Dude, your dedication to your viewers is just... amazing. LoL. That was A LOT of work for something you are not interested in personally. You need to run for president...
I'm so glad the third party is starting to move into the Beast Wars MPs. Granted, I don't remember much about the show but I have fond memories of my grandparents recording episodes for me on VHS to watch when I visited. Might just have to pick up this guy for nostalgia if he's still available.
Thanks for the review! I was on the fence with this figure but after seeing this review and reading comments on the forms I will definitely pick this up. March is turning out to be a very expensive month with this figure, metal build gundam F91, Macross DX Draken, and Master Made Scorpion.
Fantastic review bro!!! Thanks for taking one for the team. I really hoped youd review this. I really like the character but wasn't sure if the figure. It looks a lot better than the original but my God that transformation. I could never do it. I'd put the thing through a wall. So thanks for saving me some money. Maybe one day I'll have balls big enough to tackle this lol.
Man, that looks so sweet. I have no real interest in the other two modes, wish they weren't there to add to the clunk factor. Robot and gorilla look absolutely gorgeous, though. While I zero vested interest in the character, toy design wise this seriously speaks to me.
Great review, dude! Do you recommend it? YES! Do I want to buy it? NOPE! LOL! This is giving me flasbacks, Bobby! Im reliving the entire Takara MP-05 Megs transformation by watching this, and I think Im going to cry again... Whats the number for the mental institution? Figures like this is what really bad nightmares are made of! It makes me want to start collecting 1 step changers...
I loved Beast Wars, Loved Optimal Optimus, and Love his "ridiculous" extra vehicle modes. I kinda hate when people review things they don't even like, because it will usually come off a bit negative by default. Hopefully I won't find the transformation so frustrating when I get mine. I definitely think this thing looks great. My biggest question is whether or not his forearm panels can attach to his upper shoulders like they did sometimes in the show in robot mode. Looking at those hinges it looks like they could form the shield wall he made in the show once too. If so, that'd be a big bonus for those of us that love BW and this character.
they can. and it should be the opposite, in my opinion, when a reviewer looks at a character they don't like and STILL recommends it that should; theoretically, give even more credit to the critique... in my opinion anyway.
Thanks for answering about the shoulder armor plates. Can't wait to see how that looks (assuming you mean they can attach to upper shoulders and form the shield wall). I do see the merit in a critique by someone who doesn't like the subject but I think anyone who is looking to buy the figure is probably a fan. Fans will usually pick apart faults or give praise specifically based on what matters most to fans, and might not be bothered my nuances that non-fans find dumb or frustrating. Fans would also be more likely to cover things the figure can do like show accurate configurations. No disrespect intended to you or or review though. :)
Yeah the vehicle modes were always kind of a mess because in the show Optimal Optimus is the result of Optimus Primal's transmetal body holding his and Optimus Prime's sparks and it caused his body to assimilate some of Prime's physical traits (truck mode) and personality traits (such as using some of Prime's catchphrases)
It's cool to see you went Westcott Non-Shatter! I had the original Optimal Optimus and I liked it quite a bit as a toy, but I must admit, those vehicle alt mode thingies, for lack of better terms, in my opinion suck horribly and ultimately fail. But since I never kept mine in any of those modes, it's whatever. Another super fantastic review my man and they're right, stop monkeying around! ;)
Love your review. Just picked this guy up and am stunned with the sculpt and paint. I know you're big on paint - any others of this caliber (esp. paint) that you recommend? I can't think of a MP I own with this level of detailed paint work and finish and want to start adding more of this quality
Good Review. was hoping you'd review this. Being a beast wars fan i would of preferred a a Transmetal 2 Dragon Megatron, original sux in robot mode. I always enjoyed my optimal optimus.
Great review! Did you ever get to handle the Takara Diaclone/Diabattles stuff? Beast Wars lore aside, Optimal Optimus was also kinda meant to be a Diaclone homage and his modes and general design really have a lot of parallels. Is pretty neat to see.
If there's a meetup I'll be sure to bring them. Easily my favorite figure of 2016. Smallish (about the height of a MP Car) and pricey, but possibly among the best figures Takara has ever put out. Sharp paint, tons of accessories, fantastic articulation and a gimmick that actually impresses.
Not really a beast wars fan but i love all of Optimus versions in it so its a must buy for me. Think of the car n jet as bonuses/fan made modes instead of actually official alt modes.
Good/fair review ! I am interested in but wonder what repaint PE could come with on this character (I hate this orange and blue scheme paint... Bring a dark version) :p
I've always been confused why the arms didn't form thrusters under the wings. Have the forearms fold into the biceps and bam, grey parts forming kibble be gone. Then if the back legs pull a cw and you have a jet with feet sticking out the back.
