Von Shuler with his Plow Mule "Jane"

Von Shuler is a Horse and Mule Trader from the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina. He has bought and sold thousands of Horses and Mules over the years but the one that will never be for sale is "Jane" his plow mule.

I absolutely love this..I remember being a little boy looking out grannies window at my Grandpa Monroe with his old straw hat and overhauls plowing the field with his old mule Huldey and that old times plow. I remember him also standing on this old disk that hat two levers that come up from it and Huldey would be pulling that..Grandpa loved him some bluegrass music especially Bill Monroe..Boy, if I could just go back it would be a dream come true...Had a barn, pasture, woods, corn crib and an old smoke house..All gone now.

Wow that was magic. Not only did she go back to the barn... but she also tied her lead rope to the hitching post.

Real nice. I used to work in an engineering office with a lady engineer that used to run mule pack trains in Yosemite National Park during the summer. She was the last person you would ever think would be doing that. But she used to say she'd take a mule over a horse any day. I'm hoping to visit Bishop's Mule Days this Memorial Day but it may be cancelled with the covid-19.
