Thanks for the transparency, really appreciated the openness. I have been so discouraged watching other RUclipsrs that tell you how easy it is. It has been a struggle for me to start out. I am now 40 and been working as a software engineer for about 11 months now. Changed my life. Definitely was not easy but totally worth it.
You're very welcome! I feel like I would be doing people a disservice by telling them it was easy. It was honestly hard to whole way through, I've been working as a developer for the last 3.5 years and I still struggle regularly with different problems. In software development you never stop learning and the problems only get harder but you're right, it's totally worth it! Also I like your channel and what you're doing there hope to see you continue to grow!!!
Glad I found your channel man. 30 year old here on the beginning of the journey. I work a security job dead end but the plus side is i have ten hour long shifts sitting on my ass, set my laptop up in front of my cameras and get to coding every morning. Cant wait to share my success. THanks for the inspo!
I've been looking for this type of video for so long. I don't think anybody else did something like this here. All other youtubers show their current skill, but they don't show the progression and what it took to get where they are. This video is so valuable and inspiring
This makes me feel a lot better about my own portfolio. It’s so hard to gauge when you’re ready for work. I’m still not sure, but it takes so much weight off my shoulders to see what you had when you got hired. Thanks so much for this great video!
I almost cried, I have been trying so hard and feeling like I'm not making enough progress, I'm already pushing whit React, pretty much reling solely on my Python skills... Now I decided to focus a little more on special things JS has, already finished my 1st portfolio and got really good feedback, like advice and that it was real good for my first time... I should take a break, but I feel like I can't allow myself too, TYSM FOR REAL! omg this video was up on my b-day!
I’ve been practicing front end coding for the last few months and starting to get discouraged about my path, but the algorithm finally threw me a bone by recommending this video. Thank you for sharing your journey & your portfolio, it was definitely helpful! 🔥🔥

Well done on the latest portfolio. You can tell you grew professionally, yet still keeping a sense of your personality and aesthetic with colours and animations. Loved the growth!

Hi Dorian. Just wanted to say thank you for your honesty and great content. I'm trying to teach myself how to code and get overwhelmed a lot. It's good to have someone be open and honest about how hard this career choice is but in the end how it can change my life for the better. Keep the content coming and I will continue to watch your stuff.
That is great man, thank you, especially made me understand that it is not going to be from 1 to 10 all the sudden, what you did here takes courage and I think it is a unique content.
Great video seeing your journey & progression. Start at the beginning. A lot of us think we need to be at the end from the word go & never put anything up that's not A grade. A very down to earth & honest video, cheers Dorian!
I don't think your formatting was bad for HTML, the tabs and the comments makes your code very readable. I can understand it and as a matter of fact seeing the beginning of your code in the head section reminded me that I needed to comment my meta and link tags. Coming from a Helpdesk background documentation is key, especially for the next tech to read over your documentation should it be passed on to another tech. Granted I could see some parts where the closing tags are a bit off-tabbed, but it is very noticeable and easily correctable and understandable.
Thank you for your honesty, Agent 47. I’m glad I watched your video… before I started learning. I’m really hard on myself, most of the time, so this video was eye opening.
Great video. Appreciate the "realness". Helpful information that can actually be used to keep us as beginners not only inspired to continue but have some clear direction concerning our personal portfolios. Thank you!
Awesome video man. I just learned html, css and bootstrap myself and this is extremely motivating. Seeing where you started to where you are now gives me hope, especially since my work looks similar to where your first portfolio was at the time. Thank you
Amazing video Dorian. Currently undergoing the self taught route myself it can be hard to find a gauge for progress, but this is exactly what I needed. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work!!
I'm so thankful that I saw this. I'm really having a hard time right now because I just graduated and I still don't know if I am ready into the professional world with my skillset. Thank you for giving me the confidence. After watching your video, I believe I am ready the way I am right now.
Hi Dorian, my wife is a web developer now and she seeded the idea of making me a Web Developer. I was immensely reluctant coz i didnt have a college degree, untill she showed me your first video. That changed my mindset and motivated me immensely. Ever since that day, I have been learning to code daily for about 5 to 6 hours after my full time job. It's been 2 months to be precise. Finished html, css and was on JavaScript. But decided to learn it all over again. I recently bought a Web Development course on Udemy by Colt Steele and now learning it.
