I think it was originally the personal street car of Signal Auto's owner, Kousuke Kida. There was a Super Street article way back from '99 or '00 where Kida-san took them out for a night of street racing. They said it was about 800 horsepower with the T88 they just installed.
The author of the article said Kida-san would say "camera" and point out the windsheild asbthey were speeding down the expressway. He wqs pointing out the speed-enforcement cameras. It was later explained that above a certain speed, the cameras dont react fast enough to get a picture, which was something Kida-san delighted in.
I was stationed in Japan and met him and the car personally when he came to my friend's shop in Okinawa. They were great friends (my friend Tawata San and him).
This wasn't Kidas car, this was a second GTR solely built for competition Kidas car ended up in trinidad.

I like the hook on the front, really shows the character of the car, knowing it’s been used, worn, filmed, edited out, and has so much attention the whole time. Feels like it needs more attention again

I saw it personally. The owner of Signal Auto (Kida San) and Tawata San of Blue Eye Body in Chatan, Okinawa were great friends. Tawata San used to do all the work on my Silvia S14.5 and in the early 2000's when Kida San was pushing his line of paints (Show Up), he brought the car to Okinawa. Tawata San called me down to the shop to me the owner of Signal as well as see the car. It was an incredible experience.
The whole engine pay was chromed out. Kinda San told me in circuit trim it was 700 hp at the time with the sing turbo set up. The drag set up ( Zero Yon in Japanes car jargon...0 to 400 meters...quarter mile drag race), he claimed it made 1200hp. That sounds like nothing these days but back then that was insane. Definitely one of the car scene highlights of my life.

When i used to load the dyno at Forged Performance (before the infamous HKS R35 GTR incident was publicly dumped all over the internet) it came to us for tuning on January 10, 2013. I still have all the pictures. This thing had a sequential at the time, not sure if it still does. I wont lie, it was a bitch trying to get this car on the dyno for me. It is a sweet car to see in person.

Imgaine buying this if it is ever up for sale. It is basically buying history and living in it as you drive it around. You can do a lot of things with a car this built and well put together even if there is flaws from all that Motorsports it experienced

The dumbest thing these racers do to mutilate these cars is the rwd swap to drift, taking out the ATTESA. It's basically the soul of the GTR and makes it what it is. Way ahead of it's time, the Germans are just now replicating it, BMW putting it in their M cars. Couple that with no HICAS, it's basically a Silvia.
