  • Speaking after her TEDxUCD 2016 talk Professor Michaela Higgins said, “We are seeing an exponential increase in cancer cases in the developing world as we improve the control of infant mortality rates and infectious diseases. 70% of all cancer deaths are occurring in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, yet nearly 90% of the $100 billion currently being used to treat cancers is spent in Europe, USA and Japan.”
“As I outlined in my TEDxUCD 2016 talk to reduce this imbalance, and taking into account that most cancers have a lifestyle or environmental cause, we need to stop smoking, eat healthily and vaccinate against common cancer-causing viruses.”
Prior to Professor Higgins current appointment, Michaela was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Consultant Physician at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
While in Boston, Michaela was involved with the development of a small oncology service over an 18-month period, at Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais in Haiti. This was with support from Partners in Health, a not-for-profit corporation working to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need, in Haiti and around the world.
She is a member of Cancer Research UK’s Clinical Trials Awards and Advisory Committee and the Mater Hospital Lung Cancer Working Group. She serves on the UCD Clinical Research Centre Executive Committee. Michaela is enthusiastic about teaching the next generation of medical doctors, and is particularly interested in global oncology.

The increase in 5 year survival rate is from early detection, not because we’re so much better at treating cancer

Lovely lady she is obviously very commited to medcine.
Professor Dan Burke provided humanity with the answer to prevention and treatatment and the difficulltys today around that same prevention and he went way beyond chemo and not smoking.

A strong, healthy body can resist most diseases, if not all. To get a healthy body, you must eat healthy foods, every day, all day. That means no sugar, no chemicals, no prepackaged foods, organic meats, lots of herbs, lots of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and plenty of pure water. Keep stress to a minimum, keep the body oxygenated with exercise and a good ventilation system. Don't drink alcohol, don't smoke, and don't take drugs, prescribed or otherwise, unless absolutely necessary. Laugh, laugh, laugh. Get sunshine and fresh air. In other words, do all the normal, natural things this world offers.

I agree with about a third of your diet regimen, but I totally agree that diet is key to preventing and reversing cancer. Cancer has nothing to do with viruses or mutated genes. It is a metabolic disorder, as discovered by Nobel laureate Otto Warburg in 1931. The misdirection by the drug czars is obvious as to motive. Their scientists are well aware of cause and cure, but they're not being paid to cure cancer, rather to promote it. When an oncologist gets cancer, he or she goes on a strict ketogenic or full-on carnivore diet, and will consider therapy only when the diagnosis was made late in the game.

Lynn Proctor humans were a hunter gatherer society we need to eat meats. Now organic meats could be that weird vegan meat and there I agree with you. But if your talking about normal meats I would disagree with you

All good! Prevention by healthy choices!!! So, Big Pharma pockets almost $200B on manufactured synthetic drugs, plus inefficient cut, burn, poison treatments, proven ineffective statistically and scientifically! Such simple measures as yours would “bankrupt” these greedy money hungry grabbers!
We need to educate and advocate more loudly, the treatments and cures from naturopathic, homeopathic, and alternative medicine, including the healthy choices you mention, albeit counter to mainstream Western medicine! We’re intelligent enough to know Big Money is quashing healthy remedies with misinformation and disinformation! But the sheeple keep believing. Generally, Big Pharma treats symptoms with pills for the ills instead of seeking causes of ailments and curing. “Follow the money.”

Completely agree that the answers lie in prevention. But people, no matter how much they try to prevent, will still get cancer. Modern day treatments have their limits especially when it comes to late stage cancers. How open are you to flexible solutions Michalea?

No, cancer shouldn't necessarily be a disease of aging. Taubes has dealt with this. Indigenous populations in Africa were observed by Western doctors to have no incidence of cancer. Similarly with the Inuit and so on.

People age faster eating more meat and other processed junk, they eat plant or unprocessed animal foods and mostly a poor diet, they live longer due to less metabolic damage

I often wonder if the unusual diet I follow would alleviate cancer. For the last 15 years, I've been living between 92% and 100% on fluid dairy products. So every day, 92 to 100 percent of my calories come from some combination of skim milk, 1% milk, 2% milk, whole milk, half-and-half, and fluid whipping cream. In my case the diet alleviates pesky eye discomfort. But I think it will alleviate many diseases. So the mom's body makes milk and cream from food she has eaten and already broken up. And when the milk and cream go through your digestive system they get broken up again by your bile. Thus when the nutrients from the milk and cream reach the cells they've been broken up twice, versus solid food nutrients only broken up once, and hence milk/cream nutrients don't clog the cells as much as solid food nutrients, and thus the cells perform better. It's not really that the milk/cream nutrients fight cancer so much as they don't interfere with cell function as much as solid food nutrients, and hence the cells work better. I also think the mom's mammary gland chooses the elements from her own food to compose the milk/cream that are the softest and most easily handled by the baby's digestive system and whose nutrients are the least clogging to the cells, hence again the nutrients from milk/cream don't interfere as much with cell function as solid food nutrients.

But how does one eat healthy when everything we buy for food is polluted ..., organic food labels are often a lie, .... The only option would be to have your own garden where you plant organic food, but who has so much time?

No Medical Oncologist should be giving talks on Cancer; unless they are going to end it with how to cure it without poisoning you to death. Unless they are educated in the natural cancer CURES! And are teaching about those.

I don't ingest sugar at all, and very, very, little carbs. Still, my fasting blood glucose is 112 mg/dl. Why? BC my body makes its own glucose from fats and proteins I eat. It has to, because my brain uses it to work, and perhaps my heart also. A low/no carb diet is good for losing weight (works for me) but does very, very little to "kill" my cancer.IMHO
