I'm 😭 crying... Singers these days 2024, don't write or sing songs like this anymore... For many people it might have been the good, the bad or the ugly time in their life... But Thanks to God Almighty we made it to 15 Jan 2024🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Reminds me of my Grandparents 😢 my Grandmother grew her wings in 2016 and my Grandfather in 2023. I know they’re happy up yonder but it’s is down here that miss them terribly. I love you both ❤
I'm old school, as I'm 71 and yes i remember these beautiful love ballards. Our generation had the best love songs and the best songs to dance to . Sure a lot of singers have been called home, there music lives on.❤
I remember when this tune came out on the radio in 1964. I was amazed at what a beautiful sound Jerry and Betty had in recording this classic love song. 60 years later it is still as rich.
That's when I found out who kept playing this song, you see I was a waitress during the midnight shift and every night this song was played on the jukebox. Then I met him and we dated and got married. We was married for 24yrs 6 months and then he passed away.
I’m getting chills. 2/28/24 would have been my parent’s 60th wedding anniversary. This was their song. They made it to 50 years but my mom was ill and died on March 4th 2014. My dad passed away in 2020. I miss you guys so much! Rest now I love you ❤
What a wonderful moment in time preserved for everyone to enjoy. A great song done justice by two beautiful voices. Thanks for making it happen TJ and for sharing it with all of us.
This song reminds me of my grandparents. They have both grown their wings now. I get nostalgic thinking of them and the times we've shared. I know one day, somewhere and somehow I will see them again. RIP Nan (24-9-2016) and Pa (06-12-2023) I love you both......
I remember purchasing the DVD from PBS when this show aired. I purchased it because of THIS performance. It was really touching and Jerry Butler was a complete gentleman, giving so much of the spotlight to Betty. Her voice never failed her and, yes, I'd say this was THE most special moment of all your PBS specials. I've watched all of them on PBS. Thank you, TJL.
Beautiful. So sad. They found her in retirement for this show as TJ tried to memorialize a lot of these aging oldies masters on video for us. This PBS show was in 2001 I believe. Betty passed just months later.😢😢
@@solraclarkin4375 TJ did a remarkable job bringing so many of these classic artists back into the spotlight (for many of them - one last time). I miss the specials he would put together for PBS.
@clapolla this was my Parents favorite song, But mine was “Walk Easy My Son” because my Dad sung this song to me when I was a kid 9 years old. Every since then I started listening to Doo-Wop on PBS in 1979
This was Betty's last performance with the ICE MAN she passed soon after this Performances. They were super good Friends. Betty passed away in 2001. Jerry is 84 and lives in Chicago. In 1991 he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Impressions with Curtis Mayfield and the rest of the group. As of 4/24 he hasn't been as a solo act. Also as of 4/24 Betty Everett has Not. Jerry Butlers voice was as smooth as Ice, Hence the name the "ICE MAN"
I have just listened to 4 versions of this song, Betty &Jerry, Kenny Vance & Johnnie Maestro, Don & Phil, and Art Garfunkel & his son, can't pick the best, don't need to, love them all
I am a BABY BOOMER. THIS WAS A FAVORITE IN MY TEENAGE YEARS AND MARRIAGE. MANY YEARS LATER, IT STILL IS SPECIAL. TEACHING MY GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDDAUGHTERS TO LISTEN TO LYRICS AND MUSIC, SO THEY WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOOD MUSIC AND NOT TRASH.
I fell in love with this song in the 8th grade. I decided then, that I wanted it at my wedding. I married, but no wedding! I think it’s one of the most beautiful songs ever. ❤
I miss the days when all singers could/would sing. The days when the lyrics had such meaning. Couldn't give us a better demonstration . Thank you, Betty and Jerry, and all involved. ❤
I was 14 but my sister was 17 and played this ALOT in our bedroom so I remember this song and it makes me cry evertime I hear it its so beautiful Jerry butler voice UNREAL 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
She didn’t look well here, and I noticed graciously Jerry’s part, she sang instead ❤️one of my favorite songs and they performed it beautifully as always
Jerry Butler your voice is like Butter sweet for so Betty Everett you can sing you melt my heart with that voice This is what you called singing ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Just simply Beautiful, you hear me!!! Yes, yes, Odis was a great impression of the Day recognizing all of his songs, kept you moving, We will keep you rolling, ❤️ and Peace, Soul
In 1996 I got to see a moment like this live at the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's Seventh Annual Pioneer Awards where Betty was one of the honorees. When the two of them came out on stage I almost started crying. It was definitely my favorite performance that evening, along with Bobby Womack who also was honored. Sadly, the video made was not aired on TV. So happy that this video is here for me to reminisce. Thank you.
Yes, and she passed the following year. That's why this video is so bittersweet to me. She was so nervous because she hadn't performed in many years. And she knocked it out of the box!!! Continue to RIP sweet Betty.😔🙏
I grew up a big fan of Chicago soul and had multiple records by these two, including their exquisite 1964 hit duet version of this Gilbert Be'caud 1950s French pop classic "Je t'appartiens" ("Let It Be Me"). With Jerry Butler I go back to "Moon River" (1961) and "Make It Easy on Yourself" (1962); with Betty Everett it was "You're No Good" 1963). This incredibly moving PBS TV performance decades later took me completely by surprise. Its back story alone is emotionally overwhelming. Notice how Betty holds on to ultimate gentleman Jerry the whole time for the strength to make it through.

Oh so beautifully done. They look like a pair of Angels❤❤❤❤❤I remember this song. I was a baby when it came out. I can hear my mama singing it as she did her house chores. She had a beautiful voice. She went home to be with her Father in heaven on the 27th day of December 2017. I miss her and always will remember her lovely voice singing through the house while she worked.🌹❤😇♥️ SIPP Momma! I’m crying now. I’m so happy that I grew up during a time when love was celebrated and the “ woman” was the prize in the relationship.
This song is very heart touching I'm dedicating this song to the man I have lost we been together for 24 years the day I lost him ❤❤❤❤
