Thank you so much for sharing your struggle. When I was younger I had no idea that black women lose hair as they get older. You have enlightened me and I think those naturals that do their own hair go through this more often than we want to admit. Thank you so much for being so transparent!

I used 2% minoxidil with great results...until i went to specialist and he said, "Use men's 5%." I bought mine at the local Walmart generic for about $20.00 for a 3 month supply. I also have Lichen Planus and the 5% messed with my skin on my head. I had to stop using it. The Hair, Skin and Nails (Biotin) gummies- I had to throw away. It made my Blood pressure skyrocket. And I didn't have a problem with high BP before. I am currently not on any meds (daily vitamin only) but still using Red Light Therapy. My scalp is not breaking out due to LP🎉,my hair has currently stop falling out 🎉and some small hairs are starting to grow back in the bare or near bare spots🎉. I used Rosemary oil. I like it and started making it myself. I have never tried pumpkin seed oil. Who knows I may try it. Prayer always works. God bless you! You are beautiful!

This is when we have to be our own advocates. The “I don’t know” from this doctor is very troubling. Go from your mom’s experience because the dermatologist I saw told me these changes can be hereditary. I agree that they should check your hormone levels to see if there is fluctuation that could be the cause. All the best, sending positive energy to you. Please continue to keep us updated if you can. 🙏🏾

@@NaturalMe4C If the doctor is dismissive you should try visiting a trichologist and naturopath. They will likely encourage supplements. Does your derm specialize in hair loss? If not, you may want to find someone else. Also, if you can get a copy of the lab results, maybe you can bring it for the review of these professionals so that you don’t have to provide another sample.
There is a treatment called low-level light therapy, you can buy the device and use it at home.

Some diseases are hard to diagnose in the beginning( chronic telogen effluvium, early stafe of androgenetic alopecia)… with time the answer will come. Until she is sure that u have AA, is best not to use blockers, and no, checking your hormones levels wont help( there is difference between the hormone levels in your blood n your skin). Oral minoxidil works amazing for hair growth… You can also try microneedling or microinfusion in your scalp. Dont use a lot of different methods at the same time, because you wont know what is actually working… it’s hard but patience is your best ally. ❤ God bless

Please seek a natural path. They will do extensive bloodwork. Western docs were very dismissive for years, denying bloodwork I requested, until I started asking them to chart their denials. Then I would get a referral. I finally fired them all and went holistic and found out after the first visit/bloodwork, I have several chronic illnesses and infections(2 of my diseases I was positive for are specific test I requested) that I have been herbally treating for 2 years now. Also, they kept telling me my hormone levels were not menopause levels due to my age and second opinions from 2 other doctors, said I was in menopause and had been for a couple years smh. Oh and through food sensitivity testing, I found that some of my favorite foods were causing me harm, although they are considered "healthy". I had to stop eating them and working on gut health still...No gluten, sugar, dairy. So what put in our bodies can cause alot of our issues...Even hair loss/thinning. Please seek a natural doc. They will listen to you.

I will say this though-estrogen WILL continue to drop! As it drops bones will become frail, and muscle will atrophy. This is just the science. Please do your research. HRT becomes valuable if you want to age gracefully! Black women are not getting all the information on this and we suffer the most! It’s not just a hair issue! This symptoms add up to something in the end when our cycles stop. Estrogen has a cardio protective effect when it’s low…if heart disease , dementia, or osteoporosis runs in your family you will become at risk! However don’t just take my word…please go ahead and research this information for yourself. ❤

I was diagnosed with CCCA (early scarring alopecia), with a dash of hormonal hair loss - ugh. I'm in remission now but have had a couple of setbacks along the way. I've been taking it for a while so I'm not sure how to directly connect regrowth completely or solely to using it. However, I have been using for a while so maybe it's keeping even more major loss at bay? It's such an up and down process.

