This beautiful piece was often played by my father who was a violin player, He played this at all three of our( daughters) weddings. I surprised my dad and played it for mom and dads 50th wedding anniversary on my flute. Now that dad is gone, when I do play it or just hear others playing it, I cry alot. It is sooo beautiful!
When I was a boy in a small Asian country, at age 10 years, this piece of music was featured at the end of a radio drama series. I did not know the name of this piece. But I liked it so much I would listen until the very end every night. Now, at age 65, I finally know the name of the composition. Brings back lots of nostalgic moments.
I am now 81, and I too have many such musical memories, of listening to the BBC radio in the 1950's onwards, when such music had it's own slot on certain stations, and a huge following.
I’ve got almost the same experience. I first heard this music in the middle of a radio drama when I was a teenager in Shanghai and I never forget it. Today I finally know the name of it and I’m 54 now.
Absolutely beautiful. I watched with my daughters (1.5 year old and 3.5 year old) and they were in awe. My older daughter asked, “why are her eyes closed?” And I explained it’s because she is playing with her heart and soul. A very touching moment with my girls and this music. What life is all about.
Like your daughter, I always wondered about the sorrowful expression on the violinist's face. I am not familiar with the story behind the opera. I hope someone can enlighten me. Thank you.
@@hanrolavh4546 the thing about playing classical music is that however much you feel it as a listener, you feel it approximately 1000-fold when playing. you can't help but be completely immersed in the music, and feel the harmony and phrasing in your entire being. harmony literally modulates human emotions, so when you have complete focus / immersion in it, it's intense. you're along for the ride. when it comes to this piece in particular, the story behind it is pretty sorrowful itself. "The story follows the life of the famed Alexandrian courtesan Thaïs and the monk Athanaël who has come to convince her to renounce her sinful life. She is driven into hysterics by the monk's words, seeing emptiness in her life and the approach of old age, until she collapses. The famous Meditation that follows her collapse musically depicts her conversion to a life of piety. The opera ends tragically, as Athanaël, having successfully converted her and returned to his monastery, is tormented by what he realizes is love for the former courtesan. He returns to Alexandria to find her dead and confesses his love and physical desire for her to the unhearing ears of her corpse."
How beauitful that the music now embodies him in your heart. I'm happy for you. You might listen to Debussy "Prelude to the afternoon of the fawn". I get a similar feeling from that piece. I become Immerse in it's gentle journey.
This was performed at my brother's funeral last week by two fellow musicians. He too was a violinist and this piece was such an emotional tribute to the beauty of his life and his music. This performance is exquisite.
This music is just perfect for both funerals and weddings - I've seen them. May this piece always give you good memories and deep comfort when you remember your brother and all those who have "gone before",
My 19 year old Grandson played on his violin as a surprise number on my 70 th Birthday In May 2019. I never heard him play this seriously but I knew he was a member of his high school orchestra in Stuttgart, Germany. When the first few notes wafted in the air , silence fell. . The calmness and sweetness of the music caught everybody in awe. I didn’t want to spoil my make up , but I did. Tears were rolling down my cheeks. I brought me back when he was in middle school and told me me that wanted to join the school orchestra in Virginia Beach, .. His instrument of choice, VIOLIN. . I flew in from LAX. to personally deliver his first Yamaha violin. Thank you, O’shaun for making my birthday a memorable one.

This is the last piece my teacher of 10 years gave me the sheet to before she stopped teaching. I’m gonna learn this and play it every chance I get until I graduate high school next year.
This performance is more than perfect. It's ANOTHER THING. The sound comes before technical perfection. The dialogue between the two musicians comes before notes. It's like a perfect poem, perfectly expressed by two impeccable actors. It's an uninterrupted dialogue, without any kind of hesitation or mistake. Everything is fluid, serene and perfect. This is the magic of art and the beauty of life.

How could 775 people have "disliked" this? Itzak Perlman's performance of this piece, with a symphony orchestra behind him, is not less perfect or less beautiful than this duet. I have listened to the Meditation from Thais at least a couple of hundred times, and this performance still has me crying; it is almost too beautiful, too emotional, for me to bear.
