About the quail: the condiment you were given are salt/pepper mixture and a kumquat, you're supposed to squeeze the kumquat into the salt/pepper mixture then dip the quail with it. The green under the quail is Vietnamese corriander (rau răm), and yes you're suppose to eat it. Vietnamese traditional dishes and street food don't have decorative elements in it, so if you find anything in your plate, you can eat it. And when you don't know how to eat something, just ask everyone around, everyone will be happy to help you.
Thanks so much! We figure this out as our trip goes on. 😅 This was our first real experience with Vietnamese food, but 100% won’t be our last! Thank you so much for the tips. We’re really appreciate it! Thanks for watching. 🥰🤗
@@mikeandashley I hope you don't have a bad experience because you're eating it wrong :). And yes, eat the green stuff in between bites, as it cleans the palate because Vietnamese food can get too tasty.

Hello Mike and Ashley, Hope you two have been well in Vietnam. If you have the chance to visit Hà Nội, I recommend this list to try bc Hà Nội is famous for it. 1 Chả cá Lã Vọng, recommended in the previous comment. 2 Chả rươi. Basically, it’s the sea worm fried cake. Not sure if it’s in season or not. Ask the locals to find out. 3 Bún chả. Already recommended. Even our then president Barrack Obama tried when he visited Hà Nội. 4 Bún riêu ốc. People in Hà Nội have their unique recipe for this dish. Highly recommended. 5 Phở. I’m sure you both have had phở in Sài Gòn, but phở in Hà Nội is different! Try to get up early in the morning and go out to eat while it’s still cool. Can’t help you to translate the main courses into English. It’s better that you show it to the restaurant or food vendors staffs and ask for what you want to try. Have a safe trip. @@mikeandashley my favorite Banh Mi is on CMT8 street, in front of the Tân Bình high school, i used to eat there when i was little.. i ate so many places for 30 years, but theyre still the best.. If you come back, you should try squid stir fry with pineapple and cucumber, tomato, you eat with white rice, its really good and everybody can eat it
That sounds interesting! We’ll have to check it out. And we’ll definitely hunt down that Banh Mi! If it’s your favorite, it’s probably absolutely delicious! You have so many recommendations! ☺️😋
6:47 that tiny little bowl of fish sauce, and those herbs and lettuces. plus a chili paste are the whole set. It is meant eating with that thing. The right way to eat is put the lettuce on your hand and then take one piece of that “banh khot” put it on top of it, then adding all those different kind of mints and herbs on top and wrap it altogether. Then take a little (or a lot depend on how spicy that u can eat) chili paste put into the fish sauce and stirring well. Then finally dip that wrapped thing into the chili 🌶️ fish sauce and eat it or bite it. Anyway, no one put the chili paste on top of that thing and eat it like that, and even eat without lettuce and herbs and eat without dipping into those delicious fish sauce with chili paste. Well, the way you guys ate it, it’s a totally wrong way to eat this kind of foods. So u only can taste less than 50% out of it. Instead of the full tastes out of this dish. It’s definitely a different levels.
We’ve learned so much about how to eat Vietnamese food through the comment section! We are so grateful to have you and your advice on how to eat your cuisine. ☺️😋 Now when we try things we’ll get the full flavor! 🤗 Thanks for watching.
Not gonna lie, chicken nuggies do sound pretty good sometimes! But the food in Vietnam is next level! Thanks for watching all the way from CA! We miss it there. Best weather ever. 🙏🙏
Thank you! We feel like being open to new things is one of the most important parts of travel. And food is so unique to each place we’ve been. Thank you for watching and enjoying our vlog. ☺️🙏
Aw, thanks so much!! 🥰🥰 And that’s good to hear! 😅😂 We always wonder if anything is being said when we’re not paying attention/can’t understand. It’s a relief to know that we’re likable. ☺️🤗
I LOVE BANH MI TOO. HAVE YOU TRIED THE ONE IN THI NGHE MARKET IN BINH THANH DISTRICT, VERY CHEAP ONLY 15,000 BUT IF YOU LIKE MORE MEAT THEY WILL CHARGE YOU MORE, 20,000. AFTER COVID, I'M NOT SURE THEY'RE STILL THERE OR CLOSE.
