You ever experience that thing where you never quite realize just how beautiful a song truly is until you simply close your eyes, forget whatever else is going on in your life & just listen? Yeah....
I'll bet even Mozart or Beethoven would like this because it's so atmospheric. Sometimes rock music could hold its own with so called "classical" music. But you don't see that very much now.
It’s all Mick J and Mick T. It’s often during this period that Micks harmony with himself produces something very very special. Many still believe it’s Mick and Keith singing together that causes that great sound. But as a musician and audio engineer I can say with confidence that Mick can sing Keith better than Keith, certainly more consistently so.
It’s a masterpiece. The orchestration, Mick’s vocals are sublime and bluesie. One of the best underrated Stones songs. Listen to this with headphones. So delicate and so powerful.

It's been 8 years since this song was posted here talking about how time goes by. This album always reminds me of being a kid in 1971. Nothing ever as sweet as that moment in time.
Drowsy moonlight fills my eyes dreaming to ride this road. Can't you hear me knocking? Riding side by side with a Steppenwolf. One more Magic Carpet Ride on the last Moonlight Mile. The headphones are pulsing while time is going by. My V-Twin roared the roads from Norkap down to Sicily... I've seen so many things the youngsters wouldn't believe. But every thing has its time. And we were lucky to be there in our old days. 70 summers and I am still rocking this spirit. 'til I lay my weary head down. Deep in the West we were Born to Be Wild... 🌘
Just heard this song and I immediately associated it with my dear big brother. He was a Rolling Stone's fan. In 1971 he was a senior in high school and I was 11 yrs old. He constantly played his albums and I used to listen. This is one of 3 that he played over & over. The others were White Room & Black Magic Woman. What a beautiful song and memory. RIP Big Brother ♥️
My Daddy loved The Stones. He played in a bunch of dives&bars in Nashville, in the late 70s/80s. I was born in 82'; so I grew up with all his wonderful records. My Daddy passed away the Summer of 2021. I love this song, and it's helped me so much with the grief of losing my Daddy. It makes me feel so close to him. I'm grateful for music, especially The Stones. RIP Daddy we miss u 💔 still. But everyday gets just a little bit easier. - Queenie

This song is lovely. It invokes the longing to be reunited with lost loved ones and that feeling we get that they're just short distance out of our reach .."just a moonlight mile down the road".
I remember, many many years ago, driving on a long journey. My buddies were asleep. I was a few hours away from home. And it was just before dawn.... what comes on my radio? Yup! I had to turn the radio off after this wonderful tune was through. Nothing but silence, and a smile the rest of the way home.

I was going to leave that comment. Mick Taylor was not happy that he was left off. There is another song he wrote too, can't think of it at the moment. I was in a band with Fuzzy Samuel in the late 70s. After the band broke up he went on tour with Mick Taylor and Alvin Lee. Wish I saw those shows!!!!

I used to listen to this album a lot w a head full of snow. 15 years away from it and I am so lucky to be healthy now. its teeth were in me for 2 years before I wised up and stopped.
I thought a very moving song and it brought the Serial The serpent to a Lovely end With the news that the hard working Detective wanted to hear .Just Sheer Magical
You know that song that you love so much? That same song that makes you melt inside when you hear it, no matter how often you hear it. It's that song you don't hear for a long time and when you do, it just takes you back to that same feeling. Kind of like a lifelong friend that you haven't seen or heard from in a long time and when you do meet up again, things just start back up where they left off. Yeah, this is that song and old friend. What a way to end one of the best albums ever made. RIP Charlie and Brian. You'll be forever missed.
Does no one notice the brilliant orchestral arrangement by Paul Buckmaster in this? What would the song be without it? There is a reason all the best wanted him. There was no one better.
"To all the young intrepids who set out with big dreams. But never made it home." yup, I cried like a baby when this started playing. Perfect ending song, they wrote it as a mashup of East Asian and Indian melodies :'(

The greatest mistake the Stones ever made was not doing WHATEVER IT TOOK, to keep Mick Taylor in the band. For starters, they could have PAID him. He was given no credits on SEVERAL albums---in other words, no residuals. In addition, his mates should have helped him with drug addiction and got him the help he needed to stay with the band. This is the most powerful song The Stones ever did. The raw emotion and depth of lyrics. The Stickyfingers album is what made these guys. The pain, the honesty of this album. This was the defining line from the Brian Jones era to the modern Stones. This album was interesting including dark songs like "Sister Morphine" and "Dead Flowers"....and this song is closure.
I bought this the LP in early 71 when it came out. I was 20 years old, and MM has bern my favourite ever, track by Stones. With a masterclass of slide guitar playing from Mick Taylor. And the superb orchestation by Paul Buckmaster. I is my understanding that it was recorded late at night with Taylor and Jagger, Keef did not play on this track. Drims and strings added later. Taylors complaint was that he was never credited on this particular track. The best album closer on LP.
4.25 to the end is IMHO one the most beautiful endings to a tune you will ever hear. Nicky Hopkins piano over Mick Taylor's noodling with the symphony strings (not forgetting Keith's acoustic and Charlies cymbals) is mesmerising. Turn it up loud. Sheer bliss.
So beautifully sublime, understated (on purpose I believe) reflection of life. Haunting, atmospheric... sad and uplifting simultaneously. Stones at their peak.

Exile on main street was close runner up
@@thunderbuttcheeks1360 and beggars banquet and let it bleed
@@thunderbuttcheeks1360 no, exile was 1st.
@@jimhen459 In your opinion. I'll take Sticky Fingers any day. Mistake was Exile was self- produced. Not cohesive.
Best Rolling Stones lineup, ever!
Woke up this morning with this song in my head. Must have been an interesting dream. Classic piece.
Awesome thought, Sir - fits the song perfectly, though I can't say why exactly.
Such a great song, the way Stones way, never gets old..
Still Az Good Az Ever! There Are many Black Blues Guitarist's Right Up There W/Mick!
68 to 76 best time for the Stones
@@williamkenney2095 Agree!
Absolutely beautiful and perfection
long live Jagger and Richard the greatest rock and roll song writers of all time
So amazing love that mick and mick team
I just lost it at 3:51 i weeped. This song is so heavy on emotional level
💦😌💦
Another sonic masterpiece by the world's greatest rock-n-roll band! Lordy above.
Gorgeous tune
4.25 to the end is IMHO one the most beautiful endings to a tune you will ever hear. Nicky Hopkins piano over Mick Taylor's noodling with the symphony strings (not forgetting Keith's acoustic and Charlies cymbals) is mesmerising. Turn it up loud. Sheer bliss.
I think Mick is playing acoustic on it, I believe Keith wasn't present during recording
Nicky Hopkins and Billy Preston don't get enough respect for their contributions to the Stones. Beatles too even
Keith was absent. Trumpet player Jim Price on piano.
Ken Mill, Keith is not on this recording. Mick plays acoustic. Jim Price, their trumpeter, plays piano
AMEN...
So beautifully sublime, understated (on purpose I believe) reflection of life. Haunting, atmospheric... sad and uplifting simultaneously. Stones at their peak.
Heard this on for the first time on The Serpent and love it.
So much soul. Still gives me the shivers...
This is one of my of my favorite stones tracks. reminds me of coming down and smoking a joint in the early hours
As a former sound engineer, this was most definitely a key wind down song. The entire album actually. But especially this tune.
