Its shimano or nothing for me. Ive been through lews, 13 fishing, diawas, and abu garcias and none of them compare to shimano. It is the standard that all other casting reels are graded on and compared to.
Hope Matt and his dad are good. Good video Tim. Been binge watching all your stuff to do my little part to help and to learn some new technics. Really enjoy the Smallie clear water vids!
I am amazed that people don't understand you never need to adjust the brake on a Curado DC reel. In fact, it will mess your reel up by changing the factory setting. If you do a You tube search for tackle warehouse and Curado DC overview, the Shimano rep will make this very clear. You also still need to lightly thumb the DC reel when casting.
Three things: 1. I hope Matt has a speedy recovery & enjoys his "used" DC reel. 2. I get skeptical every time I hear "almost no backlashing." 3. Fans, (some of you) please stop arguing about go fund me pages. It's human nature for good people to offer help. There is no shame in that. However, it is shameful to be a douche to people who are concerned about a survivor & the well being of his family. Let's get back to Bassin'...'nuff said...
Training with my first baitcaster? Now that I got my first baitcaster ever, the Curado DC, what's the best line and lure to use for the sole purpose of learning. I am happy to just sit at the dock for a few 1000 casts, not trying to fish, but just Practice, Practice, Practice. What line and lure should I practice with?
The face you made at 5:07 when reacting to the sound was the same face my girlfriend made when she heard the price lol. Good thing she likes fishing😂 great video Tim.
Glad I saw this episode. I bought the curado dc and it just became my favorite reel. This thing is fantastic. You can’t make it backlash. I’m replacing all my casting reels with the curado dc.
I appreciate the effort you and Matt put into telling us about all the different tackle! There is just so much to choose from now days. If nothing else it gives us a feel for what we we are looking for. I spent a lifetime fishing the Gulf of Mexico so I am now having to re-learn bass fishing and OH has it ever changed in the selection of tackle available! As an old fart I had to learn the whole transition from mono to fluoro and braid fishing saltwater now I prefer the finesse side of freshwater fishing and doing things the bass don't see 100s of times a day. To each their own as I just like to fish for enjoyment and if I happen to catch a big one I let it go. This new Shimano is an amazing reel for the price! I'm glad they brought the digital reels back to the American market.
Just played with the Curado DC at my local tackle shop; wow, a true game changer. I have mostly Garcia Revo MGX but was impressed with the DC. If I end up homeless its because the wife threw me out of the house for replacing all of my Revos.
Just a question, why do you need such a high number pound braid (65) in a lake? I mean, don’t they use those high numbers for catching tunas and whatnot ? But for a lake? And also, can you use this reel for saltwater?
That reel looks so tempting but 250 for one of them. I’m not necessarily a noobie at bait caster but at the same time I don’t use it enough to be 100% comfortable with them either. Don’t know if I can utilize it fully. Do you guys recommend this reel for someone who’s noobie?
As usual Tim, you've done The Best video I've seen regarding the new Shimano 150DC and I've been a Shimano user for 50 years... Best Wishes for Matt and his family, and I'm happy to contribute to help recover. 🙏😇🙏💯
I'm getting ready to get my first mid range cost rod and reel and wanted your opinion I've fished Abu Garcia , lews , and shimano along time ago I'm 200 to 250 is my budget which of the 3 Would you suggest also thinking of the dc as well
be honest when you put the drag to the max did it make a weird sound. My Curado DC with 30lb braid when i put it close to topping out the drag it makes a weird sound when i pull the drag to check it. does the reel sometimes not make that cool sound that the DC has in mid cast and makes a weird unpleasant sound. My Curado DC does both those things. I bought it brand new a few weeks ago and only used a few times. please if your reading this be honest.
Tim, do you think the 150 DC is just as durable as the 200 K? I try and keep it simple and only keep two rods/two reels in my arsenal. Thanks to an earlier video I pulled the trigger on two Curado K's and couldn't be happier! They're definitely absolute workhorses and I've that found as long as I take care of them (as with anything) they always perform. But in terms of wear and tear, water exposure, and the occasional impact do you think that the 150 DC would ever “crap out” as compared to the 200 K?
Finally....I been asking if dc reels are worth the money to everyone and nobody has gotten back to me. My problem is we fish 3 people on a z18 nitro so I am stuck sharing the deck with my nephew and can't sidearm my baitcaster. I backlash it more now since I had to change up my cast. I will be keeping an eye out for these when they come out. Thanks for the great content as always. Tight lines from KY.
Yeah but can you cast a jig with 12 pound floro 60 yards with no thumbing on a regular reel i think not btw it is good with finesse lures i bought a few and its amazing you can cast a 3/32 ounce neko rig 50 yards with 12 pound floro
If I am not mistaken you did not explain one of the most important features of the DC reel: how to adjust the tension knob, which is different from a traditional baitcaster and is key to avoid backlashes and also when properly set helps get the most out of the reel.
Awesome video Tim! It’s insane what the fishing industry is coming out with. And ya, the Chronarch MGL is insane ... one of my favorite reels for sure.
Where would you rate the DC compared to other mid range reels. Note: For me the DC would bd a HIGH end purchase. Also, what "all around" mid range reel would you recommend for this reel? See you on Clear Lake (I'm @ Riviera West).

