If Qui-Gon had survived Naboo, Palpatine probably would have to try to kill him before the Clone Wars for all the reasons you laid out. He might even have to personally do the deed since he couldn't use Dooku or even risk him finding out without losing his apprentice.

Totally agree. Qui Gon was probably the biggest threat to Palatine's plans. Too much of a loose cannon that wouldn't go along with the establishment. He was beholden only to the will of the force.

It's fun y you mention that, the short story I'm reading currently is about Maul facing down a Sith Apparition of Qui Gon, in an attempt to acquire an artifact he needed for his plan. He mentioned about how even if Qui Gon defeated Maul, that Qui-Gon would've been killed by Sidious, either directly or otherwise. I just think that Sifo-Dyas and Qui-Gon would've shifted places.

@@byrussscott2563 yes but if Qui Gon was killed by Palpy I don't think that Palpy wouldn't be discovered or that Palpy would have succeded in turning Anakin. I don't actually believe that Palpy would be able to kill Qui Gon Jin by other means than himself and even if Qui Gon Jin and Palpy fought each other I am not sure who would win in the end-Palpy had a deep fear and hatred of Qui Gon Jin-because he saw in him the possible future where his plans would fail and the jedi order woud have become more free and caring organization, also Qui Gon was unpredictable for Palpy since he wasn't thinking or acting like normal jedi would so in a possible fight to the death I actually think that Palpatine woulf have lost the battle and that Qui Gon Jin would have won, albeit heavily scared/injured from it....

@@krystalcz9251 I don't think Palpatine has hatred or fear for Qui-Gon cause Qui-Gon is a necessity for Count Dooku for him to the dark side. Palpatine needed Dooku who has distrust for both the jedi and the republic, so that's why he stage the whole thing from the occupation of naboo to being selected as new chancellor. For his plans to work needed Qui-Gon to die because he is the only one who kept Dooku turning, that's why he sent Darth Maul.

Qui-gon was THE person for Anakin's growth. It was too bad that before Qui-gon had the chance to "repair" Anakin he was killed. He seemed like the only person to care about his situation, to put in the effort and Anakin's mind would've been at ease if he knew that his mother was also in a stable environment. Anakin needed a father figure and a mentor. Qui gon was both. Sure obi wan was a mentor but never really corrected Anakin outside of admitting distaste for his actions and finger wagging. In the end obi wan was his brother when Anakin needed a father to be that positive influence during his childhood.

Seems like Qui Gon was the primary target of Palpatine. His training of Sith was brutal (what he did to Maul) and the fact that Qui Gon was Dooku's apprentice this was a blow to him along with setting forth on his endeavours and agenda with Anakin. Palpatine always seemed to want the people under him in a state of pain, to bring out the emotions needed to bring out the dark side in them but also keep them under control.

Dooku realized he strayed from the right path, and wanted Qui GOn around to get him back to bringing a better galaxy. He was right, and the republic was corrupt, but he tried to use Palpatine thinking he can outsmart him. He was wrong. Remember , there was a group of Jedi that knew the Republic was corrupt and so was the Jedis. Dooku, Qui gon, Anakin, Asohka, and the red headed guy who is going to have another video game has characteristic of a Gray Jedi. Oh and mAce windu.
Frankly there are too many people had input in Star wars, and there is a lack of direction, and this was from the beginning. There was a battle from the beginning with Lucas and his staff, but his staff has more say back then and was better quality. His wife actually saved star wars from Lucas. That is why the tone is totally different in the prequels.
The thing is, the force is based on Taoism, but Lucas wants evil, and distorted the dark side to represent evil. Others who work on Star wars try to make it follow more of taoism.
That is why you have inconsistent view of the dark side. I go by Qui gon Jin, that we need balance.

The "What if Qui Gon had lived" fan debate is one of the richest and most interesting discussions in the Star Wars fandom. Heck even Dave Faloni went on record confirming many of the fan theories about Qui Gon having the ability to change the course of the galaxy had he survived. "Duel of the Fates" refers to the "fate" of not just Qui Gon and Obi Wan, but Anakin and the entire galaxy.
Not only could Anakin have been steered on the right path, but maybe Dooku could have been able to come back to the light with Qui Gon's help as well. Ratted out Sidious and everything. With Sidious exposed to the Jedi order as well as the cloning project the entirety of the Clone Wars and the rise of the Empire could have been averted.
This is why I REALLY hope Lucasfilm creates a "Star Wars: What If?" miniseries to delve into alternate timelines like this.

Let's see. The Council already made its decision: Anakin will not become a padavan. Qui-Gon understood that there's often a difference between the will of the Force and the will of the Council and he knew how to bend the rules a little bit to satisfy both. But this time there was no room for halfway decision, the Force wanted Anakin to be trained and the Council did not. That would have stretched Qui-Gon's loyalty towards the Order to the breaking point and I'M SURE on his way to Naboo for the last time he was already planning to leave the order and disappear with Anakin.
A whole lot of misery would have been avoided: Qui-Gon still lives so Dooku doesn't fall to the dark side, Anakin gets to Tatooine on time to save his mother and get closure knowing that she is free and lives a good life now so he doesn't fall to the dark side either, the Jedi would have foolishly jumped to fight in the war anyway but once it's over and order 66 is done it's Anakin who would have given hope to the remaining survivors the same way Qui-Gon gave hope to him, to Dooku etc.

