I’ve honestly been having this toy for about 15 plus years and I had no idea it had another head lol I’ve always had him in the closet but I remember being a kid being like I swear he had another head but just gave up but something made me look him up on RUclips and this video popped up and I took the steps and boooooom!! I transformed him!! I was extremely happy seeing him transform to the last transformation been long over due thanks for the help!

Awesome review wish I still had my Optimal Optimus. Just wanted to mention 2 things you forgot 1. The eyes on the ape head also light up when you lineup the cannons scope with the head. 2. The legs are suppose to be fully extended in jet mode and the fins on the legs are suppose to be bent at a 45 degree angle to look more like stabilizer wings, and the feet are suppose to be straight to act as the boosters in jet mode. I totally agree with you on the cannons in robot mode the fact that they always just stick out like that drove me nuts as a kid.
I used the original instructions for this review but one thing I've learned about this figure is that everyone seems to have their own "right way" of transforming it. Over the years I've gotten many "that should go there instead" comments, more than any other figure. It seems there is no right or wrong way about it anymore.
I did overtook the light up eyes though.

Nice review, i still have mine from a kid in great condition. I plan on putting a sound chip in his backpack to say lines from the show.
One correction though, at least in the US, this guy was $50 at release. The mega class was around $20 and this was a Super class. Me being me, i used to budget what i asked for for xmas, lol.

This was (and still is) one of the more awesome Optimus figures. Can you perhaps review next the 2007 Movie Nightwatch Leader Optimus Prime (if you haven't done so already) please Bert?

20 bucks was the Ultra price point, which included figures like T-Rex Megs and the combiners. Optimal Optimus was 30 I believe because he was a larger price point figure, the only one in the beast wars line. It might have been named Supreme, but that name could have been used for the ridiculously huge Cheetor from Beast Machines.

I received this as a gift 20 years ago. Always loved it. Today I gave it to my little cousin as a gift. I sent his father this video so they have a good reference on how to transform him. Thumbs up.

Kinda sucks to have the turret sticking out all the time in Robot mode. Also, the cockpit of his truck/jet should go a little further up to be more show accurate!

The cockpit actually comes out forward and down over the wheel in truck mode, I used to have that toy as a kid.
You also didn't show that under the ape head is a little black square, if you rub it, it reveals the Autobot symbol.
I did miss showing the rub symbol but I transformed it exactly as the instructions show.
This is a very particular figure in that everyone seems to have their own "right way" of doing it.

Guys, make sure you don’t twist the waist too hard or it will break, I learned it the hard way. Since most old beast wars toys are pretty loose

Heads up about twisting the waist. If the back cock out is pressed in it might wear down the hole it goes in. Mine broke as a kid.
The middle sight if placed directly behind the gorilla head will end up shining through the eyes. You can see the back head is clear plastic for that reason.
As a kid I would peg in the wrists first then push in the shoulders. I also moved the cock pit forward to cover his abs, and the cannon goes down as well, it pivots a lot easier this way too.
I forget what mode I used it in, gorilla I think? You can separate the cannons in half. There’s a trigger to split them. That way they aren’t so imbalanced.
Heads up about storage.
I have the original toy still but the joint are all loose now (not stored that way), so some how being in my garage messed them up. So either the cold or the hot weather messed it up.

I wanted this thing forever when I was a kid and I think they took them down to 9.95 on black friday at Toys R US and I got it one year for my Birthday. this thing was awesome probably the coolest transformer toy I ever had and the one I wish I would have kept.

I just found one of these near complete and with minimal chrome wear, he's missing the rifle and his joints are insanely stiff. But for $55 I had to get it, Beast Wars is my obsession...Only thing is I totally underestimated the sheer size of this guy. Really, he is now the biggest figure I own, bigger than Devastator or Primus.

This guy is pretty fun, though I heard that there might be some breakage issues on the wheels and the turret (as well as the battery cover) which might be Gold Plastic Syndrome. Also, that chrome really looks like it'll chip endlessly like most of the chromed BW and BM toys. Still, a really enjoyable figure.

its not an official mode for the toy but I kept mine in Jet-truck mode which is just the truck mode with the legs, cockpit, and wings extended like jet mode but the arms and wheel still out and connected like truck mode it was so much fun.

19:35 it was always different in the show. He had it on his forearms and his shoulders. But in the last episode, he didn't have it at all (but only 2 scens). Just got this guy today, I've been getting a lot of the older BW figures from ebay lately like Silverbolt, Transmetal 1&2 Cheetor, Bantor, 10th anniversary Primal and now this guy. I have the POTP one but this is way bigger.

I got this toy the Christmas it came out(and still have it) and it was over $100 at Wal-Mart. I know because every time I went to Wal-Mart I stayed in the toy section for a couple hours while my mom shopped and we did this every Friday. Beast Wars was by far my favorite show and toys at the time and I had every single one my local Wal-Mart and Kmart got in, normal and Transmetals. I also got allowance and spent it on these toys most of the time. When this Optimal Optimas came out I immediately wanted it of course but it was either right at or just over $100 in Wal-Mart and Kmart so I had to wait until Christmas for it. Hell the original and Transmetal versions of Optimas cost more than $20, and so did Megatron. Optimal was the biggest and most complicated Beast War toy of the line so there's no way it was gonna cost less than other smaller toys. I know all the online stuff says it was $20 but in my local stores it absolutely cost way more. I was a kid when this came out and very much into these toys and knew how much they all cost because I was buying them 1 or 2 a week and this one in particular was the best of the line and I drooled over it until Christmas because I didn't have the self control to save up the $100 to get it myself lol. Maybe my local stores upped the price because it was so popular or something or maybe they did it for the upcoming holiday season I'm not sure. I actually like your grey rifle better than my orange one but I gotta keep it original lol. It fits very snug on the cannon to where you can't even shake it off though. My arm shields also are super tight and it's actually hard to get them to blow off they're so tight. Btw my 4yr old son and even my older daughters, including one that's 13, love playing with all of my Beast War toys and they all say they are much better than anything in the stores today, both in quality and features.
TFW2005 toy database has original retail listed at $19.99. A Google search for "Optimal Optimus Original Price" gets the same results, and an image search of the original box finds several examples of boxes with K.B.Toys tags still on them marked at $19.99.
I'm very careful to look this stuff up before filming and in cases where I can't find anything solid I'll state that I'm guessing at the price and ask that viewers comment and let me know.
Maybe the price difference could be a regional thing? Remember Cybertron Supreme Starscream came out 7 years later, was more than twice the size of Optimal Optimus, and it originally retailed for $50.

The entire reason I had to wait until Christmas was because it cost so much because I got $20 a week in allowance. I also had the box for it until just a couple years ago when I last moved but threw it out because it had gotten crushed. I wish I had taken a picture cause it still had the price sticker on it. I guess I can just chalk it up to me living in a wealthy small town and there was no competition and no real internet shopping to buy it from either so they could get away with it. I also got this big micromachine foldout van playset that cost like $75 at my Wal-Mart and apparently it was way less at the one in Nashville. And during the Tickle me Elmo and Furby crazes they hiked up the prices for those also when others didn't.
Whereabouts in TN? I used to live in Clarksville, worked at the Toys R Us there right in front of Governor's Square Mall and used to drive a Limo in Nashville on the weekends.
