It’s all a front! 😂😂 Serious though, we were so looking forward to getting away, and I’m typing this sat riverside, in the sun at the “Rose Revived” at Newbridge waiting for our dinner after our first two hours of cruising. It’s everything I hoped for! 😊😊
Absolutely. And I do find it a supremely cathartic process too! I’m certainly in my happy place tinkering around getting her in shape for the season ahead! 😊
I'm just curious. I hadnt realised it was a petrol engine installed, but is the petrol E10 grade? The ethanol in E5 / E10 petrol is a moisture magnet and the fuel loses its grunt the longer its stored. Its also not very friendly to older rubber seals and hoses, which I imagine rubber hose would be around the carb area. It also dosen't quite smell like the old leaded or unleaded petrol. As one of my old garage mates said it smells a bit like detergent at the pump.
For me I use the E5 “Super Unleaded” 99 grade petrol which I think reduces the chances of separation. I try to keep the tank relatively full too, popping a 20 litre can in whenever it will easily fit! The guys at Sheridan Marine pulled together a comprehensive overview of the new E10 grade petrol and explain the implications of using it far better than I ever could with regards to its use in marine engines! This will properly answer your question! www.sheridanmarine.com/blog/e10-petrol-watermota-boat-engine
This was the first start for nearly 4 months, so I did maybe push it a touch! 😬 She generally starts on the button now she’s getting regularly used tho 😊
The safety labels were an eBay purchase. There’s a variety to choose from depending on your needs. You also choose colour and if you want them self-adhesive or with screw holes. Here’s a link (I have no affiliation to this seller!) I’m pretty sure they turned up the next day too! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305336143128?itmmeta=01HTMA1YHKYDT1DXW0NT99KC4G&hash=item471773cd18:g:3D4AAOSwTKJlTOuv
Aww Kool, I was wondering bout engine/motor access. Guessing the stick between your legs, when you were doin the batteries, is fwd/rev? Unless the on up near the is, and not rev/spd? The only Freeman I knew was the bloke I was at Primary School with. Is the leisure battery acid/gel or lithium? Nice goin m8, stay vertical Eh!
Yes, that is the gear lever. Forward and reverse. Throttle is separate on the dash. It actually works really nicely and doesn’t take long to get used to. The leisure battery is a deep cycle lead acid.
Hi good vidio. Can i ask on a day out maybe 5/8 hours how much fuel would you need i noticed the can. Got to get one.i have just bought a freeman dying to get out on it thanks.
I plan for around 2 to 2.5 litres per hour of cruising, but always with a contingency so we’ll never run dry. On a longer cruise downstream we’ll always have the can with us so we can take a walk to a garage to fill up. It’s much cheaper than any Marina fuel pump (£1.40 as opposed to £1.90 at the moment! 😬)
@riverthamesboating thanks for your reply. Defentley keep that in mind, for sure. Very helpful. I cant wait to pick my boat up. Its sitting down at sheridtion marina. So cant pick it up till march April, if weather permits. So our first trip will be 11hrs back to Walton-on-Thames. Thanks Mark.
Yes, we don’t have a bilge blower fitted. It’s all very basic! I always lift the bilge cover anyway to check the weed filter and feel along the fuel lines for any signs of seepage, so it’s no extra effort to air them manually each time. I’d much rather be able to see/smell if there is a problem immediately rather than just blow out bilge air not knowing if there is a slight whiff of fuel to be concerned about. We’ve not got a bilge pump either, and so rely on regular visual checks instead!
@@riverthamesboating well worth considering fitting one. I know of at least 3 explosion fires on Freemans, so no doubt there will have been a LOT more. The touch/smell test is good, but obviously only something you do initially and wouldn't stop a fire triggering after switching off in a lock or similar. One of the cases I'm aware of was gas, but presumably triggered by the petrol ignition. One of the others, the owner escaped with burnt legs, but vowed to always fit a blower to any future petrol boats. I'm amazed that it's not a stipulation of the BSS test for petrol vessels these days.
@@CruisingTheBroadsMaybe something worth considering for us then. Especially as I have additional battery capacity to tap into! Would you have the blower on constantly then? 🤔
@@riverthamesboating you're generally best to run it from an ignition feed with an isolator switch inline. You want to be running it for a couple of minutes or more before starting. With a low speed river cruiser, it's as well to keep it running all the time the engine is running, as you've relatively low ventilation in the engine bay.
@CruisingTheBroads Ahh. I’d assumed it was just a blast before starting, but it makes sense to be running it the whole time. I’d put it on a perm live feed (when battery switched on) rather than ignition live, as I’d be wanting to run it before switching on the ignition. I guess I could just get lights on but not crank tho if it was switched ignition.
It was specifically picked to be an unobtrusive and generic background track to keep the flow of the edit moving, apart from the engine start bit where it was deliberately stopped to create a touch of tension! 😬 So sorry you felt it was inappropriate and intrusive to the point that you felt you had to comment. 😢 I’m always willing to learn and improve though, so I’d be interested to know what background track you would have chosen? And “no music” is not an option as background noise and edit jumps mean something is needed to bring it all together. Thank you for the kind comment on the video content tho. That does make the effort worth while! 👍🏻😊
A lovely chap enjoying his boat and the fruits of his work. What’s not to like? Enjoy your cruising … 😀

Your videos are great, keep them coming. The wood they used for the 23s is lovely.
Thank you so much. I’ll keep ‘em coming! Welcome aboard! 👍🏻😊
As you chaps are fond of saying jolly good mate thanks for the post looking forward to your posts
Thank you. There will be more to come for sure! 😊
Looks great, all the little jobs make a big difference

A step closer to halcyon days 😊 and another great video. Thank you Will & Marji Bee.
Thanks Annie. One step closer! 😊😊
Thank you. Most informative.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!

Great vid, probably reduce the starter engagement times, stop it overheating

Nice job and looking good. Where did you get your safety signs from and did they come as a kit?

Gloy's Heat Pal Swedish alcohol heater and stove safe .Origo 5100 helps
Not quite sure what all this means, but thank you for the feedback! 👍🏻😊
Hi did you sell your boat I've seen another boat with the same name

Nice video, shame about the intrusive music, I nearly gave up!
