Very helpful video thanks. A quick question…. I have recently changed the whole blade assembly on my hs82t but now the gearbox grease is getting past the little orange plastic grease seal and I need to repack the grease after a days use. It’s coming out where the blades leave the gearbox. Have you come across this before or do you have any suggestions? The grease seal looks in good order but I might get a new one and see what happens.
Its normal for a bit of grease to work its way out the end, that little orange thing is a debris shield to stop bits of debris getting in, it not a proper tight seal as such. Dont completely pack the gearbox out with grease either as that can cause issues.
Thank you for your reply. Maybe I have just been putting in to much grease? But after a few hours of running it starts to sound a bit rough so I figured that it was because the grease had escaped. I’ll try a bit less grease tomorrow and see how it goes 👍
@@ColinBell-uq4ui Grease should last quite awhile so somethings up if it constantly needs it. Is your grease too runny? I would wip the cover off and double check everything looks good in there. Check main cover gasket is still good as well. 👍
How much is cost of these replacement blades normally i live in barbados and my machine blades wont rotate first time it happened i sharpen the blades and grease the gear it was fine but it stsrted again yesterday
Hello. I'm not a pro, I would like to ask you if the older blades were already bad? it seems to me that the older blades still have enough meat, or am I wrong? I think it is important to clean the blades where they touch each other and to oil the blades. if necessary, the blades are also sharpened. diesel, for example, is greasy and also cleans solidly.
Yeh the old set still has plenty of life left in them and are now a backup set, however the spacers are slightly worn down and part of the friction plate had snapped off. I managed to pick the new set up for a bargain price so couldnt turn it down, and i always like having a spare set of blades. Diesel works wonders 👌
Hey mate, all depends on how much you use it and if you abuse them or not 😂. As long as your teeth still have plenty of meat left on them you should just be able to sharpen them when they get dull. A whole blade set assembly should easily last 3 yrs with proper maintenance and sharpening when needed. Unless you are a seriously heavy user, that is, or you just dont want the hassle of sharpening your own 👍
I need to replace my hedge trimmer, an old hs80, I was thinking about the hs82r, can anyone shed light on where it is manufactured? I know Stihl churn out millions of hedge trimmers from their Chinese factory, but I cannot find out if the hs82r is made there as well.
@@jeromefeneau6053 Thank you Jerome, I appreciate the comment. I have spoken to two contractors since who echo your comment, they advise that the new Stihl are inferior to the older more robust models like my old HS80. I was advised to consider the Husqvarna 522HSR hedge trimmer instead, more expensive but I have Husqvarna consaws and they are superb. Greetings from Ireland.
Test? Just run it up like normal. The gearbox might be sluggish to start with because of the new grease. you can also lubricate the new blades if needed.
@@RJLgardens Both are a nuisance and no need of them ,my HS80 with a 30 inch bar has none of them and it can cut in perfect straight lines .The blade guard gets in the way and cocks up the cut line on a nice privet hedge i found

Well done. Great video and exactly what I needed. Much thanks!
Nice one, cheers
Though I now use the Husqvarna 522HDR75X for everyday use, I still have my HS81R'S as backup, it is a phenomenal machine!
Hows that husky?
I have an HS82T and HS87T on hold at my dealers, this could save me some money when I need to do this
Yeh saves buying a new one when it only needs new blades 👌

Thank you for the excellent tutorial
Cheers 👍
Cheers for that, I’ll be following your advice 👍
Hope it helped
Where did you get the replacement blades from and what did you pay for them as they seem quite pricey?
Luckily got them on an auction site for around £70 i think, so an absolute bargain 👌

Do you use a spray on the cutter bar just before you start cutting for the day ?
Yeh put on before and after cutting 👍
How long would you recommend until you have to replace yearly or every 3 years? Thanks

How many years did the old ones last?
Old ones still have a bit of life left in them, about 5 or so years old maybe
Hi m8 can you recomend a good grease thats cheaper than the stihl branded stuff , thank you
Any half decent multipurpose lithium grease should be fine, just don't go for really cheap stuff as it doesn't last very long.
Where did you get the blades, and how much?
Do they have a safety switch
Where? not sure what you're on about
To check/test?

Hi
Hello
No sating sor
Stihl needs to get rid of that blade guard. It's annoying. I took mine off, way more precision trimming.
The tip protector or the big thigh guard?