  • @alyshalight9762
    @alyshalight9762 9 месяцев назад +3

Sis, please stay encouraged! I was diagnosed with CCCA in 2020 and it's been a devastating, overwhelming, and at times, LONELY AS HELL journey. I have experienced the same gaslighting and diminishing of my concerns with doctors. They are also TERRIBLE at helping you put the pieces of the puzzle together which is probably because they never learned that in med school which is kinda strange. Anyway, I started seeing a functional doctor through Parsley Health, which has been helpful bc a functional doctor will run ALL THE TESTS and try to find the root cause .
I'm obviously not a doctor, but some of the things you listed as issues you're facing, you can resolve naturally: for instance, for blood pressure -- look at garlic supplements and olive leaf exact. Hibiscus tea also lowers blood pressure. Of all the things I've tried, the one that worked the best for me was either a) replacing breakfast with a fresh green juice (chlorophyll has all the antioxidants that will lower blood pressure AND keep your gut happy); or b) beetroot powder. Beetroot is amazing for lowering blood pressure, AND it opens up your blood vessels which can help with hair regrowth. You could easily replace a prescription with either of these.
There are also a number of food-based iron supplements you can take to correct your iron levels if they are low. Megafood is a good brand but there are plenty of others.
Also, a great probiotic will do wonders for your gut and is important if you've been on antibiotics. Look at soil-based probiotics + those that help with overall immune support.
Lastly, while the biopsy may not have shown 'inflammation' in your scalp -- the fact that you have allergies, gut issues, hormonal imbalances, and hair loss means you DO have inflammation in your body. Everything starts with your gut. Look at auto-immune protocols and autoimmune diets that help reverse a lot of what you mentioned and can help you get to a place of balance. Salud!

Hi Chris! Speaking from experience, topical minoxidil does work, however, talk to your doctor about topical minoxidil and finasteride combination. That combination works better than minoxidil alone. Also speak to your doctor about oral finasteride (5 mg) a strong DHT blocker, which is specifically for androgenetic alopecia. Finasteride won’t mess with your blood pressure. There’s also oral dutasteride, a stronger DHT blocker. I’m surprised your doctor said a DHT blocker may not help! The research I’ve done and my doctor say the opposite! Nutrafol also helps, as it thickens your hair and decreases shedding! I’ve been on it for a year, and my hair is doing better. Hope this helps! ❤❤

I have hair thinning if the front and sides of my head. I am so depressed about it. I used to have full thick hair and not it is so thin, I can see my scalp in the front. Ironically, the back of my hair is still full, so I can totally relate to men who have that " U " shape of hair around their ears and the back of their heads. It is no where near that yet for me, but heading in that direction. I have some health issues dealing with diabetes and rosai-dorfman disease. I just finished a round of Prednisone, so not sure if that has contributed since the thinning has been consistent over the last 3-4 months. I have been post-menstrual for at least 15 years (early) and have had a hysterectomy over 20 years ago. I hate this and am not a wig wearer. See how long my hair was in my profile picture, well it is NOTHING like that now as this is an old picture. Anyway....still praying for you Kriss and wish you all the best. ♥

Have your Thyroid levels checked as well. The blood pressure medicine will cause hair thinning, which can be a gradual process. Some vitamin deficiences can cause hair loss as well.As a nurse of 32 years some physicians overlook some vital lab test. A low TSH Level mimics symptoms of menopause an overactive thyroid Hyperthyroidism can elevate blood pressure cause brittle hair prominent eyes etc, and Hypothyroidism is the opposite. You did not mention any other symptoms, so check with your Primary Care Physician and voice your concerns if you haven't already. I am all for natural supplementation, there are some natural supplements that can help with hair loss that will not interact with your medication. Sending positive and blessed vibes your way! Sorry if the response was long, I am hoping that this information is beneficial for all who may not be aware.

