I believe Goku also likes to give villains second chances is because of the reference point of Piccolo and how he slowly became a better person overtime which would make Goku think that people can be redeemed which was proven true through characters like Vegeta, The Androids, Majin Buu in DBZ; even characters like Yamcha and Tien wanted to kill Goku at a certain point but changed their ways. I think the conversation that Goku and Merus had in the Moro arc does a good job at explaining Goku's morality which was that all he would have to do is train and get stronger inorder to fight them again and maybe during that time they will see the light due to the examples of his friends.
I think most people get mad at Goku for sparing opponents because they don’t understand his character. You summarized Goku’s character development perfectly. It’s the reason why I don’t hate the Moro arc at all. Goku giving the senzu bean was in his character in that situation. The only thing that pissed people off in that moment was when Moro actually did something smart by merging with Earth whereas Frieza was a “fool” with his power. So actually, Moro is a better villain than Frieza because he is smart and not stupid like Frieza.

Hey Curt, Thank you for going back to classic dragon ball, I have always thought that in order to understand Goku as a character we need to go back there, despite the fact that he changed a lot as a result of being in the other world, it is definitely the origin and to expand DB knowledge we must always refer to it, well done. I believe Goku does not like to kill, he does not enjoy it because he lost his saiyan blood thirst when he got hit in the head. In dragon ball he did it because the series was more brutal as it came out in the 80s, shootings and deaths like in Robocop and Rambo movies were cool or trendy, hence the Red Ribbon arc, in my humble opinion. We could argue as well the fact that kid Goku killed in db because he was a savage until the moment he got out of the mountain becuase of Bulma, prior to that Goku did not see many other humans, and the way to solve an issue was to kill the beasts. As Goku starts to know the human world and has friends, Goku starts to doubt about killing others and also I think he did not want to finish radditz simply becuase he was his brother and somehow Goku wanted to know more about his race, it's only natural. With Vegeta, Freezer, Buu and Moro it is exactly as you stated it. Goku's purity of heart matches to the believe that we must forgive our enemies as per Jesus teachings. After Frieza, it got old. I thought his lesson from that fight was that some people could not be reached and had to be put down. Apparently Goku didn't learn jack from that as he even had Frieza revived later.
Goku brought him back, so he could help at the Tournament, which that did end up being a good idea at the end, sense Frieza was a factor in getting Jiren eliminated.

My opinion is by the time of the piccolo arc Goku's Saiyan instincts was fully developed mixed with his pure heart made him spare his opponents for the chance to fight them again were they would hopefully be reformed one day. but as time passed and Goku fought more evil enemies he learned that some foes are beyond redemption which is why he wanted Gohan to finish cell or to kill buu as they were beyond evil in his eyes. as for Moro he gave moro the Chance to change and when Moro refused it Goku desired to finish him to end the threat. Because he wants to fight them again. Also, I think because he doesn't want to kill his enemies like the way that his enemies do. You shouldn't kill someone that is defenseless because it is going against honor. If they are no longer a threat, they shouldn't be killed in a dishonorable way or be killed at all. I was thinking about this, and I think it's possible. If SSB is Super Saiyan combining with SSG, then SSB2&3 could be possible. But I don't know if they'll go this route
@@KaioshinCurt maybe not in the actual main canon story but in other official non-canon Dragon Ball material probably yeah plus it would sell a lot of merchandise however there's some confusion on whether or not Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is considered a "Super Saiyan Blue 2" but if you ask me I just always looked at Super Saiyan Blue Evolution as an evolved limit breaker version of Super Saiyan Blue or Perfected Super Saiyan Blue in the manga and that's about it.
anyone else notice the parells between Goku and Obi wan, and Anakin and frieza. Anakin was left cut in half just like frieza was left on a burning planet by the ones that beat them Obi Wan/Goku. Akira was a fan of starwars by the way so this doesn't seem too far fetched

#ENDERS All of these are contributing factors. The real reason why Goku doesn't kill, was explained by Goku himself VS Vegeta. Goku told Krillin, "If you strike him down, you'll only show that we aren't better than he is. It means that they won, no matter what." This is what I think the real reason is.
I don't remember Goku saying that, must've been a change in the dubbed version. Goku let him go, because he was amazed at Vegeta's strength, despite his training on Kai, Goku was more impressed with him, he was excited and wanted to fight him again.
I think it's mostly cause how different he is from vegeta. Like vegeta kills his enemies not trusting them . While goku wants his enemies to be good and has more morals. Plus he gave frieza a chance yet frieza is the type of Villain to never turn good. So goku usually kills his villains if he doesn't have a choice . So like for instance vegeta Vegeta proved to be good despite being an anti hero. Their is also the fact that goku does kill his villains if they aren't gonna turn good and change there ways.