It's sometimes hard to understand how classical music evokes something in some people to not allow it in or just cross it off. Rusanda. My favorite part of this video is of your face. FEELING the love and the PAIN that is expressed in this piece of music. That I FEEL when ever I hear it performed as beautifully as you did, here.
I love this piece of music. It reminds me of my first violin teacher Mrs Andrews in 1972. She played this. She was a good teacher and great player. This is beautifully played here.

Amazing, I know my name doesn’t make me seem like I’m a violin player but I am. I have probably listened to this video over 100 times within 3 days. I am doing this solo and have been using your video to help me. I’m no where near this good yet. I’m planning on going to state for the third year in a row. Thank you for your help!
Congrats on almost making state! I am here to learn this song for fun. I started learning it years ago but haven’t been very adamant about practicing since I graduated HS. I’ve decided to pick it back up and love this song so much!
Beautifully performed, thank you. You reminded me of my daughter's violin teacher, Kathleen Ash Barraclough. When she played this piece it brought tears to my eyes. Though she is now in 'another world' her legacy lives on in my daughter and other students. The music dies, but the melody never dies. You touched my soul!
This is now playing on Classic Radio. I heard it again on CR in about '97 and I said to my then great friend what is that sad beautiful piece. He stopped and listened and said 'yes... isn't that beautiful, it's Massenet Thais. I went and bought the album. It always reminds me of my great friend Michael. God bless him. The piece sends me to that far away place that music does when it hits the emotions and this does, beautifully played.
The beauty, the sublime beauty. The sound is one that might rouse the darkest hearts, and if all else fails, represent some sliver of hope for this world.
This rendition is absolutely beautiful. Many excellent violinists and cellists play this with emotion and finesse. I have listened to many artists and I cry evertime. This music is what LOVE sounds like.
I'm not sure how I stumbled upon as I say "one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed". I never tire of it and have listened to it hundreds of times. It is always a great joy to introduce others to it. It is one that will be played at my wedding and also my funeral.
This is really moving, I'm on tears and plus the fact that my name is actually Thais makes it fells like this is more personal, but returning to the point. This performance is perfect
I've been looking for this piece of music for ages. Finally, I could find it and that makes me feel so lucky! Now I can't stop listening to it. It's such a stunning and powerful melody
I first heard Meditation from the Opera Thaïs as a kid in the early ‘70s and still cannot get to the end of this masterpiece without stopping to pull myself together, the emotion it generates is simply unworldly.
woah, so this is the song that I used to listen to as a child when I was taking naps. I still remember the CD had a yellow flower on it and it would go in my pink cd player and i'd always skip to this song... its magical.
I asked some friends to listen to this piece and they said “oh it’s classical music? Must be boring then” and I nearly ripped their throats out How dare they???
I am 12 and I am learning this right now. Listening to this has helped me learn it. Thank you so much. P. S. I do not play this as good as you though. Edit: thank you for all the likes. This is the most likes I've gotten
All of you just remember you are doing amazing things and when your instructors tell you to practice, practice! You all might end up in Carnegie Hall someday! The world needs people like you who have a love for your instrument and a love for music like this! Never let your love die!
Very lovely playing!! This is the most beautiful piece of music ever composed I know there are a number of lovely compositions but nothing so emotional as this with the use of a few simple notes arranged in a way that gives such a heart rending feeling for quite a long piece of music which takes you on a journey to the end with out repeating its self. Thank you Rusanda!! hope you love it as much as I do.
When I was 3 years old, 72 years ago, my father played this piece in front of me on the violin. I play it often now myself and it never fails to bring tears. I can also play it on my 4 string renaissance guitar.
I have purchased every recording of this song that I have been able to find. I think by far this is the finest performance of the piece that I have ever heard. I loved her use of vibrato which puts such intense emotion and color into this beautiful piece. I could sit here and listen to it over and over again.
I have never had a song move me to tears before simply on its own merit. Songs have reminded me of sad times, or parts in movies that were very emotional or something. But this song moved me to tears. Bravissimo to both artists. Thank you for sharing this with the world.
Why do people criticise the clothing??? It makes no. Absolute. Sense. First off, they’re perfectly fine, and look good on them. Secondly, YOU SHOULD BE HERE FOR THE MUSIC. THE CLOTHES ARE ADDED BONUSES.
