You’re probably thinking of Don LaFontaine, who was the voice of more than 5,000 trainers from the 60s onwards. He is the guy who pioneered the deep movie trailer guy voice and the phrase “in a world…” Redd is definitely a worthy successor though.
You can apply this to virtually anything we do or accomplish in life - Where you end up is largely a function of luck. I was trying to get in to VO for a long time but I have always been a vocalist (singer) instead of my voice going down, it went up. Probably to tighter vocal cords. At the time I was trying to get in to VO, the late great Don LaFontaine was my mentor. True story. Redd Pepper is amazing. I love that voice.