I appreciate your frustration, it appears that they haven't really committed to a diagnosis (suggested the one it's highly likely to be). I noticed that the symptoms for perimenopause, iron deficiency, anemia, Thyroid issues are all very similar.
Did you get your iron/ ferritin levels confirmed. As you previously mentioned, you experience heavy periods. If your ferritin levels drop below 100ng, it can result in thinning hair and weak, brittle nails.
I am very cautious about taking pharmaceutical medications, oftentimes, the side effects can end up being worse than the original symptoms. My philosophy is to try to establish the original cause of my illness. Where possible correct it. I have personally discovered that, my illness is often diet related (foods to be eliminated( processed, sugar, diary etc) or nutritional deficiency)

Have you tried the derma pen? I read that it's a mini/at-home "version" of PRP treatment as it uses super tiny needles at far more shallow depths. Some docs say they believe the insertion of the needles may be what triggers the hair growth, more so than the serums used along with the treatment... or in the cases of the PRP treatment, the blood that they inject into the scalp. So, I purchased a derma pen (not the roller!) and am working myself up to using it. Once a month is recommended. Twice a month is the max. THANK YOU, for sharing your experience.

I want to suggest you see a different doctor to get another opinion on a treatment plan. It may require another biopsy to get their diagnosis though 🙈.
I’m on an oral minoxidil and prescription mixture of liquid minoxidil and generic latisse (sp?). Minoxidil was a very last resort after a decade of seeing different dermatologist.
If you can afford it, I suggest PRP first. Minoxidil is a last resort and is a forever thing if hairloss is not caused by temporary things. It will cause hair growth EVERYWHERE. I was turning into an animal on my face. Lol. I get laser hair removal on my entire face, neck and hair. That’s an another expense but it is worth it for me.

Docs don't know everything, and sometimes they make it up as they go. Seriously, a dermatologist wrote me 5 prescrips, with no regard to the damage they could create, told me to find myself a support group, and sent me on my way. Two of the prescrips dropped my HBP so low, that headache and dizziness set in. I'd done research and was aware that discontinuing them results in all hair growth being lost anyway. I stopped those two immediately. I still use the shampoo & topical solution, but being steroidal limits their use. Have added diy teas, herbs and alernate regular shampoos, conditioners and masks. Get your anemia under control. Pray, try to eat right, sleep, keep your body moving, and stay hydrated. God has the final say! Be Blessed!

I believe I have the same condition. It’s just then around the edges and at the very edges on each side the hair grows 4 inches and stops. When it starts to grow, a few weeks in my edges feel tight and slightly irritated. Not sore, just like they’re getting ready to fall out. I end up shedding some, then it stops. It’s been the same cycle for about 4 years now. I just gave up on my edges at my temples and at my sides in front of my ear. I didn’t have the problem until I started wearing braids. She was so careful not to braid too tight as my edges have always been tantrumie. Unfortunately it doesn’t take much tension. I can wear my hair up like yours is now and in 2-3 days the edges are screaming. The rest of my hair is thriving. Growing so long I’m tempted to cut it. It’s about bra strap length. It was waist length and I big chopped 3/2020. Crazy that it’s grown so much. Just those crappy edges. 😩