That's the point. There is no need for added bonuses of any sort. Massenet's music speaks for itself. Indeed, if I were Massenet, looking down from Heaven, I would probably be offended. "What? My music isn't good enough? It needs this pseudo-sexual visual promotion?"
@@DieFlabbergast legs? Are sexual? Why can’t ppl dress nice and play their violins? You try to look nice when you know you’re going to be posted online.
Pity this was not posted when I helped my (now) wife prepare this to play at her son's wedding in 2015, and we listened to every other offering out there, as it is truly exceptional. Of course, it's a piece where if you're a famous player, you have to do something just a bit different and unique with it (I would imagine ...); this certainly achieves this as it is not only so beautifully played, but comes across as so spontaneous, heartfelt and sincere, without any 'ego' or showmanship - I am sure Thais has really got something sorted out in his life, after listening to it! And I have never heard anyone do a slide like up the the last note before!! :-)
Lovely performance of a beautiful piece of music and one of my favourite compositions. Wonderfully sympathetic piano accompaniment from Donka. Never mind the ill informed comments about the dresses (which are gorgeous by the way). You dress however the hell you like. When you're that accomplished a musician it's your privilege. Thank you ladies and well done.
Heartfelt thanks to you, Ms. Panfili. It was my father's favorite piece of music and one of mine, as well. You did it more than justice. Mr. Massenet would have requested an encore. Bravo, bravissimo!
I was just listening to this piece at first and I honest to God thought there were violins and an orchestra behind the soloist for the first few seconds. I have never heard an accompaniment sound so much like an actual orchestra. The piano is _phenomenal!_
EXACTLY!! i’m playing the piece rn and it’s so hard to emulate this beautiful part, let alone the piece, and make it sound so emotional yet in tune haha
My son is turning 11 next month and he is taking the AMEB grade 4 violin exam next month too. I showed him this beautiful violin video repertoire and he said he would play it next year in grade 6.
C'est toute l'âme de la France, parfois profonde, parfois intense, parfois délicate, qui est révélée dans la splendeur de cette superbe pièce de Jules Massenet !
what's wrong with the dress?????? I don't get it. My heart was about to jump out of my chest from how insanely beautiful this was and some people have the time to criticize perfectly fine clothing?
Is it the music? is it the legs?, no matter, I'll listen and watch, watch and listen for as long as I have a leg to stand on! A standing ovation performance!!!
So beautiful! I am the author of the novel "Mary Full of Grace" and I mentioned this particular song in the story. It is the secret song that cements the spiritual connection between the protagonist, Mary Celeste, and her secret lover, Rupert. Your rendition is the most beautiful I could find!
To know she played this sincerely from memory speaks incredible volumes of her passion and dedication to this beautiful masterpiece…I am forever in awe with this composition, and this became the highlight of a favorite song ♥️♥️♥️
My very talented Uncle Richard played this piece many years ago in India when we were kids, but only later realised its full beauty...Yes it brings tears as memories flood back.........
I am learning this at the moment - I am 11 and this has really inspired me. I do not understand the fuss about the dress as this made me feel like I was in heaven!
This is one of my absolute favorite pieces for the violin EVER…it is so unimaginably beautiful. This is a Breathtaking performance of one of the best compositions of all time.❤️ amazing job, ladies!
Great version of an amazing piece! I mostly play guitar and electric violin rock, blues, fusion etc. professionally but still revisit the great classics on a regular basis for inspiration! The great composers and exponents of their work definitely 'plug into' something very spiritual. ❤

I was super close to going to state, I was 3 points off
Congrats on almost making state!
You are an elegant lady playing this beautiful piece. You touch everybody’s heart. Thank you.
To my mind this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. Here it is played superbly, with such sensitivity by two beautiful women.
ABSOLUTELY!❤️🙏
I just found this piece watching G & G ice skate to it! Brought tears to my eyes. Just lovely 🥰
I'm not sure how I stumbled upon as I say "one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed". I never tire of it and have listened to it hundreds of times. It is always a great joy to introduce others to it. It is one that will be played at my wedding and also my funeral.
Rusanda, thank you for bringing me to heaven with your most sensitive, touching, transcendent performances. Thank you so much ❤❤❤
Your rendition truly was the one that felt soulful, heartfelt, but gentle enough not to frighten an anxious patient into a panic attack.