Oh we haven’t tried that one! 😱 15k is so affordable! Hopefully they made it through Covid. We’re not in HCMC any more, but next time we are there we will have to check it out. ☺️🙏 Thanks for the suggestion!
Hi again, Another suggestion on menu list. 1 Bò nướng lá lốt ( minced beef wrapped with LOT leaves) 2 Bún thang 3 Bún mọc 4 Bún mắm ( this type of bún might be too much for you to handle, but if you can handle the strong flavor of it, highly recommended). The reason is bc its broth is cooked from fermented fish. I myself love it. Enjoy your trip. Best of luck to you two.
Hi Mike and Ashley, Just a reminder, don’t forget the tropical fruits! You went to Thailand so I’m pretty sure that you two are aware that it’s a mistake to skip the fruits. Eat them fresh or in form of smoothie is just as good. Not sure what fruits are in season currently. Ask the locals for their recommendation. Stay safe and healthy. Have a great day.
You are handsome and your wife Ashley is very pretty.. keep doing it, you guys will be super famous later.. And you will make a lot of money.. You are a nice guy and your wife love to explore something new too.. Thats a perfect couple for reviewing foods
Have you tried Ngon 138 Restaurant in D3, it pretty much has everything in one place and always see a lot of foreigners there. I always like to eat at least once whenever I visited Vietnam. It's a different atmosphere/version other than the street vendors. TripAdvisor had a 4/5 for it as well.
@@mikeandashley Try the version with passion fruit...I hear it's even better! There's also another version with I think pineapple and orange juice and something else...one of the vloggers tried it based on a local recommendation and said it was absolutely delicious.
lol, you supposed to squeeze kumquat juice into salt & pepper then dip the quail into the mixture and eat with the Vietnamese coriander. Give it another try next time.
😅 Thanks for letting us know! We really had no idea what we were doing, but we still managed to make it taste good! Thanks for the tip, we’ll try it that way next time. ✌️☺️
This makes us even more excited to visit HCMC in the future! Hanoi didn't really have many street food stalls like this when we lived there. The markets were always 90% goods and clothes (though maybe its changed now). Its nice to see a whole collection of street food stalls in one spot. I was waiting for one of you to bite the head off the quail. Ozzy Osbourne style. 😂
Right! I told you it was street food! This place is a must visit for sure. Aannnd… we were thinking about it, but it wasn’t for us lol. We will try some stranger things on our trip as we go I’m sure. But we had to ease ourselves into this one. 😅😂
@@mikeandashley Fair enough. You guys are already slowly getting more experimental, so I'm already proud of you both! Next stop, sheeps head! Hahaha. 🐑👁
@@mikeandashley There are so many organ dishes throughout Asia. Some are actually quite good! Have you guys tried chicken hearts yet? They're pretty yummy. Just start small- and you may be pleasantly surprised. 😛
We try them when we can. Little bites here and there. We were super tired one day, actually I think right before we left HCMC, and we got noodles that had congealed pigs blood cubes. We tried those, Ashley was the one pushing for it surprisingly lol. Wasn’t really for us. We tried pigs heart yesterday. Perhaps we’re just not getting it prepared just right, but it just hit home the way we’d like lol. Your recommendations for later on in the series though! 👌🤌 We’ll give you a proper shout out. 🙏
You should dip the banh Khot in the fish sauce because this sauce makes all the difference in the taste of that dish . That citrus is not orange but kumquat or calamansi .
I ended up pouring the fish sauce on the banh khot. I don’t love the way fish sauce smells, but it sure does add an amazing flavor to things! ☺️ Thanks for the info! We appreciate it! 🤗
@@mikeandashley I was actually surprised at your tonality...that is something most Americans struggle with even years of trying to learn it but you Ashley said it perfectly when asking how much.
