Back in January, we brought you Steven Tyler's "Star-Spangled Banner" performance and asked how it stacked up to the worst-ever performances. (Your leading vote-getter was Roseanne's regrettable 1990 crotch-grabbing rendition.)
We think we've found something even worse from tonight's Dallas-Los Angeles MLS match. Normally, we wouldn't post something that made fun of a little kid, but this particular child publicly refers to herself as a "singer-songwriter" and any kid who has that much pretension at age 11 deserves to be knocked down a few notches. (Seriously, look at her fucking website.) We actually witnessed this as it aired live, but held off (again, because it's a little kid) until enough of you emailed us about it that we're giving in. Plus, this nearly three minute long rendition really is so bad it must be heard to be believed. Somebody should point her in the direction of Drew's post. [NBC SN]
fergies daughter

That's the first time I've ever seen the national anthem treated as a crime scene.
I saw an interview with this girl after the fact and she stated she was a fan of Christina Aguilera and was trying to sort of do performance like Aguilera that was what messed her up because Aguilera's version was pitchy and a general train wreck. not really something you would want to emulate. she also stated she couldn't actually hear herself and that threw her off too. She has a strong voice that is evident even though she wasn't at her best in this performance.
Aguilera...oh, that was the wrong role model! She still did a much better job than Aguilera. I actually thought the little girl sounded OK even though it wasn't her best performance.
Same.
What messed her up was trying to sing like Christina Aguilera. Aguilera’s version was cringy. I’m sorry but it was. I’m sure this girl would have sounded fine if she just sang it normally
This happens when parents build their kid's confidence up more than they should. Lol
Gave her confidence to try? She did a good job! She was just nervous and she was a CHILD.
How hateful you are... no comments
But then one day...
Indonesia suddenly realized they sent in a possibility for ear lawsuits or irritated sensible people. I bet there was a lot
barrbarr31u I agree 100%,
She is actually a really good singer it's called nerves.
she managed to make a 40 second song last nearly 3 minutes. true talent right there.
Ouch...the faces of the audience.
Collective jaws dropped.
Lmao.some rich ass Texas dude definitely paid to have his daughter up there
vasher6 she is 11. She is only a kid.
sing it so lol
if you search her name she is actually really good
she redeem herself in American Idol
she coulddnt hear herself and that threw her off key
RememberItsMia yea
What's frustrating is that her voice isn't all that bad. It's terrible phrasing and that sluggish pace that kills it.
you can hear her taking FULL BREATHS
Can we get Jojo Siwa to sing the national anthem
she can actually sing because you can hear the vibrato in her voice and she has a strong voice she just doesn't hit the right notes
It's too bad she didn't have a chance to practice in a large setting. It sounds quite different than practicing at home or at school. Even some adults don't know that if they've never tried singing in a stadium.
Fergie had a lot of vibrato.
in her interview she said she couldn’t hear herself and that threw her off key

Enjoying that gum ma’am?
Josh ➊, XD
LMAOOO the more i rewatch this scene the funnier it gets
Which gum? the one she's chewing or the massive ones on top of her teeth?
0:36 the man's reaction in front of the blonde one😂😂
I don't think it was the worst version ever, she was just singing it very slowly.
2 minutes and 52 seconds for the national anthem? hell to the no
I know. Most people usually take about 1:25 to get through the national anthem.
omg my ears:(( for those of u saying she's only 11, ariana grande sang the national anthem at age 8 and killed it!!!
Anjalie Gowda you don't need to be cruel. Would you sing without nerves
The idea isn't that she can't sing because she's eleven (with the right training and talent, people from pretty any age group can sing), the idea is that you shouldn't be mean about it because she's still a child.
This kid is also 11.

Ur an idiot. Not everyone has the same voice as fucking Ariana Grande. And yes, voice is very much different when ur younger.
Thumbs up to the crowd for not booing her. They just laughed it off.
