Hi Hifiruleszzz. I've worked on so many of these machines. The cause of the fader going down during calibration is due to the orange caps in the erase head / bias generator circuit. The orange caps can cause so many illogical problems that you would not have thought these caps could cause. Or it could be that Frankenstein work done on the power supply section that's screwing up the voltages. I should watch the follow up video on this machine to see how you go.

Looks like this unit was in a hot climate as the nylon looks yellow on the transport

I have a ZX7. It's normal behaviour that the left master fader llights up when starting the calibration mode

My favorite Spaghetti Incident deck! :) The only deck in the world able to calibrate an ABSOLUTE Azimuth for any cassette... it's a bit uncanny though how it does work seeing all the plastic gears involved. And I'd be very very tempted to try retrobriting that plastic.

@audio technika How reference deck can be a trash ?) Not this one for sure ) Trash is something which thrown away or given away for free . I would agree if ZX-7 were sold for few tens of euros or bucks ) They are not even in bad state )

the rec led blinking intermitently looks like something isn t making contact well.
I suspect half of the remaining problems are bad solder joints.
I also saw a missing diode at the beginning of the vid (around 3:16, D402, also missing a solder pad).

I believe it is a power undersupply issue, they installed a 1.5A IC on the +5V line when the original transistor keeps 3A.

Wow. That poor deck has a ton of issues. I wonder if it got hit by a power surge or something? Do you think you will be able to fix the logic board issues?
