Somewhere about 1987 was the last year for the series 71 2 stroke. They have an amazing sound. The series 71 came in some different configurations like v6 v8 v12 and I have heard v16. I believe this series of engine is were we get the blowers for our engines like 6 71 or 8 71 meaning 6 cylinders 71 inches or 8 and so on. I think they lost out to the 60 series cause of their fuel economy cause those thing had big power. I work on a couple busses that still have 71s in them and consider it a privilege.
From what I've been told they will do better with computor tweeks but it a emissions thing and illegal so finding someone to do it is difficult. Atleast that's what I've been told.
It blows my mind . When diesel engines were fitted with EGR they took a hit on mileage a little. About 1 mile lose. Now day new ones get more like 4 miles. The engines are slightly smaller make more power and are volvo inlined 6s. But with federal emissions standards the computers and emissions devices it has taken its toll. I have to ask myself how does burning more fuel clean up the air. But I'm not a chemest.

What kind of jump box do you hook up to that? I assume that those are charging lugs next to the batteries.