I remember watching Beast Wars as a kid, but I don't think I went into the 3rd season where we saw this version of Optimal, least I don't remember seeing this version in the show, it was SOOO long ago. lol
I know you're very clear on the fact it's unimportant since you don't know the character, but a lot of the flaws here come from the fact the character design wasn't well thought out as far as alt modes go. That being said, I am VERY surprised they changed the jet mode, since the hands were originally designed to be pointing forward in jet mode instead of tucked back like here. That being said, I remember your Leonidas review and your whos-who review, does this toy suffer from the same fragility and "only for display" factor you previously mentioned with Perfect Effect? It looks a bit more play-friendly, aside from that thin waist joint that reminds me of Fansproject's Diesel.
if you knew the charactors design in the show you would know why it has 4 modes, my only issue is it isnt as accurate to the shows transformation as i hoped for, but i can look around that since im a huge beast wars fan and the series is finally being aknowleged again by both MP and 3rd party
Yeah man, the truck and jet modes are just Transmetal ancillary modes. Almost none of those Transmetal vehicle modes are actually that cohesive. I dont mind them at all, but they aren't really meant to be primary modes. I think the original toy did the truck mode pretty well though.
Yeah, the idea of Transmetals was that they had a robot mode, a beast mode, and a third mode that was more like a transport mode. Like, Cheetor's third mode is just his cheetah mode with booster jets flipped out. Think of it as less like a quad changer and more like a standard figure that can grow wings or wheels.
AcanLord actually the reason for this having vechille modes is because originally the story was going to be that the spark could take on a human form and pilot the vechille modes.
hey im 37 i thought I was the oldest guy here LOL. I think he looks great but its too soon to be getting mp style beast wars figures when there are still so many G1 figures that could get the mp treatment.
Yea. I understand that. It is funny rewatching how they did sprinkle in the old. Starscream in jet mode, Starscream's spark, the Arc with the Autobots in it, and that jerk who was a casette tape that got a robot mode then defected from the Maximals because of long live Decepticons.
I'm sure they are show accurate, but I hate the wings hanging off the side. Also is it just me or do those colors give off a mashup of Rodimus Prime and Optimus Prime type vibe? I kept thinking it the whole time.
great review as always sir skull. Big fan of telling it how it is. Just saw a thirty minute review on mp-36 Megatron. transformation & all that thing is a hot mess. Anyone who was smart enough to snag maketoys probably has the best version of him. Can't wait to see your review of him. Again thanks for the hard work you put into all these. Big fan.
He looks great and I'd love to have him but I have to draw the line someplace..... Those vehicle mode were always going to be goofy, I never really liked them on the original toy either.
Funny you like the jet mode the most, as it is the least accurate to the show and original toy. The other modes look very accurate to the show and makes them look way better if you have any connection to Beast Wars.
Yep. His arms are supposed to be pointing straight out with fists balled up. Such a weird design, but this toy looks just like the show. I watched all of Beast Wars, but never got into Beast Machines really. Tried jumping into it at one point back in the day, and was completely lost where i didn't know the plot at the time.
Amazing. Just like the original. The most complicated one. Optimus Primal's spark touched Optimus's spark and well that is how the form came. Damn Megatron, blow torching Optimus Prime so Maximals never exist and Decepticons win on day one.
Kevin Vernal leonidas(and repaints) has joints that are tight in an annoying way that sometimes feels like it is stronger than the plastic itself. Which makes it feel like you are going to break the figure when you move certain joints. Leonidas kinda has too much articulation for his own good which makes him very fiddly to pose. This guy’s joints are deliciously tight and it utilizes lots of nice ratchets rather than tight ball joints on the leonidas.
I know this is old as shit, but if I remember, jet mode actually looked WORSE in the cartoon. If memory serves correct, his hands just straight up point forward completely exposed. "Optimal Optimus"...the fuck?!?
i can tell tat u r not a very patience man....maybe u should not be involve with transformers...clearly they are not meant for you....probably should just stick to starwars or gijoe .....
Dude, your dedication to your viewers is just... amazing. LoL. That was A LOT of work for something you are not interested in personally. You need to run for president...
hahaha yea i took one for the team on that one lol
I'm so glad the third party is starting to move into the Beast Wars MPs. Granted, I don't remember much about the show but I have fond memories of my grandparents recording episodes for me on VHS to watch when I visited. Might just have to pick up this guy for nostalgia if he's still available.
cant put a price on nostalgia
Thanks for the review! I was on the fence with this figure but after seeing this review and reading comments on the forms I will definitely pick this up. March is turning out to be a very expensive month with this figure, metal build gundam F91, Macross DX Draken, and Master Made Scorpion.
yikes!
Monday morning Skullface consumed, NOW I'm ready to get some work done.
astartespete lol
hhahaha

