Front End Developer Portfolio that got me Hired

- Hey Guys, I wanted to share with you my junior front end developer portfolio. I know its hard in the beginning, but If you follow my advice which is bui, ding projects based on already existing websites, like Apple, Tesla or Netflix you will get a job very soon. Use boostrap for a grid layout and implement scss and little bit of Javascript(does not need to be crazy). Once you have a few projects ready start applying and learn React in the meantime. Good Luck!
Use this tutorial for Gatsby portfolio template.

I literally subscribed because its a very simple video with no clout bs to take up time. You explained, what you did, what worked and didn't and moved on to the next thing. I hope you keep your content like this!
Thanks for watching!
Same here man, loved the transparency in his answers.
I’m getting the sense that it’s often a lot to do with where you apply. There’s companies that want to see potential and a good attitude. There’s others that expect you to be Mark Zuckerberg 🤷🏾♂️
100% agree with you! Thanks for watching!
@@sodapopjam good luck
Why would a company expect me to steal their work?
@@MaazShaikh-ji2fq lmao 😂😂😂😂😂
@@MaazShaikh-ji2fqLMFAO
Very encouraging to hear there are companies that exist that actually give realistic junior level challenges to prospective junior devs
Thank you so much for sharing! Not many people here share their actual portfolio when applying and actually talk about the thoughts of the interviewer for the projects they made.
Thanks for watching!
Surprised that you got a job with those projects. Definitely not underestimating the work, well done but these kind of projects usually make people think that you may have just followed a tutorial as they are very common as mentioned in the video.
In my case, I had 2 nice full stack projects along with some front-end ones and I still had hard time to land my first job.
Good luck everyone who is trying and putting in efforts in web dev.
I think it is wrong as a beginner looking for your first job, to include in your resume projects which concern the full stack developer.
Software companies are not looking for beginners who are full stack developers.
They usually have good employees for the front end and good employees for the back end but not in combination.
Yes you can be right if you create projects either full stack or just front end that are different and slightly more complicated with a new tech you will have better chance to get hired. But I have seen also worse portfolio which got them hired. Also, depends how you present yourself and if you are willing to learn it’s a plus
@@marty336 100% agree
uk brother luck is always there uk im sayin
@@GamingUnitesGR Are you saying that it would be better to have a project that consists of front-end only than one that consists of the full-stack?
Wow, it's impressive that you were able to use Bootstrap primarily on all your projects to get a job! That really shows the power of Bootstrap. I always thought to do anything custom with Bootstrap, you have to figure out how to customize their SASS maps and use their SASS functions. There's a lot to look at when you read into their SASS code, so it seems easier just to write your own SASS than customize theirs to fit your needs, but maybe it's a good learning experience to see how Bootstrap architected their CSS.
It’s a great tool to use!
Just use use tailwind damn
This will definitely help me in my journey. Thank you for the insights Marty. Wish me luck!
A1 Joe from Coding phase shared your story! Saludos from Mexico!!
I know its been 2 years, but I really appreciate this video
You're doing great man!! subscribed and waing for more insteresting and cool videos!! Good luck!

thanks for sharing haha I feel much more confident about my skills by looking at your projects,
just needs to hone React skills and I'm ready to conquer any interview ;)
Im studing SoftWare Engineer and im ready to graduate in next few months.I wanna start learning Javascript,Html and CSS with frameworks and be really good at it so that i can find a job remotely if its possible in the future. From where do you suggest me to start? Such a great video, thank you for sharing those tips, I just have one question, did you learn Javascript, React, Sketch and all of that in 6 months or you already know all of that?
I learned JavaScript and a bit of react. I did not know sketch just learn few hits along the way. Thanks for watching!
@@marty336 Thank you for answer, your video help me a lot 😀
when u say i hope you enjoyed this video. i really did. thnx as a self taught currently 2 months in
hey man , thanks for this video , i learnt a lot and thanks for the tips
The style and layout is nice but these all look mainly HTML and CSS with minimal react or javascript apart from the toDo app, but if you could get hired with simple projects like this then that gives me hope! Maybe the projectes I've already built are good enough or I am trying to build way too complicated projects then what is necessary for a juniour position!
Looks great, and very inspiring thanks.
Yes i really learned something useful today thanks for sharing ☺️
I feel motivated after watching your video. I am not able to get a job as a Website Developer but it's my dream. I know html, css, basic javascript, mysql and php. I can also make prototypes in figma and adobe xd but can't do photoshop. May you help me please about what i make to get a job???
Keep on going man! You have enough skills to be hired!
@@marty336 Thank You, I will try until I don't get one.
I've been learning frontend development for one and a half years, 6 months of them going to school, and not even sure if I will be able to land a job when I finish school.
You will! Just trust yourself!
Keep a positive attitude and nothing will stop you, my friend. 💪
Great video!! Straight to the point!
Thanks for the video 🙏
Can you make a video about where to look for junior front end developer jobs? I applied for tons of jobs on linkedin where it says that they are entry level jobs but never got an answer, and when I emailed companies they told me they are looking for someone with at least 3+ years of experience.
Thanks for the info brotha!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks a lot for sharing this with us .. i started last month . Lets see how long it takes for me to get to a stage to feel confident enough to apply somewhere. I guess i covered HTML and now learning CSS with some basic javaScript
Dont combine js with css, focus only on css fundamentals, especially flexbox and flexgrid, understand the logic behind how they work, after that move on slowly to javascript, play flexbox froggy and flexbox zombies, then flex grid attack game.
@@iamtrazed it's CSS grid and not flex grid.
Great!! Keep up with that!
checkout out tailwindcss , maybe in a few years we will get to play with houdini !

