  • This company has a contract with a local garbage company to transport garbage from their transfer station in Mobile Alabama to the landfill, located in Brewton Alabama. We also haul sometimes from other transfer station locations, like the one featured in this video. The transfer station shown in this video is located in Andalusia Alabama.
    A transfer station is where the neighborhood garbage trucks (And roll off trucks and such) literally unload their trucks into a building and the trash then gets scooped up by a large front end loader and loaded into specialty semi truck trailers and picked up by us, and pulled to the landfill and emptied then brought back to be reloaded.
    We haul 2-3 loads per day depending on volume and other circumstances. This video gives a decent idea of what this run entails.

    i just started a job like this my trailer has walking floor its cool I do two loads a day love it

      When I was on the garbage run, I generally did two loads also. Most days I would run one from Mobile Alabama then deadhead to Fort Walton Beach Florida and bring one back from there then deadhead back home. I don’t think this company ever had any walking floor trailers. I believe they use these trailers and a tipper instead, for less trailer maintenance/repair.
      I still drive for the same company, but pull two loads in a dump trailer on a dedicated metal run now.

      @@LifewithJames I tell you I came from a 62 mph truck to 80 mph truck I love driving now. but I have to get use to the heavy loads I average 75k a trailer. before this job I pulled van trailers full of auto parts very lite loads

    • @LifewithJames
      @LifewithJames  2 года назад +2

      The garbage trailers are definitely heavier than the others I’ve pulled. If we ran on non interstates, we could run higher than 80k. I’ve pulled an 84,000 out of Florida that I recall for sure. I could feel the extra weight on the heavier loads when accelerating, but never noticed any issues when trying to slow them down. If the landfill was muddy though, you would have a nightmare trying to get up top and onto the tipper. The extra weight would sink you a lot quicker. I got sunk all the way to the bottom of my fuel tank in mud one time

      I’ve never ran that far with over 80. I’ve ran around 84k on backroads out of Florida for about 1.5 hours to alabama but we were legal with the equipment and paperwork. I’m hauling containers currently and I’ve crossed Florida scales at 87,900 but had an overweight permit. Still was a little un-nerving though. I’ve hauled heavier but I’d prefer to be scarce with detail.

      I’m a company driver so I don’t know the details very well, but we have a contract with the particular garbage company that owns the landfill and we haul from their transfer station using our trucks and trailers and deliver it to their landfill.
      If you have the equipment, the best advice I can give would be to contact some of the local garbage companies and put your name out there and see what they say.

      @@LifewithJames bet. So my best bet would be to call the local transfer stations and see if they need trucks

    • @LifewithJames
      @LifewithJames  2 года назад

      @@allofasuttontrucking1540 I believe so. The company we work for owns the trailers and they keep them parked at the transfer station and the garbage company loads them at the end of the day and we go over and hook to them and haul them up loaded then bring them back empty and drop them. We swap to a loaded trailer and while we are headed to unload that one, they use a yard truck to hook to the empty and load it so that it’s ready to be taken when we get back, that way we can keep moving all day until the landfill closes up.

    What do you suggest is the best semi for that type of hauling and that terrain daily?

    • @LifewithJames
      @LifewithJames  Год назад +3

      No particular brand, but definitely need a daycab & something with good locking differentials. Also make sure you have a very strong front recovery point because we do on occasion get really stuck and the bulldozer has to cable up to us and pull us out of a soft spot or pull us up the hill when it’s muddy because we start spinning and lose forward movement about 1/2-3/4 of the way up when it’s really wet.

    • @LifewithJames

    • @LifewithJames
      @LifewithJames  2 года назад

      The average gross weight would end up being right around 80,000LB. Depending on the transfer station we are coming from, we can run heavier. If staying on non interstates we can run over 80,000 gross weight and remain legal.

I can ask him how someone would go about getting their foot in the door with garbage haul.
