The book cockroach dude references, Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka (I'm German and had to read this in German class. not a fun time, also spoilers ahead? lol), is about a man who discovers he has turned into a giant monstrous insect over night. This character is commonly depicted as a giant cockroach and is not humanoid, he's also not able to speak anymore. His family is very disgusted and disturbed by this, only his sister cares to keep him alive. In the end she gives up caring for him and he dies and his family is even relieved. To answer some of your questions, there's no lady cockroach anywhere in the story and the cockroach character is not depicted in a cute or sexy way at all, it's actually just kinda gross? So to develop this cockroach fetish from this story is absolutely wild
The roach story had me buggin’ out 👌🏻 The fact the update is five years later had me spiraling. That one was by far the weirdest story y’all have ever covered.
“Franz Kafka (3 July 1883 - 3 June 1924) was a German-speaking Bohemian novelist and short-story writer based in Prague, who is widely regarded as one of the major figures of 20th-century literature. His work fuses elements of realism and the fantastic. It typically features isolated protagonists facing bizarre or surrealistic predicaments and incomprehensible socio-bureaucratic powers. It has been interpreted as exploring themes of alienation, existential anxiety, guilt, and absurdity.”
The tragic irony of becoming ostracized for the cockroach fetish you developed after reading Kafka is so agonizingly meta that this has to be fan fiction.
THE SECOND. THE SECOND I heard the imagining "something" else story on the menu I knew it had to be the cockroach story. I heard it a while back and was not mentally prepared to hear it again. I don't know how I'm supposed to go to work and act normal today....
You warned us that it was wild but I was absolutely not ready for whatever that last story was. While I get that he's not harming anyone, and as long as you're happy, you do you boo, I do have to say that knowing this about a co-worker or friend would completely change how I view them. Even if you replace giant roach-woman, with literally anything else, the fact that you build up this relationship and personality for your imaginary wife is what bothers me the most. I think there must be something deeply disturbed in someone's mind to come up with all that and I would also feel unsafe/disgusted by him after learning this. Also I would like to preface that I am not kink-shaming, or whatever, as I too enjoy weird stuff. The fact he chose to replace human conection (friendships and relationships) with a made up "person" is not normal.
Y’all definitely need to do this type of vid again 😂😂😂 it was unhinged. The cockroach dude needs soooooo much therapy. The fact that he’s taken a figment of his imagination and includes it in his everyday life enough to mention to coworkers of all people shows he’s not mentally there. He’s not hurting anyone, yes, for now. But for you to sit and tell me that you’re married to your imaginary wife, who also happens to be an intelligent cockroach…..I wouldn’t talk to you either 😂
Love you guys so much. Listened to you through my maternity leave and it got me through some of those long difficult days. You always make me laugh especially on the days i was feeling a bit alone and isolated. Not to pick favourites as I love you all but John you crack me up. Back to work now and still listen every week. Keep doing you, your smashing it. Love from Scotland ❤
38:56 A month behind, trying to catch up on episodes. Since I've started working at a school, I no longer have the luxury of listening as the new episodes release. The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka is one of my favorite books. So much that when we had spirit week "Dress as your favorite book character" I made my own hard shell backpack and antennae. Now that I've heard this story, I feel dirrrrrrty. HOW DARE THIS MAN RUIN IT FOR ME!!!
I love your videos when they show up on my fyp often. I only recently found the RUclips channel and so recently subbed. I gotta say, the into music is 🔥🔥🔥 I am vibing to it. Absolute fire bop.
The Ogtha story! I just found y’all’s podcast recently and found some older episodes referring this story. I figured it was something like this, but here’s the origin! Whoo-hoo! I guess… 😂
My guys, the Ogtha thing is not "Animorphs". It's Kafka, c'mon. It's a modernist novel "Metamorphosis" where the main character turnes into a cockroach (first human size, but presumably becomes normal bug size in the end, since the end of the novel is the maid swiping his body together with dust onto a dustpan and throwing it away without noticing it) and dies. I'm surprised you guys don't know about it, because it's a very known novel in pop culture
Reading the title of the episode: Okay, embarrassing, not something you should say out loud, but not that unusual. --Hearing John describe while reading the "menu": SomeTHING else???? THING??? Some*THING* else, during THAT? As in...other...species.....? (Posting this before I hear the story on purpose, so as to show my actual first reaction. NOT READING THE OTHER COMMENTS, la la la...) Edit: Well, at least he was imagining it being with an INTELLIGENT roach... (also, there are totally people who are into bug-related monster PEOPLE, for similar reasons to why this person liked..."Ogtha"...but that's kind of a different thing because they're humanoid and have human-esque faces. But...yeah, there are spider-ladies who definitely have Fans, for example.)
Condom one: Eh don't think it's really funny exposing someone to other people's sexual fluids and this is very sexual assaulty and it's not right to just assume he deserved it?
I loved Animorphs as a kid and there definitely weren't any cockroach girls to my memory, but there were plenty of monstery sentient alien species. I know at least two of them were kinda like bugs, but more like leeches and slugs. It's been well over a decade though and there could easily be a cockroach-looking alien species that was in there somewhere: there were a lot of different alien species that showed up for 1 of the 50+ books and then never again lol. The main characters did actually turn into cockroaches pretty frequently when they needed to sneak into various dangerous places, though all of the morphing stuff is described in a way that's actually pretty horrifying to read and not at all cute, so.
I get the guy with the cockroach story. Having a fetish that doesn't exist or is frowned upon is very hard but definitely not sth to be looked down upon. It's just neurotypical society distance people who are different
There is a difference between fetish/fantasy and dissociation with reality. I truly think he needs proffesional help because he dissociated to a point where he mentioned his "wife" at work without realizing it. That's a form of escapism and avoidance and it's sign of a severe mental health problem. It's not just a quirkiness anymore and it can escalate.
@@BarbaraHeliodoraMendesyeah..... once u start believing u ACTUALLY have a relationship with smth that only exists in ur imagination, and i mean this with the most respect and sympathy for OP, ur walking on the delulu line. its not healthy for YOU. sure u don't hurt anyone but ur mental health is, most likely, TANKING. I trully hope OP got therapy and is in a better place rn
@@BarbaraHeliodoraMendes I agree it's too far from simply a fetish but not the part where everyone avoids him. I hope he will find professional help too
@@aki_4191 I feel like people around him should have tried to get him to seek help more, but also, that could be seen as ableist and invasive, so I don't want to judge them. But clearly his "fetish" is now affecting his social life and maybe even professional life. So it must be addressed. Any kind of behaviour that affects your life negatively should be addressed. It's not even about it being a cockroach or a human anymore. It's about his mental health and his distancing from reality which can be a coping mechanism for some kind of depression or trauma. We of course don't have enough expertise or even information to give any diagnose, but it's clear that he needs help.
The cockroach story made me remember one of my favorite books, Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. But only the male protagonist becomes an insect. It really speaks a lot about modern society and how being ill can impact our social relationships as we become less and less useful in terms of production. In the eyes of society (and even our loved ones) we become useless pariahs, less than a human, an "otherness", an insect that no longer belongs within human society. I don't recall any story like the Reddit one, but it is a variation of the trope of falling in love with a non-human creature. Bram Stoker's "Dracula", E.T, The Fly, Twilight, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, and more modern variations would be "Her" (falling in love with an AI), Stardust (falling in love with a celestial being), and of course OP's experience about falling in love with an imaginary being.