lol my pleasure
14:04 "unfortunately it doesn't stop there..."
my reaction through out most of Season 3 of Beast Wars lol
Fancy seeing you here...again...christ how do you keep showing up?! ARE YOU STALKING ME?!
Y-Yes.
hahahahhaah
I love it every time your kids sass you in your skits. Is this how real life works?
definitely
Kinda like the beast mode. Shared on TF3PUK as usual. Great review buddy 🇬🇧
many thanks
Man, that looks so sweet. I have no real interest in the other two modes, wish they weren't there to add to the clunk factor. Robot and gorilla look absolutely gorgeous, though. While I zero vested interest in the character, toy design wise this seriously speaks to me.
the car mode is a complete wash lol
What even is that?! Who thought that was OK to approve?! lol
The things you do for me. . . is why you are number one in my book!!
blushes
The partsforming forearm-bits were on the original figure too. Also they can attach to the shoulders for robot mode it seems.
there you have it
Great review, dude! Do you recommend it? YES! Do I want to buy it? NOPE! LOL! This is giving me flasbacks, Bobby! Bubbeh ....You sound so thrilled dude. Is it mean that I hope some die hard Beast War fan loans you all his toys 2 review.?? Haha.
hahahaha

I'll add this to the list of things that I can't afford but want.
lol i have that list as well
Nice to see a figure where his arm can reach across it's chest.
agreed
I really like Hasbro's version. similar but still works for me. overall not bad. I might end up getting to compare. thanks skull.
thanks for watching
Very impressive paint and quality built
agreed
Love your review. Just picked this guy up and am stunned with the sculpt and paint. I know you're big on paint - any others of this caliber (esp. paint) that you recommend? I can't think of a MP I own with this level of detailed paint work and finish and want to start adding more of this quality
there other pieces are painted just as well
This is on my to get lost. love the beast wars. I have all the figures both hasbro and destroy bit this is a masterpiece. love it.
enjoy!
Good Review. was hoping you'd review this.
Being a beast wars fan i would of preferred a a Transmetal 2 Dragon Megatron, original sux in robot mode. I always enjoyed my optimal optimus.
thanks for watching
I love that they called it Gorira. In my mind i hear it being said by Oscar.
dude!!!! me too
Billy Ess ...YASSSSSS
I like this version just liking the price that's asked for thid figure Gorira
Obi great review. Love the original toy, his looks great nit sure this is enough of an improvement to but this guy
Obv is what I meant lol..
if you love the character i HIGHLY recommend it
Great review! Did you ever get to handle the Takara Diaclone/Diabattles stuff? Beast Wars lore aside, Optimal Optimus was also kinda meant to be a Diaclone homage and his modes and general design really have a lot of parallels. Is pretty neat to see.
i have not

copy that
"I can see why I chose to forget this" lol
;)
The gun is "quite easy to get in" with "no so to speak"?! Bobby... hahaha
Great review dude.
haha
the absurdity and the parts forming are both accurate.
there you have it
I'm a prime collector. never saw this guy b4. do u recommend?
Good/fair review !
I am interested in but wonder what repaint PE could come with on this character (I hate this orange and blue scheme paint... Bring a dark version) :p
How about an Optimus Prime color version? (like the original toy into Primal Prime) That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they do a black version...
they usually do one repaint of each mold so im sure theyll come up with something
I've always been confused why the arms didn't form thrusters under the wings. Have the forearms fold into the biceps and bam, grey parts forming kibble be gone. Then if the back legs pull a cw and you have a jet with feet sticking out the back.