You ate the Quail(bird, quail egg), the "orange" you thought that is kumquat. You squeeze kumquat to pepper salt and dip it! PS: I hope the traveler understands about Vietnamese speak English because they try to speak the English to you!
Thanks for clarifying! We understand that they speak English very well, one of the things we try to do when we come to any country that speaks a different language is learn some of the language if we can! We know that we probably sound ridiculous pronouncing some of the things, but we like to try! Everyone was very kind to us and helped us with our understanding of things. ☺️🙏
You guys did a great job of trying out exotic foods on your own. I always recommend foreigners go on a food tour in every city possible as Vietnamese food is challenging for those unfamiliar (e.g. not squeezing the kumquat juice into the salt and pepper to make a dip for the quail or not eating banh khot with the fish sauce and herbs/veggies). The best food tours I've seen came out of Hanoi from videos like "Flora and Note", "Sammy and Tommy", "This Food Bangz", MomDuty, etc. "Chase and Shelbs" got a great guide in HCMC and "Steph and Pete" got an awesome guide in Hoi An. All the foreigners I've seen loved the food tours and raved about them. Plus, the food videos often get the highest views...not that I'm for that all the time as I love seeing other things besides just food. LOL
We KNOW! We should have done a food tour. We messed up! We end up trying some really unique dishes on our own, even some we haven’t seen on any vlogs later on in the series. Thank you for all the recommendations of things to check out. We really appreciate it! ☺️🙏
rules of thumb : when any dishes you order and they give yoy alot of greens.. you supposed to wrap the food in it and eat it.. it taste better wrap in lettuce etc
you need try these dishes Bun Bo Hue -Spicy beef noodle, Banh canh Cua - crab noodle, Com tam bi thit nuong , Bun thit nuong - broken rice grilled pork or noodle, Recommend order Thap cam- mean combination
as a local born in saigon, i can guarantee that you only need 400-500$ to live for 1 month here if you live alone, including rent and meals, Living. Of course if you live in the countryside the cost is even lower

Haha, we weren’t brave enough to go all in. All in all, it was just like chicken, but the smaller bones were so brittle, it wasn’t even noticeable. The bigger ones, we just ate around them. You could just do that overall, but we figured we had to try it at least once! ☺️ Thanks for watching guys! 🙏
We know! 😅 We thought about it after the fact. We’re usually so stubborn and just try to figure it out ourselves, but now we want to come back and do a food tour in each city! We’ll probably try new foods we’d never think of!

All of the food is so delicious! We’ve been in food heaven ever since arriving in Vietnam. 😋😋
Very nice video ❤ thanks for your share and We wish to say hi to all people around the world, especially Khmer or Cambodian, from Cambodia 💕🇰🇭
👋🥰
Ho Thi Ky market is a market in District 10 where there is a wide variety of food and drinks. Wish you have a trip to experience the streets of Saigon happily and full of happiness ^^
Thanks so much! We had a great time visiting Ho Thi Ky Market. There was so much delicious food to try! 🥰
Lol, now in America eat almost everything😊,
So many good foods while traveling! We don’t want to have to eat American food ever again! Haha.
We actually found transportation to be reasonably priced! Much lower than some other southeast Asian countries!
Love you guys energy and positivity. Ash always smiles. 👍
Thanks so much! That means a lot to us. 🥰😄
Your videos are not good for my intermittent fasting. That said, the food looks amazing!😂
😂😅 Oh no! Just make sure to play them during the times you can eat!
Bánh Mì Huỳnh Hoa is really good, theyre not far away from Chợ Bến Thành..
We went there! I can’t remember if it makes it into a video or not though. It was delicious!
*Mike & Ashley đi ăn ở thiên đường ẩm thực chợ đêm Hồ thị Kỷ* !
We sure did! It was amazing! So much good food and such an amazing vibe and atmosphere. 🤗 We are loving it here in Vietnam. 🥰
Here I am, eating processed chicken nuggets and Fries cured with preservatives and grease watching you guys. California USA.
