The hack for transporting eggs is good - you can freeze them this way. If you are doing egg dishes with cheese or flavors like tomatoes or onions or ham or mushrooms you can add to the egg mix and then there is no need to chop up at the campsite. Transport flour, or rice, or polenta (cornmeal), or dried beans, or oats this way as well
I think this video did an excellent job of showing one the possibilities.; planting the seed, if you were. Now it's up to the audience to use, discard, or modify the hacks to fit their needs. Personally, I see quite a few of these that I can use at home. And above all, she was kind enough to share it with us. I for one, am grateful.
I like the reflectix in a cooler idea. With mine I bought a small styrofoam cooler 1/2 inch thick for 4 bucks. I cut it in several pieces to the exact size of the interior of cooler including the top and bottom. Then I cut the reflectix like they did in video. I put the foam next to the inside of cooler and put the reflectix on top of that. I taped all the seams with aluminum tape so I wouldn't get leakage and mold. At 4 days I still had ice. At 7 days the ice had melted but the temp of sandwich meat was only 50 degrees. This was in low dew point weather but it was still 78 to 81 degrees. I also did this to start my campfire. I took cotton balls and put a coating of petroleum jelly on them and put them in a ziploc bag. This camping hacks video that has several things I could do because almost all the items needed I already have in the house.
Heidi Ullrich: This is going to sound gross, but as a child my father told me about that. He said that’s what the military taught the GI’s. One square. Fold it into a triangle, then fold it into a triangle again. The corner where the points meet would be ripped off. Then unfold, stick finger thru hole and wipe. When done, pull finger back thru hole thereby cleaning finger. That little corner that was first tore off....that was to clean under the finger nail. I thought he was joking, but if you google “ how to wipe with one piece of toilet paper”, you’ll find the how to videos. 🤦♂️🙄
You should allow the hot water to cool (about 20 minutes) before adding the yeast to the mosquito trap. Otherwise, the hot water will kill the yeast, making the trap ineffective.
Some great ideas. Unfortunately, most of the starting tools are from things we do not use in my house (plastic pop bottles, hypodermic needles, etc.). But really, some great ideas. I already have products to help with most of the things mentioned (like the egg carrier you can even find in Walmart's camping section), but the camp washing machine was a hoot, as was the hula-hoop shower.
The toilet paper dispenser is the most practical hack here! Roughing it is one thing but getting a piece of toilet paper from a roll without a dispenser is where I draw the line!
Amen! Not to mention that big, heavy glass jars are always preferable to put things in for camping that started out in tiny containers that weigh nothing.
Clever. Would that defo work? What a wally I would appear if I tried it and it failed. Am camping in my garden at the moment due to a very very annoying neighbour...
Very clever with the matches! I carry 3 BIC lighters. AND some matches. And one small road flare in the winter in case I need to absolutely, positively start a fire FAST. I would not EVER break eggs before taking them on a journey. In fact, they're good for a few hours out of the fridge if cooked right away, but once cracked, things begin growing in them rapidly. As for palm-sized water bottles, they're perfect for dish soap - no leaks. Gatorade bottles are perfect for storing all sorts of food items. As for the can in a can twig stove, consider using a drill: Drill six large (1/2 inch) holes around the upper edge of the larger can while drilling six small holes in the sides near the base. On the slightly smaller can, drill six small holes in the sides around the base as well. Fill the smaller can with twigs and a dash of methanol. Place into large can and light. Place water pot on can. Control the airflow with a small circle of aluminum foil around the bottom holes in the smaller can. On the makeshift cooler (red), the aluminum needs to be facing outward to reflect the heat back to the outside.
For those that are not skilled at building SUSTAINABLE fires: Butane lighters and a bottle of hand sanitizer, some drier lint and LOTS of dry kindling and tinder to get you going. However much of each wood you think you need...triple that at minimum. For those of us that know how to PROPERLY build a fire, there’s nothing more satisfying than a “one match fire build” And matches are for nostalgia. Love using them, but don’t bet your wet, hypothermic butt on them. Always bring MULTIPLE fire starting sources.
Gotta few morons below...lol...my my...y'all must be some city dwellers. Well, listen up chumps, these hacks are GREAT for us "off-grid, prepper/survivalists as well! AND in the city, shit can hit the fan also, so be smart like Macgyver or you can just sit there with your thumbs up your asses staring at 4 walls wondering when the electric will come back on! 😗 Suck on that thought for a minute...👊
@@jerryglass6556 so is this the reason why some countries don't shake hands? It's a one sheet of tp country and they might have residue left on fingers?
Used to make waterproof fire starters out of corrugated cardboard coiled up inside of a cleaned tuna can and filled with melted paraffin. It's waterproof and supports starting a fire even with wet wood.
Be careful melting wax for some of these ideas as it's dangerous if not done right. Always melt over simmering water and never on direct heat or you my end up with your kitchen on fire.
@@Tigerzbeer the smell of the campfire smoke is one thing, but B.O. really is quite another. While I agree that it is a bit cumbersome to backpack a lidded bucket and plunger into the woods or on long hikes, personally i pack some environmentally-friendly multipurpose cleanser (like a few soapnuts), and a small washbasin that folds quite flat, some strong, lightweight rope, & a few strong but very small & light clamps. Clothes chosen is quick-drying. Well - worth the few extra grammes of mass.
never put matches in a glass jar m&ms minis come in a plastic tube eat candy or save replace with matches tape strikers together slide in tube striker toward plastic seal with duct tape

To keep matches dry from rain/bodies of water. If the matchbox gets wet, the matches get wet. It's better to store them in plastic rather than glass, though.

take your matches out of the tiny box. and put them in a glass jar because thats so much easier to carry..or get waterproof matches that one just seems like a complete waste...and glass hiking, naw I'm good

nice job making a little hobo camp stove and lighting it directly on dry grass
Hahahahaha! Thats how you do it right. It makes a bigger fire on those chilly nights.
Aww, it wouldn't be a real urban camping trip w/o a visit from the FD

Coollll... my goodness you taught some newww tricks ... I thank you so much for that. Keep it moving...
We learned alot of these in scouts, the coffee can stove using a can opener to make holes, the bunsen burner, the soap in the nylon

these never get old....

It’s amazing. Great ideas . Thanks for sharing.I learn a lot from this video
Absolutely brilliant!!!!!
Umm need to go old school camping hacks like using Mother Nature to survive that’s the way to really survive
Some of these arent useful. Why would i inject soap in a sponge. Just bring soap

So, how many campers actually do any of these?