I felt compelled to add a comment as I feel your frustration. I ran across your video as an autoplay it just came on .I
too have androgenic alopecia, which has been exacerbated by my recent postpartum hair loss. My androgen alopecia is caused by my PCOS. It is a hormonal induced hair loss. I do believe I’ve always had androgen alopecia. But I ignored it, so what causes androgenic alopecia. It is caused by testosterone, believe it or not ovaries produce testosterone two ways that testosterone can cause alopecia is either you have too high of a testosterone, or you have follicles are sensitive to normal levels of testosterone and that’s why DHT is an important factor in androgenic alopecia, blocking DHT is key. I have tried it all and when it started happening I really threw the kitchen sink at it. I have seen what has helped I really did not want to remain on pharmaceutical all my life so I decided to go with the use of holistic supplements, I disagree with the fact that you had said that doctors do not want to here about supplements, the fact of the matter is that there is no evidence based clinical trials to support the use of several supplements in hair loss treatments. A lot of the evidence behind supplements, are mostly what we call antidotal or observational. I think the one that has had some evidence is Rosemary oil, so going to a doctor and ask them about supplement without a lot of evidence makes them hesitant to truly recommend them, and if it doesn’t work, then you’re back to the doctor and telling them well it didn’t work and so doctors tend to stick with things that have the most evidence at this time.
so what about I tried is minoxidil but I don’t think I convert minoxidil to the active drug. I tried this for six months but minoxidil has to be converted to the active drug and 2% of the population are unable to converted it to active drug I am one of them.
I tried nutrafol and vivascal but it did work for the first year but it stopped working. I’ve tried it off and on it does help increase the density of your hair. I’ve tried spironolactone. I had some side effects with it. I’ve tried metformin so all this medication, particularly spironolactone and metformin to reduce insulin resistance in the ovaries because there’s also can be seen with PCOS . I did use birth control for a while doe hormones balance, but I end of the day I think birth controls tend to just mask a lot of things and it didn’t really help with regulated my menstruation, so I stopped it so I think the first step is truly make sure your hormonal balance where it needs to be. l what do I currently use so there has been some data using so saw palmetto and needle leaf extract that has been some data on pumpkin seed oil and reducing DHT .Natural DHT blockers I also use this with use some stem cell peptide as well with micro needling so I think this is what has help but you have to give this anywhere from one to two years.
Nutrition is so important fixing any deficiencies, particularly iron. Your ferritin level has to be above 50 vitamin D, zinc so important in hair loss.
Getting enough proteins I mean no acids at the building blocks of any protein, including Hair so making sure your nutrition has enough protein is so important in HAIR LOSS so make sure you’re getting all labs to make sure that all the vitamin deficiencies are corrected for one was so iron deficiency for so many years I think the deficiency contributed contributed to my Grain and hell that was to get fixed I would say that your body does not care about your hair if your nutritional deficient your body reroute a lot of the nutrition to organs like your heart your brain, your intestinal, so there’s really not enough for your hair the end of the day that’s why getting the right type of nutrition is so important.
This is a chronic condition so you will have to continue to manage your hair with something it doesn’t go away unfortunately unless someone figures out why ovaries create this hormonal imbalance, but I think the biggest advocate for yourself is education. I am in the healthcare field and that’s I have the access to research to look at data and see what works there’s so much out there you can start with listening to the podcast. There’s so many podcast and that talk about hair loss and listening to the leaders will help you perhaps understand and educate yourself as healthcare providers we don’t know everything but is our job to educate ourselves and through education you can advocate better, I don’t think your provider was wrong in telling you what she had available to you but you do have to decide what will walk with your lifestyle in the long run because this condition is a long and chronic and it really never goes away so I hope this helps from someone who also suffers from the same condition

The derm took me off. I had total regrowth. Sadly, it didn’t stay after I was off. You are so right about new issues. The steroid shots made me super sensitive to steroids. Now I have chronic migraines and I get migraines if I even use a topical steroid. The Spirolactone made me gain 12 lbs in a month. There has to be a better way!!! Tapered cuts were my life saver until alopecia started affecting the top. Oh well it is what it is.

They only care about prescription meds because it makes them money. Diagnosed with the same thing years ago and last year just developed this itch on the top of my head that will not stop. I took and anti-inflammatory and used a topical. The itch is still quite persistent. At this point it does not even feel like an itch any more. It may have something to do with nerves. I am very careful about medications, I refuse to be one of the people that takes 20 different meds a day. Good luck with your treatments.

Thank you! Right now I'm all in on the Cliganic organic pumpkin seed oil lol. I was using rosemary oil for like a year or something straight in my cleansers but it seemed to stop working as well so I figured why not try something else... I may add essential oils like rosemary, peppermint, cedarwood atlas, tea tree back in though if I don't feel like I'm seeing new growth. Mostly what I've noticed from the pumpkin seed oil is way way way less hair fall. As for growth, the front appears to be making quick progress (I posted pics in my previous video...) however, the back continues to thin out. I'm currently wearing it up like in this video even though I was able to wear it out in a twistout earlier this month... not so much now. :(