Which year have you become a junior? And how long it took from the start?
Last year I got my first job. It took me 6 months without any prior experience
@@marty336 Location is probably another factor that played in your favour. If there are lots of opportunities where you are it makes the barrier of entry lower I guess.
@@Kevin-jc1fx nowadays people work remotely too.
@@kissu_io That's true but do people hire juniors remotely? I think it's more for mid-level or seniors who already have past experience. That's the way it seems to be, my observations my be off though.
@@Kevin-jc1fx It's actually the reverse, where I live anyway. Juniors are hired remotely and those with experience "need" to be on-site to communicate the process with coworkers "better".
I applied for a front end web development job and they only asked me back end questions, then afterwards they said there was never a front end job. Was so confused
Does they ask questions related to data structure and algo in front end job or react job interview
@Marty: For building a portfolio do you recommend using BootStrap instead of doing it with HTML and CSS? I am a backend developer and not so much into CSS. Let me know please.
CSS isn't that difficult, I think it's a good idea to at least know how it works. Then you can use any CSS library to make your life easier, I mean realistically who's writing pure CSS these days.
@@liu-river Hi Liu - thank you for your suggestion and insight. To be honest I am an Oracle database developer and haven't worked on front end(other than Oracle Forms and a bit of VB6) at all. Coming to CSS yes, I am learning it and about to finish the "Head First HTML5" book. I really do not know how the world of css/front end works i.e. whether they use pure CSS and HTML to build websites or not. Your insight about " I mean realistically who's writing pure CSS these days." means and tells a lot about the world of CSS. Once I am done with the book, I will dirty my hands on a dummy project and then take up Bootstrap to build a nice portfolio. Of course learning JS is also part my goal for this year.
Thanks once again for your valuable feedback. Much appreciated!
You can pick up CSS very quickly! Just try and you see! Thanks for watching
If you're looking for a back-end role, you don't need your front-end to look nice whatsoever. The senior back-end developers at the companies I've worked at had portfolios with absolutely no styling. The only thing they used was things like flex and grid to simply organize it.
@@John-mj1kk A new perspective but valid though. Yes, once I am done with my front-end part (HTML/CSS,JS) I will use Bootstrap and create my portfolio as that will do some heavy lifting as far as designs/grid etc are concerned. I will then build on top of it to show case my back-end skills.
Thanks a lot Lucas for your idea too.
Why would an interviewer care so much if everybody makes a weather app? Isn't the point of a portfolio to showcase your competency? Or does the interviewer want you to reinvent the wheel and to create the next Tiktok?
Imagine you are senior dev who is charge of interview and you get 100 portfolios and 99 of them have weather apps 😂
Good presentation ❤️

Hello, how did you prepare your CV? Also, do you work globally or in your home country? Where did you apply for jobs?
Great video, thank you for sharing

Nice content bro
Very informative videos. I want to leand web development like u front. How long you've been doing this? Becaise i just started studying and learning last week. I'm doing html and css i'm not in java script yet because i want to learn one at a time so i don't get confuse. And could u give me any advice. Btw i'm 35 years of age is it late for me to learn and is there any age limit to be front end developer. Thank you.
How did you do the trustpilot widget on your Envira website? I'm trying to recreate the project but Im not sure how to add the recent trustpilot reviews. Or did you just use static html/css and write in the reviews? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
It’s only a static picture so it does not have any functionality!
thanks you

Hi thanks for the video. I try to build my own portfolio with React, what is your recommendation for hosting and costume domain name? thanks
I cant get even a intern interview what am I doing wrong? I have certificates , I am a software mentor at an international robotic team I cant understand.
Great stuff my man.. do u work from home?
Couple of days from home. I hope I will work remotely soon!
thanks man
what was your first company as a frontend developer?
Is using bootstrap elements and modifying those to build custom websites discouraged, would it be better to build projects from nothing?
Not at all I am using bootstrap till this day and I like it. It will save you a lot of time!
Can you answer this for me. When interviewed and noticed you said they gave you a design to create a site in sketch. Were all your interviews lined up like this? They give you a time frame to create their design layout and you execute?
Depends.
Depends really! But most of the time you either have sketch design and you have to make the design or they will give you other coding test 🙌
When were you hired? Thanks!
In our contry, if you want to be hired as junior developer, you should have at least 2 years hands on working experience when you are new graduated. Nice, is not it?
Which bootstrap should I learn? 3, 4 or 5? Thank you.
when was this? like when did u do all these projects and started applying?
interesting. They look soooo simple.
Thanks for your video. But can share with me a sample of your resume?
These were fantastic 💯🌱, I were not sure about including the weather project in the portfolio or not but now I have a clear idea 🌱❤️....
Btw will you create a tutorial of your property project ??👑🔥🌻
Him: this took really long like 2 weeks
Me: spends 3 months tweaking code/design, deciding it's worthless shit and restarts the project
I have question, will client gives us UI design, we have only do CSS do design it, or we have to design too?
Most of the time UX designer will give you the file on how the website should look like.
hey you reccomend using tailwind?
also in your experience do you know if its possible to get small freelance projects online if i have a good portfolio showing html, css, js, react skills?
Yes
What sites do you recommend to get UI to code with bootstrap?
3:59 Your last project was a static website?
the youtube video in your description does not work.
Thanks for letting me know! This should work now:m.ruclips.net/video/L9k0Nxxd0Bg/видео.html
Does u are taking 2 weeks , as 1 day as 24 hours and 2 weeks = (24hrs × 14 days ) Hours ???
Is is necessary to know bootstrap?I just prefer scss
Idk bro all of these are too basic atm, in Poland even if you know Nextjs you will strugle to find a job without experience sadly
how to make you website responsive ? other than media query
i have many ideas and i started implementing and those are good on desktop so i have learned media query to set that up .Then i started working with Bootstrap i got to know that i am loosing grip on css.
