcher
Hello Kyle .
I haven't forgot about you .Been snowed under .
I under stand
Nice set up.
Makes sense.
What is the danger zone in your experience operating this one ?
Thanks for taking the time to show us your creations and thanks to your camera lady also
I’ve been saving scrap for years to build a sawmill. Going to start soon. How do you like or recommend the tires for drive wheels? Do you have much trouble with them wearing out fast?
About 20 years of use and changed tires once . Can't remember if cut or leaking but not from being worn .
Is that 16 years worth of sawdust sitting there? :P
MrFakit
Looks like about half day of saw dust .
FANTÁSTICO! MAGNÍFICO ...PARABÉNS!
how many guys it take to trow a 1x8 onto a trailer??nice machine ;)
the way that thing cuts its gotta be powered by woodgas. love it.
I see people make bad post about other people things and it is because they don't have one or able to build one,,,,,,you have done a good job, mine to is built from things I had around here. as soon as I figure out how to send you a picture I will send one of what I have built......all hydraulic with 40 hp vw engine on it, 1 1/2 x 7/8 x 19 foot blade....runs good and cuts on the money. I like yours..What state are you in??
+wesleygarden1
I am near Springville AL
Hey could you do a walk around video of your mill very interested in building one similar.
If it made you a SPAMMER then it must be BS. Try again little man!
Waynekeith, You got a new subscriber just for wearing Liberty overalls! Great saw!
Always impressed by this man.
That's amazing!! You sir are a genius!!
Great saw! Someone else asked and I don't see that you answered so I will back him up. Do you have plans available for your saw.
Pete Peterson
Hello Mr. Peterson.
Sorry , no plans on the mill . It was designed mostly around junk items that were laying around the farm . Has been running good after 16 years .
My efforts have been plans on gasified vehicles ( trucks , tractors etc. ) Search ( HAVE WOOD WILL TRAVEL )
Thanks
Wayne
May look like junk. But dam it works good
I like it what are you using to return the carriage
Hello George
The carriage is powered by a small hydraulic motor .
Sure are some clever people in this world.
so cool, are those railroad tracks?
im so jelous ..
What is the maximum diameter log you can cut on this mill? Thanks for reply!
Hello John ,
I had sawed 30 inch and above but much rather saw 28 or less.
your going way to fast!!!
EXCELLENT work.
pretty slick,
Can you do a video on the operation of the mill how it works what you use to make it run how do you measure ect thanks.
Hello Marc.
Here is a couple videos showing some detail.

Beeeeaaautifull!!!
nice more
wicked saw mill !
how dose the troll work, how do you reverse it back and forth
Hydraulic valve and small hydraulic motor. You can see me working the control with my right hand about shoulder high .
Hello Mr. Keith! My father and I are going to build a sawmill very similar to this later this spring, we are going to use an old 235 chevy 6cylinder. could you make a video of a detailed walk through of the engine and transmission hookup? and the winch underneath the carriage? I could sure use a good visual idea of what you got going on. what type of engine/transmission is that? does it have a pto? what all is hydraulic? thanks again! - John Gibbons from Alabama
+MrHickerbilly
Hello MrHickerbilly.
I made videos for you today . Will try to get them uploaded in a day or so.
Thanks
Wayne
+Wayne Keith
Hello MrHickerbilly
Hope you can make heads and tails of these video.
I put in full days with the mill today and yesterday .

ruclips.net/video/SfYb6Dd5J58/видео.html
I failed to mention the chain that raises the saw head is 5/8 inch pitch .
thank you!!
Dl
Wayne did you make your own saw sharpener?
Hello Marc.
I sharpen the blade while on the mill . 3/8 variable speed drill motor with 1/4 inch grid rock.
About a 10 minute job.
What drives the carriage?
Hello Kyle ,
The carriage is driven by a light duty hydraulic winch ( seen at the beginning of the video, center of the saw mill under the carriage ) . The winch pulls 1/8 inch cable through pulleys to drive the carriage back and forth.
The lever he pulls operates a hydraulic valve?
Yes , The lever at shoulder height controls the direction and speed of the small hydraulic motor .
I would like to build one,I have looked at a lot, your looks to me that it works much faster than the rest, looks like a right angle gear box off of a mower driving the blade.
Yes , the gear box is from a junk 5 foot bushog . One rev in = two revs out.
17 years and still going .
originally powered with farm tractor pto
doesn't matter what it looks like wayne as long as it works! could you describe how it operates? maybe make a video on how the carriage works the up and down of the blade and what the handles do that your operating? a good video to watch is homemade twin blade sawmill on youtube it is out of newzeiland
Hello Mr. Gagnon.
Here are a couple of videos trying to show details . At the time I had lost the top but now I have a top and structure on it and sawing daily ( including today ) .