Bobby Skullface L lol
G1 Smokescreen he was there in the show.

no fragility issues her, which was nice

yea im familiar with it, im just dont care for it lol
Not for me, but I can't deny it looks really cool.
same
Panel by the head on the front if you open it the spark chamber is there
cool
Really great skid :D
:)
Great review Bobby. Maybe if we fed him some bananas, he would transform easier.
his transformation drove me bananas ;)
great reviews, thx
thanks for watching

LMFAOL! every time Bobby, silver n gold 👈
hahahahaha
the piece looks great as far as paint and stuff but I just can't get into the beast thing. I'm 41 and old so I gues G1 is all i understand.
hey im 37 i thought I was the oldest guy here LOL. I think he looks great but its too soon to be getting mp style beast wars figures when there are still so many G1 figures that could get the mp treatment.
Paul Graham exactly old man. lol. I have alot of G1 mp to scarf up myself. Yea iv been the oldest nerd I know since 1985.
Jeremy Pickard I'm different. Beast rules, cars were the weird ones. Got used to them and know cars were first but still.... I miss Beast Wars.
CNFunnyJon to each his own. iv just been big on these toys since day 1 and by the time this came along I was set on what I knew.
Yea. I understand that. It is funny rewatching how they did sprinkle in the old. Starscream in jet mode, Starscream's spark, the Arc with the Autobots in it, and that jerk who was a casette tape that got a robot mode then defected from the Maximals because of long live Decepticons.
I'm really ready to pawn my car title to get the megatron mp.
I'm sure they are show accurate, but I hate the wings hanging off the side. Also is it just me or do those colors give off a mashup of Rodimus Prime and Optimus Prime type vibe? I kept thinking it the whole time.
the wings get in the way fairly often during transforming on camera as well lol which was frustrating
great review as always sir skull. Big fan.
thanks man, im looking forward to reviewing that as well
An IDW Megatron could make for a good repaint.
I wish Perfect Effect had stayed with the IDW inspired stuff like their Fort Max
me too
He looks great and I'd love to have him but I have to draw the line someplace.....
Those vehicle mode were always going to be goofy, I never really liked them on the original toy either.
i hear you
KFC SkyByte sighting!
;)
Can the Arm Guards attach to his upper shoulder like in the show?
yes
dang it I was hoping you would say it's shit now I have to get him
hahahaha sorry
Funny you like the jet mode the most, as it is the least accurate to the show and original toy. The other modes look very accurate to the show and makes them look way better if you have any connection to Beast Wars.
primeoetgrunn pretty sure you can get the arms out in front to make it accurate.
hahaha isnt that awesome, even what i like isnt related to something that doesnt speak to me aesthetically
Yep. His arms are supposed to be pointing straight out with fists balled up. Such a weird design, but this toy looks just like the show. I watched all of Beast Wars, but never got into Beast Machines really. Tried jumping into it at one point back in the day, and was completely lost where i didn't know the plot at the time.
HOLY!!!!
Amazing. Just like the original. The most complicated one. Optimus Primal's spark touched Optimus's spark and well that is how the form came. Damn Megatron, blow torching Optimus Prime so Maximals never exist and Decepticons win on day one.
glad you enjoyed it
I got tired just watching you transform that thing, yikes! Also, kids saying puns is never not funny! Good work Bobby
thanks for watching
here he is my little guy isnt he cute
lol
yeah its a funny short song primal sing when he got hit by some virus thingy
woooo
hotness
:)
Bobby Skullface L decided to get 1 last month, dunno why i didnt get it sooner, its badass
quality same as Leonidas and Xerxes?
id say its on par. been awhile since I handled leonidas
I still have the original Optimal Optimus.
nice
I know this is old as shit, but if I remember, jet mode actually looked WORSE in the cartoon. If memory serves correct, his hands just straight up point forward completely exposed. "Optimal Optimus"...the fuck?!?
I would've given up after ape mode. he doesn't need 4 forms.....
agreed
I hate that this is a thing and I have to have it! sigh. #Thirdpartylife
hahahah
This looks like a pain to transform. I like a hard transformation, but this is straight unpleasant.
that one assembly is frustrating to deal with in all modes
Two daughters at that age? Poor bastard.
and 3 total lol
i can tell tat u r not a very patience man....maybe u should not be involve with transformers...clearly they are not meant for you....probably should just stick to starwars or gijoe .....
