And the envelopes, please.... (drum roll)... And the award for the best actor/actress for the entirety of all RUclips videos ever created for 2023 goes to.... (envelope is opened)... YOUR WIFE! For the monster in the house sketch. BRAVO! And the best "makeup" or special effects from all the millions of RUclips videos in 2023 goes to... YOUR HAIR in the Lauten LS 208 "waking up from bed" sketch. Again, well done! And finally, the award for the best Human Gas Emissions for all 2023 RUclips videos goes to... (envelope is opened)... "The Guy In The Kitchen Confronting Himself" sketch. Beautiful long drawn-out emission on that one! Bravo. Seriously, I want to thank you for a year of great pleasure and knowledge from you channel. I bought a bunch of things just based on your videos and reviews; such as the LS-208 and Krotos Studio (which I can now not live without), among others. I look forward to a new year of your great entertaining, creative and informative work! (And more farts, please)

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh man! You made Bridget and my day! Haha. We were laughing and laughing! She’s never acted before and she was so touched by that awesome comment! Thanks so much, man! You’re a fellow who shares my exact sense of humor. Haha. Always so great to read your hilarious comments!
      More farts incoming!
Here’s an unknown Fart Easter Egg just for you:
About five summers ago, was particularly gassy. I set up a shotgun mic at about butt-height and then had my DAW open and armed for the duration of the evening. I collected many farts that night, my friend. And I have them in my personal library where I use various collected “bursts” for particular needed uses. So, what I’m saying is, with the exception of that long fart in the “guy in the kitchen confronting himself”, all the farts are real farts I collected years ago. Hahahahaha.
And I secretly admitted that in my How to Record Digital Audio: A Beginners Guide Video: ruclips.net/video/j13Vl2hpZQg/видео.htmlsi=wUfJKIVC9dCOlnoD
If you go to that video and pause it at around 24 minutes and 58 seconds, you’ll see the title of the session I have open in Studio One is called THOSE VIDEOS HAD REAL FARTS.
Hahahahahahahahah. Cheers, man! And Happy New Year!

It happens very seldom that I accidentally get to a youtube channel… and I immediately like. How is it possible that all your videos sound that amazingly good, despite the mic? Yes, some sound extraordinarily good, but all are outstanding. And I have been listening lately, in my absurd persuit of the “perfect” mic (that is what all ignorant amateurs try at first 😅) , almost all the big channels there… but none has the constant quality of this. And I didn’t understand until I heard that a) you are a professional in audio b) your philosophy choosing the gear you want to review and the type of companies you like to work with.
Big big fan and hopefully soon afíliate buyer! Prosperous 2024 from Basque Country

Hey thanks so much! What an amazing compliment! I sure do appreciate you stopping to comment here!
Yes, I’ve been a professional in audio in one form or another for over 30 years. But I’m really just some guy. Haha.
While I generally do try to choose what I review, this is not always the case. Sometimes I’m offered gear to review that I think might help my viewers (usually low cost products), and I agree to do them - even though they might suck. Haha.
Through my personal understanding of audio, I employ some strategies to make sure I sound the best I can. They include:
-A treated room (sound dampened with moving blankets all around me and above me.
-I use a couple of acoustic tiles on the tabletop so I minimize unwanted reflections and comb filtering.
-99% of the time I’m recording through the Sound Devices MixPre 6 II recorder, which not only has insanely good preamps, but also world class analog to digital converters.
-I target -14 Integrated LUFS when exporting from Davinci Resolve so that RUclips doesn’t artificially inflate or reduce the volume (perceived loudness).
With the exception of using a limiter to catch stray peaks, I do not process any of the audio when I’m reviewing microphone. That’s raw.
Perhaps I’ll do a video on how I get my sound. I hear that a lot from viewers.
I hope this has helped a little to show how I do it. I don’t mind sharing my recipes! Haha.
It’s nice to be talking to North Spain!
Thank you so much again! And I look forward to seeing you again! Cheers from South Canada! 🇨🇦

Excellent breakdown of the year! I used to listen to Microphone Assassin, however, after I was on his discord server, I didn't like listening to some of the thin-skinned responses to criticism so I decided to move on from it (I'm prior military and have a very thickskin, but don't put up with people who can't handle valid unadulterated feedback that is NOT ad hominem in nature). Your channel is excellent and you can obviously handle criticism well. Mark's response and other users' thin-skinned responses in his Discord Server did it for me. Rather than continue worrying about walking on eggshells around folks that can't handle critique (and Mark's reaction) and since it was Mark's Discord Server and his house rules, I deleted all my responses and moved on. HOWEVER, Mark does have an outstanding RUclips channel like yours with excellent reviews for products that he uses and reviews.
Keep it up and I look forward to more excellent reviews and entertainment this year from the The Time Preservation Society! T2PS Rocks! Indeed.