One of my favorite pieces. I played this on my high school piano recital. I still play it 34 years later!
This is the best version I have ever listened among many players. From the whole picture to every detailed note, Perfect!🌹🌹🌹
I could despair that anyone could possibly dislike this... The world is indeed a sadder place.
Sublime. The beauty of this piece played by two wonderful musicians takes me to the heart of my being.
I asked some friends to listen to this piece and they said “oh it’s classical music? Must be boring then” and I nearly ripped their throats out
How dare they???
'Ripped their throats out'. 😂
Twosetter?
Simply Sahana yeh lol
Forgive them all for they know not what they do.
Forgive your friends they probably don’t know how to enjoy this song
Words could never truly describe how amazing this is, but "divine" would be a start. Thank you for sharing!
I am 12 and I am learning this right now. Listening to this has helped me learn it. Thank you so much.
P. S. I do not play this as good as you though.
Edit: thank you for all the likes. This is the most likes I've gotten
keep practicing ......you will do it !.......P.S. ...i take lessons too ...two years now.....i am 65 .....never too late
Same exact situation right now also 12
Elizabeth Domashchenko , don’t worry Elizabeth I started on this for 4 months and now I’m going to Carnegie hall to performe!😄
13 same problem.
All of you just remember you are doing amazing things and when your instructors tell you to practice, practice! You all might end up in Carnegie Hall someday! The world needs people like you who have a love for your instrument and a love for music like this! Never let your love die!
What a performance! I can't help looping it over and over. Rusanda and Donka are simply amazing.
Bellísima
When I was 3 years old, 72 years ago, my father played this piece in front of me on the violin. I play it often now myself and it never fails to bring tears. I can also play it on my 4 string renaissance guitar.
My favorite violin 🎻 and piano 🎹 version. Congratulations Rusanda. I can hear your heart playing...
A superb performance of a beautiful piece of music, congratulations to Rusanda and Donka.I loved listening and watching. Michael Parkinson
Utterly stunning. This piece is played from the heart, just amazing xx
I have purchased every recording of this song that I have been able to find. I think by far this is the finest performance of the piece that I have ever heard. I loved her use of vibrato which puts such intense emotion and color into this beautiful piece. I could sit here and listen to it over and over again.
This touched me somewhere deep in my soul. I feel so blessed to have found this piece and this beautiful recording
I have never had a song move me to tears before simply on its own merit. Songs have reminded me of sad times, or parts in movies that were very emotional or something. But this song moved me to tears. Bravissimo to both artists. Thank you for sharing this with the world.
This is the best version I ever listened to. Such a wonderful and beautiful sound especially on the G string.
Just stunning:)
And the acoustics of the room compliment the music too.
Not at all, stupid ! The piece is written for solo violin and orchestra in D major. *Lucien*
Your vibrato brings each sound to life, makes all notes have their stories just by themselves! ... Music within music...
Dieflabbergast chill dude, they’re just wearing what they want to wear
@@DieFlabbergast it's a dress, snowflake. Cry harder.
@@DieFlabbergast legs? Are sexual? Why can’t ppl dress nice and play their violins? You try to look nice when you know you’re going to be posted online.
The dress is distracting. Period.
💗💗💗💗 my soul aches when I hear this, I turn inward and tears fall ....I don't know how else to describe how I feel when I hear this....
Thank you for sharing this beautiful experience with us. May your artistry and generosity be acknowleged the world over.
OMG! I am touched by the elegance and sweet beauty of her playing. Thank you for warming my heart!
Heartfelt thanks to you, Ms. Panfili. It was my father's favorite piece of music and one of mine, as well. You did it more than justice. Mr. Massenet would have requested an encore. Bravo, bravissimo!
We will never get to hear this kind of lovely music ever again. Gone are the good old days.
Most Beautiful of all that ever played the violin to Meditation! Her artistic mastery is unbelievable!
Pete Totaro Check Janine Jansen playing this and you'll change your mind..!
ANATOLI EXADAKTILOU - Thanks Anatoli!
Anne-Sophie Mutter is far better.
I have to perform this tomorrow and she is totally my inspiration
I hope your recital went well sweetie. Good luck.