Not gonna lie, chicken nuggies do sound pretty good sometimes! But the food in Vietnam is next level! Thanks for watching all the way from CA! We miss it there. Best weather ever. 🙏🙏
Oh yeah, I see you enjoyed the tea a lot, then I suggest you try Trà Đào Cam Sả (Peach Orange Lemongrass Tea), it's a very popular drink in Vietnam.
Ooh! Sounds so delicious! 😋🤗
I love your attitude and openness to the different cuisines
Thank you! We feel like being open to new things is one of the most important parts of travel. And food is so unique to each place we’ve been. Thank you for watching and enjoying our vlog. ☺️🙏
Love you guys, you’re cute together and the locals all like you. Nobody said anything bad about you behind your back.
Aw, thanks so much!! 🥰🥰 And that’s good to hear! 😅😂 We always wonder if anything is being said when we’re not paying attention/can’t understand. It’s a relief to know that we’re likable. ☺️🤗
Cảm ơn bạn đã đến với đất nước chúng tôi❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for welcoming us! 🥰
I enjoy this video Thank you❤️
We’re so glad! Thanks for watching. 🥰
He lo các ban chúc các ban vui vẻ ở việt nam chúng tôi
We have! Thank you so much for your support. 🥰🥰
Hi again,
Another suggestion on menu list.
1 Bò nướng lá lốt ( minced beef wrapped with LOT leaves)
2 Bún thang
3 Bún mọc
4 Bún mắm ( this type of bún might be too much for you to handle, but if you can handle the strong flavor of it, highly recommended). The reason is bc its broth is cooked from fermented fish. I myself love it.
Enjoy your trip. Best of luck to you two.
Thanks so much for the recommendations! We don’t care for fish, but we’re eager to try everything else! 🥰
Hi Mike and Ashley,
Just a reminder, don’t forget the tropical fruits!
Mmm. We LOVE fruits! 🤗 And smoothies sound so good for a hot day! 😋 Thanks again for the recommendations!
You are handsome and your wife Ashley is very pretty.. keep doing it, you guys will be super famous later.. And you will make a lot of money.. You are a nice guy and your wife love to explore something new too.. Thats a perfect couple for reviewing foods
Thanks so much! That means the world to us and we hope you're right! 🥰
Wish your family have great travels in my country. love you guys so much.❤❤❤
Thank you so much! ☺️🙏 We would love for our family to be able to come and visit. 🤗
Oh man! We didn’t get to try this place! 😫 We’ve just added it to our maps for the next time we’re in Saigon. 🙌 Thank you for the recommendations. 🤗
Hey guys simple drink but so awesome super refreshing it’s called sugarcane and Calamansi ( nước mía tắt ) try it guys 🍻🍻👍👍
Ah, we’ve see this recommendation a few times now. We’ll have to try it! 🥰
@@mikeandashley Try the version with passion fruit...I hear it's even better! There's also another version with I think pineapple and orange juice and something else...one of the vloggers tried it based on a local recommendation and said it was absolutely delicious.
That sounds amazing! We’ll have to keep our eyes out for it! 😋
lol, you supposed to squeeze kumquat juice into salt & pepper then dip the quail into the mixture and eat with the Vietnamese coriander.
Hahaha. 🐑👁
😂😂 We’ll see! I’ll try any cuisine… and I can eat the spiciest of foods… but I usually draw the line at organs. Idk why.
Việt Nam là nơi bình yên nhất thế giới chào mừng các bạn ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It sure is lovely! Thanks! ☺️🙏
2 vợ chồng ra nhiều clip nhé
We are! We have so many vlogs from our time in Vietnam coming out! ☺️🥰✌️
Must try: Cơm Tấm, Hủ Tiếu, Phở, Bánh Mì in saigon🎉
😋😋 Sounds delicious!
HAHAHA I love the way how you learn Vietnamese : How much = Bow New . So Delicious = Rat None .
