░KenLinx░ I think it's because the big movies today are so pompus, and self-important that they feel above putting narration in the trailer. It's just so sad that we can't have big, indulgent fun anymore.
I do notice these guys seem to all have a particular sound. In fact I didn't even realize I had been hearing different people all these years/trailers.
theRealAV8r That "sound" is nick named the "radio tone", as the tone of their particular voices carry a deep, powerful, presence through a sensitive (and very expensive) microphone..It's that tone, coupled with a slightly exaggerated enunciation that gives you the "radio or TV tone" we all hear ever day..
I was doing TV spots for Universal Studios Hollywood at Margarita Mix in Hollywood around 1994 and guess who was in the session before me... none other than DLF... I knew he was in the building when I arrived... his limo was in the parking lot with the license plate DLF. He left the booth and I walked in past him and said, "Hey. Sounded great!" I finished in about 5 minutes and he was still talking with the producers and when I came out he said, "Hey! You sounded great too!" I introduced myself and we shook hands. That was a cool moment!
I wanna do this...I write trailers for movies that don't exist just so I can practice. I record all my practice trailers on reel to reel tape for that added depth. Don LaFontaine was great, but he was at his peak in the 80s during the era of analog reel to reel recording...Especially when he did a trailer for a low-budget horror movie.
Kinda doubt it. Funimation, the studio where DBZ was dubbed, is kind of special when it comes to their work. They either do stuff in house, meaning they have their own voice actors dub the series, or they have outside talent come in to play. Since DBZ was inhouse stuff. It's very unlikely that Don did the narration.
yes and no. Your whole career is invested on just your voice, and voice work is an art. They are there to really make you want something. The power of persuasion with just their voice is not as easy as it sounds (pun intended). However, once you are good, then it is easy. Getting there, not so much.
except it isn't. This is an example of 4 lucky people who got hired on by major companies(television and movie). Actually the majority of voice over artists just went on strike for not getting paid enough.
Not so.. you need: plenty of talent, you need a manager.. a good agency and a lotta luck.. and not necessarily in that order.. the guy on the news said so. .. but I imagine if you did wanna break out into the industry.. you'll need some good connections and a few hours a week practicing, and be recognised as a 'voice role'.
Theres no voice narration for trailers anymore. If there is, its just cheesy..
Why is it cheesy now ?
Well, we still have who narrates the Honest Trailers. Does that count?
░KenLinx░ I was just thinking the same thing, its become a parady of itself.
░KenLinx░ I think it's because the big movies today are so pompus, and self-important that they feel above putting narration in the trailer. It's just so sad that we can't have big, indulgent fun anymore.
BigEWR For me that definitely counts! :D
R.I.P. Don Fontaine, you were one of the best thanks for all the movies I remember your voice from
VHS Collector Kyle awwww...what did he die of?
Their voices are like God telling you, "Go see that movie".
I do notice these guys seem to all have a particular sound. In fact I didn't even realize I had been hearing different people all these years/trailers.
"The number one movie in america."

Of all the voice-over artists out there in this business, I have to say that Don LaFontaine was one of the best. And we all miss him a lot!

@@JPWesterberg That's definitely for sure.
Don Lafontaine, Hal Douglas, Percy Rodriguez, Adolph Caesar and more were legends
Fun Fact. Some of these voiceover talents also did work for news openers and radio.
The voices of these men are incredible.
In a world where movies needed publicity, one voice dared to stand alone.
#RIPDon
That's a good practice line right there. I actually pull this off pretty easily.
Damn dude I always knew about Don from him doing all the WWF Promos... No other voice like his man..
Actually there’s a whole career off of voices like that

And all they get to say now is " This Summer. Film of the year".
I feel like I'm watching Arrested Development for the first 15 seconds of this clip.
RIP Hal Douglas
These voices always start with 'In a world, ..."
Wait... there's more than one Mr Big Voice?!?!?!
"As he felt that familiar sensation, he knew what had to be done."

As a romcom lover born in the late 90's, Ben Patrick Johnson and George Del Hoya are the voices of my childhood
I recall hearing Del Hoya in a lot of TV promos.

XboxAhoy has a voice that's smooth like butter.
thats amazing! i always wanted to k.ow who.did.all those voice overs, thats so cool!
Don LaFontaine had the kind of voice most real men would want.
NO, that would be James Earl Jones (or Benedict Cumberbatch!)
I think I speak for everyone in a damn world when I say I wish I could make millions from home talking into a microphone in a badass voice
lol iv always wanted to see these guys
One man, one desire...

Ben has the prefect fake talking head to go with his voice.
George: it's a terrific date movie.
Cederine: They are the wonderwomen of 2004.
Don: it's the best of Seinfeld.
Ben: Sleepover. Rated PG.

I wonder who does the
Voice Trailers for
Hawaii Five-0 series,which
Ended season 10😢😭
0:47 Don LaFontaine, the man behind the voices of movie previews.
He gets paid by the word... I repeat, by the word...
Sounds like the guy who did the intro to renegade with Lorenzo Lamas
Hal Douglas really needs to be mentioned not far after Don LaFontaine. It's a shame he's not represented here in this short bit.

00:23 That is exactly what I imagined that guy looking like
@salcal522 Yeah. ^^ Peter Cullen should do commercials.
If Optimus Prime tried to sell me something, hell, I'd buy it.
RIP Don LaFomtaine
Very Cool!
I love this!!
Easiest million-making job on the fucking planet.
well... there are the Kardashians.... but I am not quite dure if that is classified as "job"
except it isn't. This is an example of 4 lucky people who got hired on by major companies(television and movie). Actually the majority of voice over artists just went on strike for not getting paid enough.

"plenty of talent of course, a strong sample reel, a great agent, and... A lot of luck."

John Beard
Dont let that chick do it
I should be getting paid already, if that's the case. >.>
I was wondering why today’s movie trailers lacked narrations.
They're all on my hit list.
0:22 - 0:24 sound exactly the same!!!
