Que maravilhoso... Tudo me remete há um tempo incriível que participava de um coral com que mudou minha vida👏. amei. J´ai bien aimé. tout a changé ma vie.
A great version! Nothing is rushed/hurried. It is true that here the tempo is quite freely, but this is sacred music and and must be treated with noble emotions and sharp professionalism. Palestrina is wonderful.
I don't go to church but we do a ton of stuff like this in my schools Chamber Choir....basically my way to worship and how I found out about this amazing Composer!
Apare o intrebare legitima.
This music was created for the glory of God, it has only this sense. It is the same as it occurs with the great churches built only for the glory of God, churches that unfortunately nowadays have turned into museums because people has lost their faith. I'm christian and it's obvious that the greatness of this music comes for its religious significance. This shows how Christian faith has helped the development of art and music throughout history.
Des Prez' music is absolutely awe inspiring. As a classical music major in college, I sung many of these pieces with the choir. I love all these composers, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would Clement de Janequin. And right up there is all sacred music by Anton Bruckner, especially his motets.
Kristen Ellsworth: Of all I have sung with our choir I love Tomas Luis de Victoria most. I am basso and have great aplreciation of a composer who knows who a basso is and how to utilize him to the utmost effect.
This music is the perfect balance on the thin line of infinity and neutrality. It is top of the pyramid that has acces to a knowing of all that exists and exists not. True infinite intelligence is harmonizing here.
An experiment done by Dorothy Retallack proved that the music created by this gentleman actually made plants grow better. So imagine what it will do for the human brain.
as Westerners the simple fact that we do care about the whole world as if we were all part of a whole family is a direct heritage of the Christ. Even if you don't believe in God but you're way of thinking was affected by a man who was not a simple man. That's why 2000 years after and even though you're not a believer you know inside you that this love that you want to share worldwide is a good way of living.
@FallDownAndDie In the text book that I am reading about this piece in it says 'Agnus Dei from Missa Papae Marcelli' :) (but yes, it is also part of the Catholic Mass!)
@kevinm4435 This music was created for the glory of God, it has only this reason. It is the same as it occurs with the great churches built only for the glory of God, churches that unfortunately nowadays have turned into museums because people has lost their faith. I'm christian and for me the greatness of this music comes for its religious significance. This shows how Christian faith has helped the development of art and music throughout history.
It is one of the liturgical songs in the Marcellus Mass. Palestrina was influenced by the the Church Chant, which was prevalent during his time. It was the belief in the Catholic Church during those days that a prayer put into song must have a continuously flowing melody in order to reach the Almighty God!
@FallDownAndDie Agnus Dei is indeed a part of Mass... but this one is also specifically part of Missa Papae Marcelli by Palestrina (1557), one of the greatest works of polyphony. I think this is Agnus Dei I, and there's another part, Agnus Dei II. The whole Mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei I & II) is something you must listen to! :) I would recommend a Westminster Cathedral Choir recording - counterpoint4 uploaded them all, score is included!
In order to create the illusion of happiness, humans must delude themselves or else they would live in depression. Being human in itself demands that this occur - if it does not, then you are not human, you are something more: the next step in evolution.
The "truth" about religion is that it was created to give an explanation to what we didn't understand. Modern science has disproved many religions with the discovery of cells and microorganisms, along with disproving the theory of Abiogenesis
Am I in heaven? This music is superb! If there's a heaven, this music had to be played there! Actually, I'm not christian and I dont't believe in heaven. (I'm a pantheist, which is still considered as heresy by the catholic church... So I'm sort of a pagan.) And I guess, some people did get the feeling that the music is like "made in heaven", when they listened to Palestrina - it could've made them religious at least for some time. Perfect music for the Church and the Christian religion. Very expressive for the ideas of christianity
No, "FalDownAndDie", this is the last movement of Palestrina's famous setting of the Ordinary of the mass now called "Missa Papae Marcelli".Nice isn't it? Good composer!
@HolyMotherofGrid I must say I am inclined to agree. Much music is technique, and even this technique like much of Bach's fugues are beautifully made, but utterly beyond the reach of the modern sensibility. Indeed, who but the phlegmatic and the student will listen for hours eitehr to Gregorian Chant or Bach. . . On occasion, one must concede that even ABBA and the Beathles are much more representative of our times and our feelings.
@wondrouskid I just got a little riled up. I don't think insulting is necessary either, but that's only because the insulted individual wouldn't even understand why they were being insulted in the first place.
Science also disproves its own Theory of Evolution, as does the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Only other alternative is a Creator; a Being greater than ourselves. And this Creator has a Son; His name is Jesus. Search the facts for yourself before blindly believing what scientists throw out as fact. On topic, great music..Studying this in school, and this piece is definitely relaxing and appreciative.
@petispaghetti I'm not one to blame evils on religion unabashedly or to even say that we would be better off without it, but I sort of disagree with this. The creative drive is behind humans not depending on specifics of metaphysical worldview.
Agnus Dei is one part of the Ordinary of the Mass. It means Lamb of God. The Mass is as follows, 1) Kyrie Eleison 2) Gloria 3) Credo 4) Sanctus 5) Agnus Dei. It must help to be a believer to be able to write such music yes, but there are several Agnostic and Aetheist composers who have written such music. It's not a giveno don't get so hiigh and mighty you Christians.