Bringing GT, goku was planning to give eis the finishing blow, but Nuova pleased goku to let him live...then eis blinded him and tried to kill him but he failed, and was killed by the dragon fist instead. Goku doesn't like to kill because he's sees potential in others and wants to give others a chance for redemption. Gokul didn’t intentionally kill general Tao or king piccolo. Tao threw a Gernade at him and Goku kicked it back. Goku was simply fighting king piccolo when he punched him. I don’t think he knew he was gonna punch threw his body let alone it killing him which is a plot hole because king piccolo should’ve been able to regenerate from that. I understand Goku not killing piccolo Jr because piccolo never did anything to hurt anybody well at least to Gokul’s knowledge. Oh yeah! You skipped Nappa. He was the 5th villain Goku spared. Goku sparing all 3 saiyans was stupid. Raditz kidnapped your son and the other 2 saiyans were responsible for the death of 4 of your friends. And with piccolo gone and not knowing of planet namek yet. Raditz, Nappa and Vegeta should’ve been killed in rage. You also skipped the ginyu force with the exception of guldo. Goku knocked out recoome and burter, let jeice escape and even him and Vegeta chose not to kill a froggy captain ginyu. Goku also wasn’t trying to kill android 19. Despite the heart virus taking effect. And we know he wouldn’t have killed gero either. Goku was just fighting like he always do

Because he wants to fight them again. Also, I think because he doesn't want to kill his enemies like the way that his enemies do. You shouldn't kill someone that is defenseless because it is going against honor. If they are no longer a threat, they shouldn't be killed in a dishonorable way or be killed at all. But kind of wonder why he didn't kill Vegeta in the Majin Vegeta state. I know some reasons, but would like to some of your thoughts on it. Anyways, great video. #Enders

I was thinking about this, and I think it's possible. If SSB is Super Saiyan combining with SSG, then SSB2&3 could be possible. But I don't know if they'll go this route
@@KaioshinCurt maybe not in the actual main canon story but in other official non-canon Dragon Ball material probably yeah plus it would sell a lot of merchandise however there's some confusion on whether or not Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is considered a "Super Saiyan Blue 2" but if you ask me I just always looked at Super Saiyan Blue Evolution as an evolved limit breaker version of Super Saiyan Blue or Perfected Super Saiyan Blue in the manga and that's about it.

I didn't realize that it took goku that long to realize he could turn into a great ape. Also, I like how goku doesn't seem to kill anymore, I always felt sad when someone died, even if it was a bad guy.

All of these are contributing factors. The real reason why Goku doesn't kill, was explained by Goku himself VS Vegeta. Goku told Krillin, "If you strike him down, you'll only show that we aren't better than he is. It means that they won, no matter what." This is what I think the real reason is.
I don't remember Goku saying that, must've been a change in the dubbed version. Goku let him go, because he was amazed at Vegeta's strength, despite his training on Kai, Goku was more impressed with him, he was excited and wanted to fight him again.

Vegeta proved to be good despite being an anti hero.
Their is also the fact that goku does kill his villains if they aren't gonna turn good and change there ways.

You forgot that Goku did kill Tambourine and Drum in Dragon Ball. Also King Kai and others on his planet.
We could argue as well the fact that kid Goku killed in db because he was a savage until the moment he got out of the mountain becuase of Bulma, prior to that Goku did not see many other humans, and the way to solve an issue was to kill the beasts. As Goku starts to know the human world and has friends, Goku starts to doubt about killing others and also I think he did not want to finish radditz simply becuase he was his brother and somehow Goku wanted to know more about his race, it's only natural. With Vegeta, Freezer, Buu and Moro it is exactly as you stated it.

Bringing GT, goku was planning to give eis the finishing blow, but Nuova pleased goku to let him live...then eis blinded him and tried to kill him but he failed, and was killed by the dragon fist instead. If eis wasn't an pr*ck, i bet Goku would also spared his life....sadly syn would still kill both dragons for spiting in his face

Gokul didn’t intentionally kill general Tao or king piccolo. Tao threw a Gernade at him and Goku kicked it back. Goku was simply fighting king piccolo when he punched him. I don’t think he knew he was gonna punch threw his body let alone it killing him which is a plot hole because king piccolo should’ve been able to regenerate from that. I understand Goku not killing piccolo Jr because piccolo never did anything to hurt anybody well at least to Gokul’s knowledge.
Oh yeah! You skipped Nappa. He was the 5th villain Goku spared. Goku sparing all 3 saiyans was stupid. Raditz kidnapped your son and the other 2 saiyans were responsible for the death of 4 of your friends. And with piccolo gone and not knowing of planet namek yet. Raditz, Nappa and Vegeta should’ve been killed in rage.
You also skipped the ginyu force with the exception of guldo. Goku knocked out recoome and burter, let jeice escape and even him and Vegeta chose not to kill a froggy captain ginyu.
Goku also wasn’t trying to kill android 19. Despite the heart virus taking effect. And we know he wouldn’t have killed gero either. Goku was just fighting like he always do