😅😂 We’re not the best, but we’re trying! 🤷♂️🤷♀️ It’s harder than it looks!
@@mikeandashley I was actually surprised at your tonality...that is something most Americans struggle with even years of trying to learn it but you Ashley said it perfectly when asking how much.
Ashley is a pro, I usually butcher things! Thanks for the vote of confidence! The tones in Vietnamese are very difficult to master!
Baņ đő múôi tiêu ŕa văc trái tăć vào rôì châm ,möi ngon
Chilis do make everything better! 😊🌶
Love you guys trying anything and everything looks amazing. Thank you 😊
Aw, thanks so much! ☺️🙏 We like to try new things when we can! It’s the best part of travel. 🤗 Thanks for watching! 🥰🥰
Thanks for this video! The editing is great. Side note: please don't add "s" to represent having multiple bánh mì
Amazing ...thank you 💞💞💞💞💞
Of course! 🥰🤗 Thanks for watching!
Look good yummy
Everything was delicious! We had fun trying new stuff. 🥰
Lovely couple ❤️

rules of thumb : when any dishes you order and they give yoy alot of greens.. you supposed to wrap the food in it and eat it.. it taste better wrap in lettuce etc
Oh, good to know! Thanks for the information. 😊
thank you for travelling to my Viet Nam
Thanks for welcoming us! We’re having a great time. 🥰
you need try these dishes Bun Bo Hue -Spicy beef noodle, Banh canh Cua - crab noodle, Com tam bi thit nuong , Bun thit nuong - broken rice grilled pork or noodle, Recommend order Thap cam- mean combination
Looking forward to it! 😋 Thanks for all the delicious recommendations! ☺️✌️
Banh Xeo, Com Ga ,Banh cuong etc
Yes! It all sounds so good. We have fallen IN LOVE with Vietnamese food! 😋😋
Thank you so much everyone
Thank you! ☺️🙏
Next time, squeeze the kumquat (tiny green lime) into the bag of salt and pepper to make a dipping sauce for your next fried dry quail
Wish we would have known this! Would have been even more delicious! 🤗😋
as a local born in saigon, i can guarantee that you only need 400-500$ to live for 1 month here if you live alone, including rent and meals, Living.
Of course if you live in the countryside the cost is even lower
We would LOVE to live in Viegnam. We keep talking about it. 😊
@@mikeandashleyi want to remind you when walking the walking streets, you may meet cosplayers, they will want to take a picture with you or give you a candy, you should refuse because they will ask for your money, 100,000VND equivalent to about more than 5$
Thanks for the heads up! ☺️🙏
Love the video! Do you have the address on the street you went to?

Welcome to Vietnam..
😂😂 Thanks for the warm welcome! And for watching. 🥰🙏
So much yummy food!! You guys are so brave trying the quail! Not sure if I could have done that!
👍👍🔥🔥🤣🤣💥💥
☺️🙏
❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
☺️☺️🙏🙏🥰🥰🙌🙌
You guy need to hire a food tour guide. They will take you to eat out in Saigon for entire day.
We know! 😅 We thought about it after the fact. We’re usually so stubborn and just try to figure it out ourselves, but now we want to come back and do a food tour in each city! We’ll probably try new foods we’d never think of!
We try to be honest in all of our videos, and we really can’t speak highly enough of Vietnam. The people, food, accommodations and scenery were all next level! We have had such an amazing time. We’re already planning a second trip to Vietnam to explore further.
Tôi mong rằng các bạn được ăn ngon và vui vẻ hạnh phúc trên đất nước chúng tôi
We will! And we are! 🥰🥰
the lime you supposed to squeeze on the peeper and salt and dip the quail into it and eat them. taste much more better
Oh, that makes sense. We’ll have to try it that way next time. Thanks for letting us know! 😊

We grew to enjoy fish sauce in Vietnam. It wasn’t our favorite condiment, but it compliments Vietnamese food so well!