But every time Anakin had a question later on in his own training, or even if he just made a comment - especially in front of a third party - Obi Wan shot him down in flames, humiliating him and being unnecessarily critical. That shows Obi Wan to have been afraid of Anakin. When the chips went down, if not before, Anakin will have sensed that.

I've come to believe that the imbalance in the Force was because the Jedi Knights had lost whatever focus they once had and could no longer course correct. Did they ever look into the Sith lord who had killed Qui-Gon and the clear connection between the Sith and the Trade Federation? The destruction of their order was terrible, but it may have been necessary.

In a way, Qui-Gon's death acted as the last nail in the coffin for the Jedi order, and it takes an even more tragic turn of events when you remember that Qui-Gon's death happened because of the Jedi order's dismissal of Qui-Gon's warning

:) Very good, I've always liked Qui-Gons presence. Qui-Gons calm wisdom would've fit much better to Anakin's high maintenance needs. Qui-Gon (I think) would've spent time discussing and listening to Anakin whereas Obi-Wan with good intention but brick wall, black & white technique only had limited success. To most *Younglings Obi-Wan would've been fine but Anakin wasn't "Most Kids". Good video.

if ol' Jinn had lived, well, Dooku might have thought a little bit before eventually join the Sith with ol' Palp. And even more, maybe Jinn would have been trying to bring Anakin back to her mother with Dooku to train him how they wished to train him ideally. If Qui-Gon is a natural father model, well Dooku is nothing much like an old wise grandpa who can discipline and tame his "nephew" through both experience and knowledge. Jinn is very elegant and intelligent at using the Force and manipulating stuff without letting anyone notice it, Dooku is literally a walking Jedi dueling textbook. Training him in Tattoine can cut things down drastically when he can stay with his "traditional family" and grow into something both skilled in dueling and using the Force.

On the point concerning that each time Anakin lashed out it comes from love.
It's also love that redeems him, and drives him to lash out and betray the Emperor. Love for his son.

So, I have a sort-of spin-off question that popped into my head while watching this video (not that I expect an answer; I just want to toss it out there): Do you think things would have changed if Obi-Wan left the Jedi Order for Satine during The Clone Wars? We see how close Obi-Wan and Anakin are during that time, and it makes me wonder if Anakin would have opened up to Obi-Wan more if he saw his former Master choose love.
We know Obi-Wan knew about him and Padmé; maybe not the exact nature of the relationship, but he knew they were close. He might have been able to guide Anakin through those emotions better if he actively pursued them himself. It still wouldn't be the same as Qui-Gon, of course, but perhaps it would have made a difference.

Qui-Gon was the father figure anakin needed. Obi-Wan was more of a brother to him. Palpating in a twisted way ends up becoming his father figure. But he becomes the father figure that he never had in episode 6. So tragic but such a beautiful arc ultimately.

Pretty sure if both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were killed on Naboo, then EVERYBODY ELSE would've been by Maul too.
Padmé's security guards would've stood no chance against him, so she, Captain Panaka and everybody else there would've died.
Anakin would've gotten kidnapped as soon as he landed back on that hangar, if Maul didn't just kill him right there and then due to being unaware of Palpatine's plans for the boy yet.
The Gungan Army... would've been dealt with later on, since Nut Gunray wouldn't be a hostage anymore to "negotiate a new treaty", so the Trade Federation could've sent reinforcements to wipe out the Gungans.
So yeah, Maul coming out victorious out of that fight would've changed *everything.* Obi-Wan literally saved the whole census by defeating him!

So true Qui-Gon was Anakin's only hope. Had he lived we would have seen a different Anakin. Oh here's a interesting idea for a video what if Yoda trained Anakin instead of obi-wan. If anyone knew what the boy needed it was Yoda.

    • @MrDibara
      @MrDibara Год назад

Sadly, I think even Yoda was too influenced by the Order's dogma to make a difference.
True, he would've been a better mentor than Obi-Wan, but not by that much I believe. Anakin's case was trully special and Qui-Gon really was the only one at the time who could've guided him. _(maybe not even Plo Koon could've)_

From a philosophical standpoint, the Jedi Order was not a servant of the Force.
If the Force was responsible for directing and giving purpose to life, then would it not stand to reason that loving people and growing attachments is the explicit Will of the Force?
In the end, because of the Jedi Code, their belief in the Force was just as unnatural as the doctrines held by the Sith.
This is why Qui-Gon Jinn was at odds with the council.
This is why he believed in and served the living Force.
And this is why he was not fearful of love or attachments.