What would be your #1 application for this reel? What rod would you pair it with to use for those application? Didn't really "need" a new setup, but I love my Shimanos and Diawas, and at that price point its a no-brainer for me. Now just need to figure out what I will use it for and what rod to pair with it. Thanks guys for all the great info over the years
Hopefully you can help me out. I'm at a point where I can afford a nice reel. At the same price point or under. Would you recommend the corrado. Or is there something else you would recommend?
I was recommended a 150HG DC model but was told GLS what does GLS mean? It would be for a 4" plastic paddle tail with a 3/16 jig head as a common bait!
Everyone should check out the other Shimano DC reels. Im not sure on this Curado DC model, however the other DC reels have an internal setting for Braid or Fluro and external dail from 1-5: with Auto dial as the 6th setting. Curious to see if this Curado has the same.
I was just about to buy the Curado 71XG now you have me second guessing. Love the sound of the dc. The question is is how long before they come in? Glad to hear Matt is ok. Great video Tim
Not only am i super excited to have the micro module gearing and an 8.5 speed, but i love the placement of the dial. The only time i ever get a backlash with my scorpion is if the dial gets knocked down to 1 and I'm throwing something heavy and don't realize it. And my curado ks are my strongest and smoothest reels I've used but my only 2 dislikes are 1. The outside dial is a nightmare to turn, 2. compared to the scorpion the braking system just feels ancient to me. Both problems are completely eliminated. I am so excited for this reel lol
Old Lady Angler was watching an w2f video the other day and they linked me to your Underwater Jackhammer Chatterbait video. Great stuff OLA much appreciated :-)
If you could only afford one of the Shimano Expride A Casting Rod you linked to which would you buy as a good all around rod? I know this is a tough question to ask but I thought I would give it a shot.
Hi great vid i just bought a new curado and I didn’t even know something like this braking system was even made. But my question is, is braid any harder to cast than mono as far as backlash? And what is fluorocarbon?? My old baitcaster was the old green curado so I’m familiar with a baitcast reel but I haven’t gone fishing in several years.
I know this is a late response and you might have already googled it but i saw no one responded so figured i would. Braid is by far the best casting line of the 3 and that, along with its superior bite sensitivity compared to mono and flouro is why it’s so popular to use, especially in braid to leader setups. Doesn’t have stretch however so no the best for treble hook setups but is more suited for single hooks requiring hard and fast hook sets. Also of those three types of line, it’s the easiest for the fish to see (another reason for flouro or mono leaders) Fluoro is kinda like a hybrid of braid and mono, best of both worlds type of situation. Flouro has the invisibility in the water that mono does but to an even higher degree, it does have some stretch unlike braid but not quite as much as mono, AND most importantly, while braid and mono lines float, flourocarbon sinks so it can be used to get your baits to the bottom faster, change the fall rate or fall action of your baits, or to change diving depths of diving style baits. i hope this helped and if after 6 months you’ve already found this out for yourself or googled it than don’t mind me
Does the Curado DC hold more line than the Scorpion DC? Everywhere the Scorpion is listed at 12lb/120 meters, but the Curado spool at 12lb/110 yards, looks much larger.
Really interested in the DC tech. Just can't help but to wonder what would happen if anything malfunctioned at the water. Stuck with a broken reel? or does it have manual adjustments also? Super cool reels for sure!
I am new to the baitcasting reels. Some of the RUclips people are going with the SHIMANO SLX XT instead of the DC. I am going to give that a try first.
I just bought 151xg.....and try to combine it with zodias 2020 but i just can’t decide which rod length is the best for my 151xg...wish you can help me.
A little unrelated but where do you guys get your front runners to put in front of walking baits I’ve been looking around but can’t seem to find them. Thanks
I was thinking about getting this reel for frogging and flipping but with flipping the dc part of the reel wouldn’t really come into play so would you suggest I just get a Curado k
What a tank for a new reel at 7.8 oz. I thought they were state of the art? Did they forget and make it out of Hagane cast iron. I like it except the weight.
I trust you guys and your opinions. I have seen many videos of the Curado DC, and even one casted into a wall that wouldn't nest. I have seen other RUclips guys who can't cast it hard without nesting it. Not all the time but several. I am needing a baitcast reel that I can skip with, would you recommend this?

Pretty slick reel.. This is why shimano and Daiwa are Tops in the reel industry..
Trey Harpel curado k or tatula sv?
Harrison C. tatula sv in my opinion
Both are sweet reels.. SV is a little more versatile and a very nice skipping reel..
yeah that t wing system is nice for heavy flouro
My 14 year old daughter skips docks with the Scorpion DC and it does great for her and I sure the Curado will do just as good
I’m admittedly a Daiwa fanboy and love my tatula SV reels, but I could see me picking up one of these! Really cool technology!!
@Hugh Mann Not really I have the DC and I wouldn't return it for anything. Not even for a MGL reel which are the best baitcasters out there!
DC is better than any Daiwa junk out there
Devan Crowe have you fished Daiwa? If you had then you would know they are not junk.

I seen him thumbing it and for the short extra distance that... He Claims it get...not worth it...they are promoting this to b the ...End All Back Lashes....which is not true....but Americans Will buy into to ..
Would you say that this reel is better than the Shimano Metanium MGL?
