When Joseph agrees to bury Jacob in Canaan, Jacob bows to him in relief - why? What was Jacob worried about? In this video, the last of the book of Genesis, Rabbi Fohrman explores Joseph's tension between his commitments to Jacob and Pharaoh, and the meaning of his choice to bury Jacob in Canaan.

...They robbed my parents in 2015, I can't find them...They took me a few times, but I always made it back, to help my family....They terrorise this area daily, police may be involved... I have had about a hundred people, with the police, meeting on the side of my home, in 1993 about, several times, trying to discuss the troubles in this area..Yet, its still crazy around here.... I have been here since 1969...My fifteen year old sister is missing as well, since 1983...I survived a horrible car accident when I was nine...This share you gave, shows how evil people can get, yet how good people can endure deadly schemes....

Thorns seem to be a huge deal in the Torah. The lamb that was caught in the thorns during the Akeidah. Tagin in the Torah scroll which are described as thorns. The crowns that cover the casket of Yaacov.

The crown hangs on the head of the king. Joseph did not seek his own honor by wearing the crown. Instead he gave it to his Father. This reminds me of Abraham building an altar after HaShem, blessed is He, said He would make Abraham’s name great. In essence, Jacob was the king and Joseph was his servant. At the death of the king, the nations descended from Shem and Ham witnessed the crown of thorns and bowed their knee at the humility of Joseph. How much more so Messiah Ben Yosef, Yeshua HaNotzri! The question remains, why weren’t descendants of Japheth present to witness this?

Thank you for this impressing visualisation of Joseph's golden crown encirclued by the Atad thorns.
For Joseph's real Father let's read in Moses blessing: Deut 33,16
This leads to Joseph's crown as we read in Ps 132,18
There could be an alusion to Joseph in the Tehillim of Shlomo 72,16-17
Threshing floor reminds me of Morijah in Gen 22 and 1Chron 21,15-28 and 2Chron 3.1

Thank you for this, but it felt like more was needed. Why was Josef right to "claw " his way bach into his family? It was quite dysfunctional and had a lot of what appears to be, frankly, evil. Prominent examples include, of course, the brothers kidnap and sale of Josef and Jacob's decades long mistreatment of leah, which led to the brothers attack on josef. Should jacob have apologized to the family on his deathbed rather than condemning Reuven, Shimon and Levi? Shabbat shalom.

    Interesting.
Could it be Jacob, was fulfilling Joseph’s dream?
Who bowed down to him in his dreams?

So much emphasis on to the funerals... Jacob's prophecies and the glimpses of the Messiah Times are not less important... It would be very interesting to learn how some of our Forefather Israel parables can be interpreted...

It was more than 17 years since he saw Yosef. Yosef was 17 when he was sold, he was 30 when he interpreted Pharaoh's dream. 7 years of plenty, Yosef was 37 at the end of the 7 years of plenty. 3 years into the famine his brothers show up, Yosef was 40 years old. It was 23 years since his father Yaaqob had seen Yosef.

Interesting this Midrash keeps referring ‘they were good Jews?!. Yaakov was ISRAEL, Yoseph was not Judah? He was just YOCEPH an Israelite, Yaakov’s son. Confusing when you say Jews, they were Israelites - 12 tribes and he was just one of the sons.

You are combing EAST and WEST thinking...with a strong slant to churchianity....the teacher is a WISE and correct teacher indeed. Sit and listen in a while - see if you can discern SCRIPTURE vs churchianity thoughts and mans ideas. This channel is a BLESSING...and their private website is even more berakat

All Jews (from the tribe of Judah) are Israelites (descendants of Jacob), but not all Israelites are Jews. All Israelites are Hebrew (descendants of Abraham). The tribe of Judah absorbed the remnants of the other tribes much later in history, and Hebrews were collectively referred to as Jews. This is historically inaccurate.

The word Jew began to be used for all the children of Israel regardless of tribe, sometime before the book of Esther was written. Mordecai the Benjamite was called a Jew, and the Israelites are collectively called "the Jews" throughout the book of Esther.
