- 750,000 television spots, 5,000 movie trailers, 1 voice, Don LaFontaine has the most recognizable voice in the game right now. Here is the legend's story told by none other than the legend himself.
R.I.P. Don LaFontaine (1940-2008)
Hey everyone this is Skye LaFontaine, Don's daughter. Just wanted to say thank you for all the kind comments about my dad, on days when I miss him I look at videos like this and all of your comments really mean the world to me and my family. Thanks so much
Hi Skye, I worked with your father for many years and want you to know what a great person he was. He helped create so many brilliant campaigns, his voice alone could sell an idea. Don also was great at re-writing lines to make them better. I always looked forward to our studio sessions, he was kind and patient. Other guys today may imitate his sound but there will never be another DLF.
Skye Lafontaine Your dad was the man. What a legacy. You should be proud.
It must've been awesome being with your dad...I always had a dream of your dad narrating my life's story...He's amazing
I found his voice so relaxing an reminds me of my childhood dat i miss
He was Voice of my childhood hearing it everytime brings back a flood of happy nostalgic memories! Your dad was a real legend!
This man was the voice of the 90s.
And 2000s
And 80's
This Summer......
I remember
@@synthoelectroClassic!
I love that it was his NATURAL VOICE.
I was expecting him to be kinda normal with his voice then he opens up and like WTF
Imagine going to a diner with him, and he orders lunch.

Viacom will not be the same without Don LaFontaine. Who will do the Viacom voice now? 😢
Mom, I'll *help you with the dishes.*
MystyrNile there's always that quote comment that attracts 150 likes.
*Jimmy can't come to school today because he's not feeling very well*
all his quotes should be in bold.
Highlight the i'll help you with the dishes ,part with gold because thats the day he got given a gift from god.
Yeah, we watched the video too
They actually forgot to do a tribute to this guy at the Oscars...seriously. Whether he was part of the academy or not, make a tribute to the voice who sparked curiosity to your movies, legendary or shitty. YOU OWE HIM!
Appreciate you saying that!
No surprise, the Oscars only highlights mediocrity
That's about as bad a cockup as Disney failing to put Mickey Mouse front and center for their 100th year anniversary. That could have been an infinite money glitch but uhhh Diversity?
"In a world..."
R.I.P Don we hardly knew you...or actually maybe we did.
Jesus Ortiz who's gonna be thunder throat without him?
Not that anyone could really replace "the Don", but voice actor Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) would be my first choice. He's got a very similar voice and honestly I think that he would be the only one that could pull it off and do it justice.
NY Times did a fantastic profile on him years ago
I miss Don. Trailers will never be the same. :(
My dad was cool I sing u may check me out
Ever hear Hal Douglas's voice? His voice was even deeper and more powerful than Don's....NO DISRESPECT for Don but it was.
@@CAT-ke2lv I just had a look and I’m sorry but you’re objectively wrong. I’m not a super fan of either so I’m relatively unbiased and Don’s voice is deeper, noticeably too.
We have Redd Pepper, who sounds quite similar.
Honest Trailers is the best impression of him +comedy
This guy could make you interested in seeing the shittiest movie just because his voice makes the trailer interesting.
You are goddamn right
Alvin Elmore As they say nowadays, IKR.
Alvin Elmore This summer, Alvin Elmore is... The Guy who's comments get upvoted! Rated R.
AFGalwayz
LMAO
AFGalwayz best. reply. EVER!
(and I think we all read that in Don's voice)
Some high school students of mine got the idea to have DonLaFontaine narrate their documentary films a couple years ago. I told them it wouldn't hurt to ask, but don't expect him to even respond. His response was very curt -- "send me the script." two days later, the students received an mp3 of the legend himself narrating their scripts!!!!!!!! What a guy.
The man who inspired the Honest Trailers voice guy lol
Not just a deep voice, but a pleasure to hear. Let's be honest, this guy has (had) the best voice in modern history.
James Earl Jones is up there. Especially the breath of Vader. Ha!
This man was the voice of the 90s and 2000s.
I didn't know his name until today, I had to Google the voice for my kid to see 90s commercials.
As a movie lover, hearing his voice gives me such nostalgia.
The way he said "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" was so badass
As a child of the 90's I will always remember his voice. Movie trailers just aren't the same anymore.
They are just music driven now but I see the voice overs coming back people still. Want to hear a basic story outline
Imagine him speaking in a McDonalds drive thru....
*I'll have a number nine... HOLD THE PICKLES....*
Imagine him speaking in a Taco Bell drive thru
*_I'll take a Doritos Locos Taco.... BUT HOLD THE CHEESE..._*
Such a legend.
He truly was