I just read that the mic had a 2.8 second delay that she wasn't told about, and couldn't figure out what was happening. She was waiting to hear herself come back to herself before going to the next word. She was 11 years old. I get it
I think she has a good voice, she's just overcompensating, she's singing very very slow, and doesn't know how to sing this song, but she's 11 so who cares, she's just a kid
Reminds me of the bombing alarms
You are over-reacting.
Their clapping because it is over
Janae Bryant do you have to be rude. She is 11
They're clapping because they have manners. That little girl should be praised for trying, even if it wasn't perfect the first time she sang in a huge arena.
Didn't know about this until Yahoo led me here. I'm a long-time singer of the Star Spangled Banner, both solo and chorus from when I was about 12 (I'm 51 now). I think she actually did quite well. She stayed on key (which is most important) and she has a good strong voice to back it up. She knew the words, too. I'm not a fan of all the flourishes, but I blame all the divas that came before. Tempo was definitely too slow. She should have had someone there to help her keep time. I would peg it at 5.5 to 6/10. Definitely not the worst public rendition I've ever seen, by a long shot.
Disgrace to our country
@@amyk8238 But our country, the thing people died for is a little more important than someone on a mic.
1:07 "wtf?"
She's from TX. Give her a break. Imbreeding gone bad.
jzizzles I’m from Texas
Part of me wants to congratulate her for being corageous to sing the anthem, the other part tells me to slap the hell out of her for butchering it.
You didn't ever make a mistake? She was a little girl? 11 years old. Give her a break!
It's really sad that everyone is being so mean to this young kid, she's just a young girl who has the confident to do something that most of us can not or will never have the gusts to do. I hope her parents are shielding her from all these hurtful/ mean comments. It's almost like bullying a kid, except these comments are probably being left by kids and adults Haley you're only 11years old you have so much time ahead of you to grow up and work on your vocals if singing is your dream as your voc
Thank you!
She wasn't that bad for an 11 yr old. I've heard worser
She's actually got impressive timbre for her age. She just needs to work on singing in key (really, really badly).
Well, here I am 10 years after the fact searching for this video because this little girl grew up and actually has a [very good] album coming out, and apparently was an American Idol favorite. THIS, however, was her legacy for years to overcome.
Lessons learned: People are evil and full of unnecessary hate because I can guarantee this was NOT the worst version of this song I ever heard (Roseanne anyone?), and, secondly, no matter how much people try to take you down you can still overcome it and prove to them they were wrong.
Cheers for her courageous attempt then of a very hard song sung publicly, and Cheers to her success now.
👌A wise and compassionate comment.
she's not bad at all. it's just nerves. I think she's good.
Finally, somebody with a little sense and compassion! I agree. Maybe it wasn't her best day, but she still did a good job.
she sucked
i agree, she just sang it too slow and was off key, it’s not that she has a bad voice.
when a blonde girl is singing the anthem you know its going to get bad
Fergie in adolescence
I don't hear what's wrong g with it, other than it being slow.
okay I didn't watch the video through before commenting and after I commented I heard the 'high note' part which didn't go so well..
tbh, I wasn't putting my right hand over my heart, i was putting it over my mouth
im soo sorry but i mighy have been rolling on the floor laughing
Imani Elliott I’ve been looking for this comment lmao
Nice voice, a little slow. Overall all not as bad as people make it out to be. Especially not for an 11 year old. I’m sure super nerve racking to sing in front of 20,000 for the first time. Plus acapella. The anthem is notoriously not the easiest song either. God forbid you start too high. There’s no way to go from there. What is easy however is to criticize instead of encourage. While she has a lot of room for improvement, she did an amazing job given the circumstances. Kudos!
You don’t have to start the race at the finish line.
Did this remind anyone of certain frequencies of tornado sirens?
Shut UP!
I'm sure you don't want be bullied, but you're already doing it.
