  • One week almost to the minute of me finding my Quarter Gold Noble at #detectival last Sunday,…..
Martyn…. Detecting for a mere 9 months…. only goes and outdoes me by finding is first gold hammered coin back on my fields in Scotland, what we think may be a FULL GOLD NOBLE, possibly of Edward IV of England from the 1460’s 🤩
And he’s only been detecting for 9 months!!!!!
    WHAT A FIND !!!!
And thanks to Cleggy for his initial help trying to identify in the field!! 😊
Pete’s still convinced it’s a Milk bottle top or Lucozade top!! Thank god Marty didn’t chuck it straight into the weeds and brought it to me to look at first !!!

Good finds.. That folded Gold coin, I'd say it's been folded by farming instruments, and so the discoloration on the edge would be from rubbing on the plow! That's my guess and I'M sticken to it. This is my first time seeing your video. Will look for more. Thumbs up!!

There should be a law that until you recognize a gold coin, you aren't allowed to find them. You reminded me of a couple of things. First, strangely my thistles are not up. They usually are blooming by this time. Temps still in the 90's until Wednesday when a cool front blows through and drops to the upper 80's. So it's very late for the thistles....and almost sweating to see you all in hoodies. Second thing is that Wallace Simpson and I are distant cousins. Her mother was a Montague and so is my 2nd great g'mother.

I'm with Peter on this, and I know you can't tell with pictures but it looks very dull for hammered gold and almost sure the edges are dark where the gold plating has rubbed off and the silver has oxidised. I also suspect that is why its been deliberately folded in such a way. I hope I'm wrong but a very interesting and rare find if it is indeed a counterfeit.

What a cracking hunt! The George II was cool, even the pin was pretty cool, but that gold coin: WOW! I agree: gonna need a follow-up vid once you get it (professionally!) straightened.
You make running commentary about "spendable" vs. not. Has the British gov't actually de-valued past currency? Here in the U.S., I could dig an 18th century large cent and still legally spend it (even though I wouldn't, of course). I don't think ANY of our money has been de-valued, except of course the Confederate States coinage (which is a country that no longer exists, naturally). Interesting stuff!

I think you'll find that the copper coin with the dint is a William III, defaced, bent and stamped with a wee cross in spite of the death penalty, a love token.

Did Martin have 2 pints of lager before detecting as you did last weekend before finding GOLD ?... I'm glad you said you would have coin professionally straightened out. It is always tempting to straighten in the field. I hope it is not a chocolate coin wrapper!!!!! Cheeeeeeeeeers

As someone else mentioned, I thought plated Silver too as Gold is Gold. Great find nonetheless.

We’ll know for sure once the coins been straightened, weighed and properly examined. Hopefully three weeks or so and we’ll know for sure!

It looks like an old clothes iron, used to heat them on a fire or stove, looks like the round hole could of been where the handle was attatched