Two years ago in a world where we didn't have that comment one man brought that comment to our world
In a world, where you don't usually associate a voice with a RUclips comment, you can't help but hear this comment in your head with that trailer voice!
i actually did lol
ayyyy lmao
"In a world" is a hook for that voice IMO.
+James Smith OMG YES!!!
lol i was spelling it very quietly
I just had to hear his voice every now and then...
Me to
Wow I had no idea he passed away so long ago. His voice overs were the pioneer of my childhood watching tons of movies and shows from the 90’s! He was awesome
"In a world, which is now, sadly, without The Legend, Dan La Fontaine, other voiceover artists are, finally making a buck or two...". Seriously talented man. Was funny, too. R.I.P.
"But now, there came a new man whose is so Don-LaFontaine-like, a new man whose voice can spreaded throughout all of the world. One new man - ME!" - Caleb "Big Dog" Akers
Everyone who got him to record their voicemail is so very fortunate. I hope I sound 1/4 this awesome when I'm older.
Well? Do you sound good now?
It’s been six years, any difference my man?
@@nikkogalvez969 Nope, still sound like a munchkin, lol.

May He continue to RestInPeace. 🕊️💔
His testosterone levels must of been off the charts!
moc Gage It’s “Must Have Been”, NOT “must of been”. Grammar!
As much as I love watching people correct others' spelling mistakes, you're telling him to capitalise the first letter of words in the middle of his sentence.
Well played... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had no idea this guy passed. His voice was iconic for narration in the early 2000s. He narrated EVERYTHING. From commercials, to shows, to ads. Everytime I hear his voice I get taken back to those days.
What a fantastic, sexy voice he had! Such range and power.
You heard every word he said, as though your very life depended on it.
I have heard he was a good man. He was a handsome man, too.
R.I.P., Don- have a splendid afterlife.
Make you so pumped to see the world he was talking about.. He was that good.. Even if the movie was shitty after.. R.I.P to this legendary man..

Thank you very much!!
I never really KNEW of this guy but now I see he was a hilarious and awesome dude! and the tribute to him with those other voices was pretty awesome!!! R.I.P. Mr. LaFontaine!!
I'd ready somewhere that his mantra as a voiceover artist was "Whatever I'm narrating, that's someone's favorite movie." That's why my favorite commercials he did were his ones for Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater, which always presented this obscure, quirky animated films and feature-length TV specials as if they were capital-A art, cuz that's what they were to me.
"I'm just doing this until that cashiers job at Denny's opens up actually, soon as that happens I'M GONE."
LOL
"In a world where two worlds collide..."
Now, imagine it in bold.
I remember Don's voice from so many trailers back in the day, got a real nostalgia hit from watching this. What a legend.
I miss hearing his voice work. There was nothing like it.
Man, he should have voiced a character in Transformers! Love his voice! I was so glad to hear his voice in various episodes of Family Guy. He will be missed.
I always thought that he was the voice of Optimus Prime.
Don was an absolute legend, and the main inspiration for my voiceover career. This is a wonderful vid, especially for those in the industry that remember him.
What he said behind the silver screen, echoes in eternity.
Is this a Gladiator reference?
I grew up with Don's voice echoing through my living room. I'm really lucky to have been apart, an grown up in such a cultural legacy that would soon become a part of a generation that developed so much reverence for what would become pop culture. Don's voice was always a gateway for what was next.
Don is one of the most influential and important voiceover artists we've ever had. He created an entire subgenre and countless imitators. He was incredible and gone way too soon.
We all grew up on Don. He’s an icon.
RIP Don for being my memories of cartoon networks cartoon theatre everytime I hear his voice when I watch those movies when I was a kid
My greatest inspiration, truly my dream to be like him one day.
Yea did you?
Guessing not