I haven’t seen hide nor hair of Mark in a really long time. I wonder where he went. I know he stopped making RUclips videos for now, but I haven’t seen him talking even on his Discord channel. He sure does know his stuff and makes amazing builds!
Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments! I think I do have thick skin… on top of my thick everything else. Hahaha.
I’m trying to get my own Discord channel up and running but it’s hard since I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing and also do this whole channel by myself and some bright ideas take a hell of a lot of work to pull off!
Thank you again for the wonderful compliments! I look forward to more comments from you, Thomas!

Couldn’t agree more with your approach. It’s one reason I love this channel, as other RUclipsrs man you don’t have enough fingers and toes on how many times they say the product name through a 10 min Video :-) your honesty, humour and knowledge will keep me viewing this channel for as long as I’m breathing and this channel exists !! I’m also saving for the Atlantis as man I want that Mic :-) Happy New Year Mr Williams …

@@TheRecordist I have an SM7B for my Podcast, I have the Oktava for RUclips videos and a c414 for vocals. I’m thinking to just get the Atlantis and have one for all as I’m kinda getting a bit more sensible to use minimal kit for maximum output. I have one last question for you. What lens did you use for the wide shots in your video on the bench meditating :-)?? Was it a 24mm with black bars added or was it an actual Anamorphic lens and if so which one? Thanks !!!

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  6 месяцев назад

@@paulg3388 one mic to rule them all! Haha. Sounds like a plan!
Are you talking about the intro for the Lauten Audio LA-320 Tube Mic? Where I shot myself on a couple of park benches? Haha.
      Here’s the lowdown:
-Canon M50 8 Bit entry level camera (that was before I upgraded to the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K)
-Canon 22mm pancake lens (the 1.6 crop on the APSC sensor on the M50 makes the 22mm an even 35mm lens - so full-frame equivalent to 35mm.
-24fps, 1/50 shutter, Urth Variable Neutral Density Filter
-2:39 black bars added in post.
-Holy Grain film grain overlay added in post (that was before I got Dehancer)
-no post color correction (because 8 bit non-raw/log images tend to fall apart when you do that)
So basically, I just mimicked the anamorphic look (sans the oval bokeh)
      Hope that helps! Cheers!

Field recording is an active interest of mine so, naturally, I love your channel. Thank you for the efforts you put into producing these fine videos.
I've been watching your subscriber and viewership numbers for many months now, and I am continually amazed at how you are able to keep those numbers so low! And this, despite such useful and entertaining content, and excellent production value too. Your ability to keep your channel so nearly invisible is no doubt attributable to sleuthing skills you developed during your crime fighting days. I'm proud to be among this channel's subscribers.

Why thank you, kind sir! I do my best! Hahaha.
Actually, I’ve never spent a cent on marketing or advertising. For 2 years I just do the same thing I did when I started. I just make videos and upload them. That means the almost 6000 current subscribers are full-on organic. How do other people get bigger? I have no idea. I just know audio and video stuff and I like making my stupid ideas come to life.
But I will say this: the subscribers I DO have are all awesome people, like you, who are extremely supportive and always brighten my day. I suppose I would take that offer quantity any day of the week!
Thanks so much for giving me a laugh and making my day! Cheers!

As for Geofón recording underwater sounds, I wouldn’t risk putting it underwater. A hydrophone is what you’re after. Jez Riley French hand makes hydrophones that are a great price, if you’re in the market.

It's difficult to decide if the best part of the channel is all the creativity or the information about so many mics we didn't even know were out there. However, the common denominator is you. @@TheRecordist - This is awesome. It also illustrates how much of an old fart I am. I use none of these services, but I will figure out RUclips Music. I miss going to my local record store and picking up the 45. The store I went to in the 70's and 80's was The Sound of Music, so aptly named. Thank you for making the tunes available. My Son-inlaw is a Music Professor and professional Trumpet player, and he is learning about sound recording. He will love these songs too.
Now I buy used albums at a flea market. The new releases of old albums, with "Digital Remastering" have had the volume levels of all the instruments cranked up to make the songs louder, destroying the artistry of the songs with instruments being at differing levels to create the original sound. There's a very interesting video on RUclips about that, demonstrating the difference.