you're honestly such a legend
Just wonderful how these excellent voices come together in this most beautiful piece of music! Thank you!

Que maravilhoso... Tudo me remete há um tempo incriível que participava de um coral com que mudou minha vida👏. amei. J´ai bien aimé. tout a changé ma vie.
This is gorgeous! Such fantastically composed music!
Just beautiful. His music is the best.
A great version! Nothing is rushed/hurried. It is true that here the tempo is quite freely, but this is sacred music and and must be treated with noble emotions and sharp professionalism. Palestrina is wonderful.
Absolument magnifique ! Merci pour cette merveilleuse découverte...
Beautiful... timeless.
Oh! Im famous. My name is Agnus Dei (Lamb of God in latin). Greetings from Brazil.
Very calming, and inspiring music.
Un capolavoro sublime e assoluto di un genio musicale sommo! Questa musica è la dimostrazione dell'esistenza di Dio...
I don't go to church but we do a ton of stuff like this in my schools Chamber Choir....basically my way to worship and how I found out about this amazing Composer!
Good music touches the soul and that is THE RELIGION OF MUSIC.
this is so relaxing. So beautiful
My prefrontal cortex thanks you!
I am in no way a very religious person, but the pure beauty of this piece is immeasurable. Palestrina was truly a genius!
God is on your way
GRACIAS A LA PERSONA QUE NOS COMPARTE TAN BELLA Y EXCELSA MÙSICA !!!!

My ear says "Amen."
Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world.

I love to listen to Palestrina while I bathe my dogs in the bath tub!
Polyphony has such beauty, but it is one of the most difficult thing to ever put into practice as a composer. Palestrina had a true gift.
What has changed since 11 years ago?
@magisterandrew There were apparently two Agnus Dei scores found with the Mass. This is the "other" one.
Lamb of God You take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on us.
@FallDownAndDie Agnus Dei is latin for Lamb of God - this piece of music is from a the Catholic Mass and it was set to music by many famous composers.
@Portubed Oh yeah, they whimper with sheer happiness as Palestrina orchestrates each soap molecule about their coats. It's quite a sight.
Magnifico!
But who is the choral group performing this? What is their name?
Looks like no one ever replied to you. This is the Oxford Camerata.
TheFeelingsStore Thanks!
This is a solo by Ludwig van Beethoven, I think.
Played by Paul McCartney...
... angels !
@FallDownAndDie That is from "Missa Papae Marcelli" by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina
An experiment done by Dorothy Retallack proved that the music created by this gentleman actually made plants grow better. So imagine what it will do for the human brain.
It is as if the heavens open and we see angels going up and down!
Bello! Sublime!!
Yes, i have got 13 years old... but I LOVE IT!
npc!
he was brilliant composer, advanced simple melodies to dance music