@@ADrunkCrayfish Oh shit, I remember watching this guy's videos back when they came out, I'm even still subscribed to the channel, I wonder what happened to him
Smh you abandoned our cause to be a viner
Such an epic voice, I would have loved to hear him read some children's stories. RIP
Movie trailers were always bigger and badder with this man's voice. I grew up in the 90's and remember his voice fondly. It was everywhere. A true legend. RIP to this man.
RIP Don, The Voice of a Generation
Growing up in the 90's, I heard his voice a LOT. Nice to see his face and hear the behind-the-scenes stuff.
He had the most distinctive voice ever, loved listening to him
He seems like such a genuine, nice guy :) R.I.P Don
rip.....growing up in the late 80s and 90s this dude got you pumped for movies...
R.I.P Don...you and your amazing voice will be missed
Now i know who the Honest Trailers guy is trying to sound like lol he should be the new voice of movie trailers.
RIP Don
***** He is. Jon Bailey has done a lot of trailers, ads, and voice matching work for big time movies and actors.
R.I.P don, we will never forget you.
the man, the myth, the voice over legend.
Movie trailers will never been the same. Ever
Mr. Fontaine I your grew up in the 80s in tv and theaters listening to him . It's not the same without him . R.I.P
I miss hearing his voice in all kinds of trailers! R.IP. King Of The Voiceovers!!

And the person who wrote that script doesn't find anything wrong with that at all LOL? Grab
+glasssofOJ Depends on the mind of the person hearing it :P
_Code Monkeys_ was an animated adult comedy; I'm sure that was intentional
He truly is the voice of my childhood who else could explain the trailer of a movie with such enthusiasm and delivery!
If so he never stopped making me laugh lol. One of a kind voice. God bless you and your family.
it was partly because of his voice why I fell in love with cinema. part of my life for sure. the world misses you, Don.
What I would give to say "Double Kill" and be threatening at the same time.
Wtf Chris Ray Gun
I randomly seek out 90s movie trailers just to listen to the guy. I always got mocked a lot in school for my deep voice so I think its hilarious that he experienced the same. I use to have teachers that would do a pretend deep voice when I talked to them thinking I was messing with them. He is literally "The Voice of" so many generations.
I miss the '90s! I wish I would hear his voice in lieu of Siri's voice sometimes…
I've actually heard deeper voices, but this man was very good and trailblazing and avoids monotony with his range. He deserves to be showcased as he has been.
He should have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame
Monotony in deep voice acting comes from the actor forcing the deepest pitch he can, thus he has no range around it. "His range" is the key here. It really was his range, whereas for his copycats it's a party trick. They can barely make it down there.
And we have recently lost Hal Douglas; 2 superb voices gone but never forgotten
Man...I miss hearing that guys voice before every movie. Sad he left us too soon :( Thank you for being there during my childhood.
I'm sure gonna miss this legendary voice over guy after a decade!
RIP Don Lafontaine! May ur voice live forever!
IN A WORLD
where we were blessed by his voice
and ever since he died trailers don't do voiceovers anymore. So rare to see a modern trailer with a voice over announcer anymore
Don LaFontaine vs Morgan freeman rap battle
nullpointer66 they should have done a movie together about voice work like a comedy lol
Geron Fletcher "In a world..." is a close one, I'd recommend it

RIP Don, you are an inspiration to all of us in the industry... and now that you're gone we can all actually work!
Definitely a big inspiration of mine! As someone who one day wants to be a voice actor, I look up to this man and appreciate how perfect and epic his voice is! R.I.P. Don LaFontaine.
Ahh. Don LaFontaine. The reason I do what I do. You are one of my heroes.