Wow shame on U people picking on a 11 year old. People U all need 2 realize (1) she was nervous (2) she said she couldn't hear her own voice (3) what if that was Ur child People that made those mean ignorant comments about a beautiful little girl that is only 11 U should be ashame. Harper U are a beautiful little girl sorry people are a little immature when U were on the news I thought 2 myself I need 2 2 say Harper what U did takes courage ignorant people don't listen 2 them. U showed them
Yes! This lack of compassion on RUclips is really discouraging. When did people become so cruel and hateful, especially to gang up on a child who tried hard?
"U" need to stop. She butchered my ears. I don't give a shyt she's 11. Some rich ass tycoon dad paid for her to get up there.
Donn Godfather Bruh she COULDNT HEAR HERSELF search up ‘Harper grace rip’ it’s her singing that and she can ACTUALLY hear herself this time
You can see nobody thinks this is good
1:50 look at the little girls face LOL
Any deity who "allowed" her to sing like that was doing the OPPOSITE of God's work!
yoadrie god brought her down here on earth so I don't get your point
Good one:) @@beyourweirdself7235
I I thought Rebecca Black was bad
Rebecca always knew how to sing, wtf are u talking
haha. i saw her literally every day a few years ago. and i hung out with her all the time. look at her videos. they’re better😂😘
So, she CAN sing, but she had a rough day. She did look cute.
@@amyk8238 Ok, we get it. You're her relative.
I do not know what is worse, Kneeling or listening to this kid sing the Anthem
**Fergie Left The Chat**
💩💩
love the little girls at the 1:50 mark w their hands on the wrong side hahaha...
2:05 - 2:12 those two ladies in the back share my reaction
She was probably nervous I mean she did better than Fergie
This is a perfect example of THE ONLY time auto-tuning is acceptable...
Not as bad as Rosanne Bar's
I'll give you that!
"No honey, you aren't ready. But if you work hard, someday soon you will be."
I blame the parents (and the FC Dallas employee who obviously didn't make her audition) who couldn't be honest with their kid.
I ask that you follow up with her now. She's amazing.
Sadly, caterwauling of the National Anthem has become routine over the past 40 years! It must have been excruciating to sit through this long, drawn out travesty. I guess the idea of having an experienced, mature singer with a beautiful voice render it in a normal, respectful manner would be seen as hopelessly old-fashioned and square today. I'm sure there will be many more to follow! It's almost too embarrassing to watch!
It was funny actually my dad and I were watching the game on tv and laughed our asses of haha
sauceboss she’s just a kid shut up
LMAO This is what happens when you let the bosses spoiled 11 yr old niece get her way...
0:33 what
this was so bad it revived my dead great grandfather to come to my room just to turn it off and then die again
You guys are all going to get kicked off of youtube. They have guidelines to what you commet
I wish!
she clearly has potential. she probably just got nervous...
I immediately had to remove my headphones and wear earmuffs once I heard her singing
what has been heard cannot be unheard
Uhhhhhhhhhh no comment
i wouldn’t say this is “horrible” she just sang it a little too slow and was off key. in her interview she said she couldn’t hear herself and that’s what threw her off key. either way, she’s only 11. probably was just nervous
This is what we get for letting people remix it when they sing it and convince little kids it's the best thing to do.
As a person that has been terribly abused , and bullied by the public at age 10 and still to this day, because of my music videos, I will not put a negative comment here. I would instead praise her as an 11 year old child that had the guts to go out and sing one of the most difficult songs , in a very stressful situation of a crowd of thousands, Its easy to sit back and comment in the comfort of your home anonymously while the child reads these comments and cries. Bullying in any degree stinks
There's another video and she can sing. And I believe when someone singing that bad the rest of the crowd should join in and sing along with her. Not bash her. We all need to find a way to support one another and not tear each other down, with harsh words.
It's not good but not horrible
Ariana sings the national anthem when she was 8 years old
You expected an ordinary kid to sound like Ariana Grande? That's unrealistic.