My son is turning 11 next month and he is taking the AMEB grade 4 violin exam next month too. I showed him this beautiful violin video repertoire and he said he would play it next year in grade 6.
So very beautiful - both pianist and soloist!
C'est toute l'âme de la France, parfois profonde, parfois intense, parfois délicate, qui est révélée dans la splendeur de cette superbe pièce de Jules Massenet !
C'est trop beau
Wonderful. Very graceful and well put together performance. Always love to see artists who love their instrument😊
The sheer beauty of this…….no words can do justice to what this sound brings into the world. 🥹
Absolutely the most loveliest performance and interpretation! Thanks so much both of you ....enjoyed it enormously
My Heart was thrilled by every poignant note...the music itself mirrors the desponent agony the woman is suffering...very touching. ThankYou!
what's wrong with the dress?????? I don't get it. My heart was about to jump out of my chest from how insanely beautiful this was and some people have the time to criticize perfectly fine clothing?
Both dresses are beautiful!
Nothing is wrong with the dress nor your sight Sir ! Enjoy and Cheers , Capt. Olsen out of Denmark.
Only a complete boor would have a bad word to say about these musicians' appearance.
The dress is impeccable, only a complete idiot would even bring up the dress. Just relax and enjoy the beautiful sounds 💖💖💖💔
It must be envy. Maybe they are all dress designers?
Thank you for your beautiful performance and virtuosity. 🌷
Simply wonderful. Such expression and tenderness in the play!
Is it the music? is it the legs?, no matter, I'll listen and watch, watch and listen for as long as I have a leg to stand on! A standing ovation performance!!!
Panfili's Vibrato is silky, gradual, smooth
Zhang Guiyu sorry what?
I agree, some people are too choppy with it but she does very well
@@GATAWv Vibrato is that shaking of her hand on the string, which enriches the tone quality of each note.
yep. wish mine could be like that :(
This piece brings back my memories, sorrows, and makes me cry .............
So beautiful! I am the author of the novel "Mary Full of Grace" and I mentioned this particular song in the story. It is the secret song that cements the spiritual connection between the protagonist, Mary Celeste, and her secret lover, Rupert. Your rendition is the most beautiful I could find!
wow! that’s so cool!
@@Supermnlee It's still among my favorite!
Absolutely splendid! Congratulations to the musicians! Pure warmth and emotion!
Beautiful.....both the music and the artist. Perfection.
The recital room is very beautiful.
To Liz and her beautiful family and niece. May your tears turn into diamonds.
Bless.
To know she played this sincerely from memory speaks incredible volumes of her passion and dedication to this beautiful masterpiece…I am forever in awe with this composition, and this became the highlight of a favorite song ♥️♥️♥️
This is so beautiful. I'm named after this music
That’s so Cool!!!
Wow that must be great that your parents also love classical music
Dang that’s awesome
wait thats so cool i love ur name
What does your name originally mean?
My very talented Uncle Richard played this piece many years ago in India when we were kids, but only later realised its full beauty...Yes it brings tears as memories flood back.........
I am learning this at the moment - I am 11 and this has really inspired me. I do not understand the fuss about the dress as this made me feel like I was in heaven!
Yes! Described perfectly 👌🏼 - @greendayfan782 you will go on to be extraordinary ✨️ I can tell ❤
This is one of my absolute favorite pieces for the violin EVER…it is so unimaginably beautiful. This is a Breathtaking performance of one of the best compositions of all time.❤️ amazing job, ladies!
Very heavenly, so different, like a tune that belongs to another world
Great version of an amazing piece! I mostly play guitar and electric violin rock, blues, fusion etc. professionally but still revisit the great classics on a regular basis for inspiration! The great composers and exponents of their work definitely 'plug into' something very spiritual. ❤
Can,t believe that at 75 years of age beautiful Violin music still makes tears roll down my cheeks ❤️
You can FEEL this music. I have a small few pieces of classical music that truly make me feel everything the composers MUST have been feeling, to make music like this......that's what they wanted everyone to feel when they listened ❤❤❤
she was almost gonna cry, she is so passionate with the music she doing,i appreciate it,congratulations
So peaceful, undisturbed, and welcoming. Thank you.