Also... Definitely not the main theme of Metamorphosis and DEFINITELY not the point Kafka was trying to get across
OP mentions there is no lady roach but the roach concept intrigued him enough for his imagination just ran with it.
Metamorphosis? More like Metaphor Missed 😂
Franz Kafka is ROLLING in his grave rn 💀
“With a giant cockroach!-”
“No.”
"My sensual Roach Queen" I think I just felt my lifespan shorten 😂
This sentence is the best and worst thing Ive ever heard wtf.
The roach story had me buggin’ out 👌🏻 The fact the update is five years later had me spiraling. That one was by far the weirdest story y’all have ever covered.
unrealistic, a cockroach lifespan is 180 days
Well it's confirmed this story must be fake 😂
surprising that Ogtha was never upset he was sleeping with (other) people 😅

With the roach story, WHY DIDN'T HE JUST TELL HIS CO-WORKERS HIS "WIFE" IS SHY AND LIVES OVERSEAS???

In the condom story: I could see the condoms being left all over the apt as a response to infidelity. And in that case, I ALSO love this woman.

Not fun fact: insect hentai exists
When you're looking for insect information to answer your sister's question, make sure safe search is on
Yess!! I remember that show!! I can never remember what it’s called!
If he sees cockroach in real life, does he get turned on? This man needs therapy and how did this came to this but he is not bothering anyone.

The Roach guy really wants to go to the planet where the alien from Men In Black, came from.
The YTV show Alex was talking about is Freaky Stories.... It was a cockroach and a maggot I think
The ad placement for Hello Fresh was kind of disturbing, right after that "juice" story 😂😂😂
Ok but we need Ogtha Forever merch
I love Beef!! It’s such a good show