Actually, nothing affects the greatness of this music.
@FallDownAndDie Specifically this is the Agnus Dei 1 from Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli.
@kevinm4435 I agree with you. I'm an atheist but I love this music. It is very uplifting.
@FallDownAndDie It's a part of a certain mass called the Missa Papae Marcelli (The Mass of Pope Marcellus)
@Ignatius831 "This shows how Christian faith has helped the development of art and music throughout history." OR, vice versa!
@Statismiks
no is not a Pope Marcellus Mass... i've studied these mass , but the Agnus was different
Danke Schöpfer, dass Du uns die Musik als Tröster und Himmelsleiter geschenkt hast.
Nun weis ich meinen Jenseitsjob: Sänger

kyrie, gloria, credo, sanctus, agnus dei = the 4 main parts of a catholic mass
@FallDownAndDie Agnus Dei is a part of the Catholic Mass

PREGO MAESTRO PALESTRINA SIA CANONIZZATO PER I MIRACOLI DELLE SUE COMPOSIZIONI....AVE MARIA!!!
my sentiments exactly
if there's a paradise - and god as well - then i'm sure i'll be listening at palestrina's music after my death!
I agree totallllllly
The "truth" about religion is that it was created to give an explanation to what we didn't understand. Modern science has disproved many religions with the discovery of cells and microorganisms, along with disproving the theory of Abiogenesis
that modulation from 0:45 to 0:50 is interesting
@FallDownAndDie Its from 'Pope Marcellus Mass'
@whitegrant Haha never thought of that. Are they more relaxed during it?
@jcfbell3001 key word: "believe"
Am I in heaven? This music is superb!
If there's a heaven, this music had to be played there! Actually, I'm not christian and I dont't believe in heaven. (I'm a pantheist, which is still considered as heresy by the catholic church... So I'm sort of a pagan.)

What choir/group performed this?
@petispaghetti Good point, Bach wrote all his music for God and god only!
@lelutindecouves it's from Missa Papae Marcelli
Hier word ik stil van. Hier met de oehoe van de roofvogelboerderij op mijn arm. Mijn grootvader Knippenberg was een Vogelaar...
@FallDownAndDie it's from Missa Papae Marcelli
@alienjim its from the Missa Papae Marcelli

Me Gusta.
@dheeren62 Maybe, but wherever the word comes from it doesn't change anything at the problem of His existence.
What's the name of that Choir?
@annamarie993 what you said made me cry
It does'nt mattter if there's an god, or not. This is very beatiful human music.
It matters

@wondrouskid I just got a little riled up. I don't think insulting is necessary either, but that's only because the insulted individual wouldn't even understand why they were being insulted in the first place.
@PrinceNeosis Sure, but it's the same thing for all religions. Islam and Judaism is also about loving one another. :)
the mass proper correct?
Which mass is this from?

Misa pape marcela
Missa Papae Marcelli.
I know, that is on my native language
@FallDownAndDie palestrina wrote many mass parts, over 100. Things like this so yes it is.
@petispaghetti I'm not one to blame evils on religion unabashedly or to even say that we would be better off without it, but I sort of disagree with this. The creative drive is behind humans not depending on specifics of metaphysical worldview.
one question
why? - why would you write that?
@kevinm4435 My sentiments exactly!
agreed
@benz981 if you add words to God's words, you will have to answer for it on the day of judgement.
Agnus Dei is one part of the Ordinary of the Mass. It means Lamb of God. The Mass is as follows, 1) Kyrie Eleison 2) Gloria 3) Credo 4) Sanctus 5) Agnus Dei.