Amy K well? ariana grande was a normal kid when she sang the anthem at 8, and this girl isn't exactly normal she is a singer and songwriter so she is expected to be atleast a little good
Her voice isn't bad it's just she wasn't prepared which adds even more stressed. There were technically difficulties and she didn't understand how to sing without hearing her voice. It's probably her first time singing in front of a crowd, which is the probably since it's so large and on live television. Now, she is on American Idol and is doing much better.
See this is why we can't be scared to tell people our honest opinions about their work, so they can get better. I blame all the people that she practiced in front of and told her "great job sweetie!"
it’s not that she has a bad voice, she just was off key and sang it too slow. in her interview she said she couldn’t hear herself and that’s why she was off key. she was only 11 tho and was probably nervous as well, she shouldn’t have gotten this much hate, no one is perfect
She is only 11
Not anymore. She's now 16 and on American Idol!
hahahahahahahahhaha Faces of ppl from crowd, priceless :D
She was good what ya mean
i immediately thought of the announcer from Goon:
"Well that was borderline treasonous, and a disgrace to our nation and its proud and storied history.."
Problem with people in this country nowadays is that they use an opportunity to sing the national anthem as an audition for nothing more than their own personal gain in the hope that they will become famous. The singing of the national anthem should be an opportunity to sing it from the heart and create a feeling of patriotism and love of country among those gathered for the sporting event.
And people are instantly forgetting that Rosanne Barr's rendition of the national anthem was a thing. I mean Harper's wasn't good. It was terrible. By no means it was the worst ever.
30 years of over-the-top melismatics is more than long enough. It's time to put it to rest. Teach kids to sing straight-up. Sing the notes. Draw attention to the message and not yourself. The culture did this performance, not a very talented 11-year old. She was amazing in her grace dealing with the whole thing. Shame on people.
Poor, thing. Did nobody audition her to know how she would sing this? With out an audition she was set up for failure. God bless her little heart she has come back from the hate and bullying she received due to her unfortunate performance.
I have to say that people in the USA (at least hte one in the stadium) are really really really polite to stay calm hearing this. Anyway i think that the meaning of a national anthem of a country is something more than a "bad performance".
omg! WTF! Disaster... RIP USA :|
Those soccer players look embarerssed for her.
Pretending that this is acceptable because she's a child will only create a greater disconnect between herself and reality, which can only bring grief later in life. Children should not be immune to reasonable criticism.
Hopefully she received a gold "Participation Medal" from some hated outfit like Comcast or Anheuser-Busch.
My cat is going berserk.
I hate people who hates people trying their best but ended up badly
god damn, I lost my ears in a river of blood...
Whe your mom tells you we have jojo siwa at home.
2:09 now if y'all look at the woman's reaction lmaoooo
This anthem is so good at being bad
Sang her heart out. Kid did great! Other comments are just heartbreaking to read. This is why the US has a high rate of mental health problems. Americans have a hard time seeing the good in people.
still prefer her over Justin Beiber
North America is a big and rich continent with many possibilities,it was simply a paradise for inventors, bankers, criminals,it has nothing to do with US today,so please stop changing the subject
I blame the parents....stop lying telling your kid they can sing when they suck lol
Wow. So many people raging about "Omg it's still pretty because it's our national anthem! No matter how horrible it sounds!"
...Well. Here's a fact. She has no ear for music, or so it sounds. It sounds like she tries to fit the whole song for couple of same styles of singing, clearly not realizing that it doesn't work if it's not planned carefully to work by the notes she's supposed to sing.
Tbh ._. I don't know what she tried to sing with the tones she just used...
*Shrug*
you're right in what you say here; but in life I had seen people who did things atrociously really vastly improve with work, to the point where they did well. I think it can be so discouraging to be made to believe that because you're bad at something, you can't get good with work. It's discouraging even in adulthood, she's only a child.
Watching America's Got Talent is not a replacement for singing lessons.
