Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

Those old shimonos r classics!!! My grandpa had them in this Arsenal and they still hang with all of the new reels
Coming back to the curado DC in 2023 and owning a few modern bate casters. DC is still worth it. Mine runs like a clock, setting 2 12 lb mono.

I have watched several videos of this reel in comparison to others, like the SLX DC for example. You have done an excellent job showing this reel’s abilities. Also, setting #4 is also for high wind conditions. Good job! And nice bowfin!

I really think you guys are honest you use gear to it’s full potential and I don’t think you would lie if a product sucked or didn’t work as it was intended. I think other channels would just say it’s awesome for endorsement and money.

My four just showed up on Thursday morning too bad I will not get a chance to try it out until next week. As bad as I want to try them out I will not go out in 100 + degree temperature. I definitely do like the sound. I remember the first time hearing it and thought that it had a bad bearing. That is what Drew my attention over to the demonstration. If they work as well as they did in the demonstration it is just a matter of time before all the rest of the companies out there catch up with them. I honestly believe the price point is pretty good. God knows I've spent more on different reels.

I've got the 151 xg, 40 pound Maxcuatro (30 regular PP diameter) on a 6'6" M Bone travel rod (which feels like the 6'6" M Exprides). It's a cool little reel for wind, skipping etc. and IMO a nice complement to the Curado Ks. Even on setting 4 with no lure drop on freespool it will backlash if you hit a wall, not buying all the hype but I don't think you can go wrong with this reel. For someone on a limited budget IMO the K is still hard to beat at

@ 3:42 about the thumb bar. I purchased one of these and it did have this problem, after about 3 hours of frogging, the thumb bar would stick and it was quite annoying.. I returned it and got a replacement and its worked great so far!

What rod is being used in the video?
I assume you leave the brake at factory setting as these reels are not made to change brake settings. Only time you adjust brake is if the spool is shifting left or right and has gotten off the factory setting. Having said that, what settings beween 1 and 4 on the left side of the reel do you use for both pitching and flipping?

If you're a fisherman i think you should learn service your own reels. I have been since my 20s and now 48yrs old. Pro tip learn to oil your own. Better job cuz u care more,#2 easy, #3 don't pay anything other than a good oil,#4 no waiting for anyone, no driving= no cash paid out. Service your own save money for more tackle. PS TO ALL DON'T BE SCARED
I found a old Shimano bantum Crestfire 200a for $5 at a goodwill, works fine after I cleaned it! 5.1.1 lol

Nice video! Nice curado DC. It’s time you move on to some new technology. I love your old school reels too. But you can have old school and new reels all together. Maybe try a Daiwa Steez or a zillions too.

They do make a heavier bait option. Brand new this year. 2018 Shimano Antares DC MD (Monster drive). Little pricey though

I can't imagine the life expectancy of these things would be that great. I'm sure they're good out of the box but what about 3-4 years down the line?
The unit is sealed and has no moving parts inside of it. I imagine of you don't dunk your reel into water overnight it should last as long as any other reel.
There are tons of older JDM DC reels going strong. A buddy of mine has an old Metanium DC that has got to be almost a decade old.

I tested my ul rod with the Curado K less braid thin 0.06 it casted 2.5 grams thats not bad with the 16 grams spool.
No backlash . . . This guy got the spool tension tight I can do that with every reel too and trow frog 25 grams
The installed DC unit is the old type DC unit and the same unit as 08 methanium DC

Always owned Shimano reels from baitrunners on rivers and deadbaiting to flagship big pits for carp and catfish when I worked as a fishing guide in Spain, always been a proven top brand.
I was comparing the curado k vs the DC, both have good reviews but personally the K looks so much better and the sound the DC make a would drive me insane, so annoying. So for those reasons it's got to be the K for me.

Decent reel, not bashing it (even tho the K version is a better deal for the money). But when you tighten your cast control as much as you did, every single baitcaster would be able to cast thumb free. Its really nothing else but marketing.
B U N G I E but it’s still getting distance in the cast, If you tightened the knob like that and tried to cast it would go 5 feet from the boat
On a reel from aliexpress, yeah. Any decent reels from Shimano/Daiwa over ~$170 can do long range bombing with no thumbing. Will it go as far as if you loosen up the cast control? No. But nor does the Curado DC.
Daiwa reels with SV spools do a thumb free casting without even needing tighten up your cast control and you're not overpaying ~$100 like you're for the DC brakes.
The point of the dc system is to let it do all the braking, you only adjust the spool tension knob to stop the side to side spool movement that’s it.
@@jeffreylenz7314 U do that on daiwa/megabass, i know (magnetic systems in general). But that is not what he did in the video. Also, if you've watched any reviews about this reel (not ones sponsored by shimano...). you would know that the braking force is very weak. So much so that if fishing in windy conditions, you have to use the cast control, something that is never the case on other DC reels like the Conquest or Met MG DC.
@@Virtue_Signaling_Land_Whale IDK guys, I have a $92 Saex Elite that I can cast as far as my Curados and Zillions. I think you have to go over 400 to see anything other than hype.
For Musky fishing would you recommend the 150 or go bigger. I see a 200.

The bigger reel would be better. However I don't know the specs on drag difference only difference I noticed is gear ratio.

That is the native Bowfin...aka Dogfish. They are an awesome predator and fighter and have a lot of the same qualities as a musky. Check out our channel for more videos on them. That is a small one btw. Thanks for watching.

@@TodaysAngler the DC chip works by the pitch the whine is making and adjusts spool speed based on the noise! I think the louder the better in my opinion!
Not sure why everyone overtightens the cast control cap...
Its because the instructions say to tighten it only until the spool stops moving side to side, the chip does the rest.
I can totally relate to the idiots who do what we call the "Erie Shuffle" and move right in on you. People can be stupid sometimes.
