If you watch The Sparks Brothers documentary you'll see that this was more in response to Music Industry mogul advising them what to write and not an attack on Dance Music. You'll see throughout their existence they've made many dance tracks.

What I understand there're at LEAST three mixings; a longer one and the two DIFFERENT from eachother from the US edition and European edition. Could be more, I'm not so well read about this album. But, when it comes to dance music Ron and Russell tend to have more than two or three versions.
Jane Wiedlin could be on one of them.
Anyway, she was in two tracks on 'In Outer Space', 'Cool Places' and 'Lucky Me, Lucky You'.

Not really. it's not strong enough, and whatever bite it had originally has been utterly removed from this version. How could anyone tell this is supposed to be slagging off the bubblegum identikit bullshit churned out by big corporations, and/or the like by that old slag madogga? It's just not there, and I think could have done without that: "Get up dear, get up and try..." whole middle-8 as it comes off more embarrassing and needless than anything else. I know Ron was writing weirder than weird in 1982 with titles like 'Mickey Mouse', 'Tarzan And Jane', about cigarettes having a life and moustaches, but they were all more catchy than this, if only we knew what it all meant.

My favorite song from the movie! I've been buying illegal burned copies off of Ebay for the last 20 years and not all of them had this track. So excited they finally re-released the film and I got to record in on my DVR off of Showtime. I was also super excited to meet Bill Allen when he came to my town's movie theatre. Rad is both mine and my husband's favorite childhood movie. Something that we realized when we first started dating and I drove 60 miles to rent the movie as a birthday present for him from the closest Blockbuster that still had it available to rent. The manager pulled me aside and made sure I fully intended on returning the video. Happy to report that I did!

Music that you can dance to
That and that alone is enough for me
    Stark naked modern music
Hotter than your momma will ever be
Music that you can dance to
Cracks you like a whip, but it feels so right
    Outside the world is colder
Every single night, it's another fight
So what's it gonna be? (gonna be, gonna be)
    A symphony tonight? (tonight, tonight)
Perhaps a little jazz? (little jazz, little jazz)
All I wanna hear every day, every night is
Music that you can dance to
Every single beat where it ought to be
    Lip smacking good, good, music
That and that alone is enough for me
So what's it gonna be? (gonna be, gonna be)
    A symphony tonight? (tonight, tonight)
Perhaps a little jazz? (little jazz, little jazz)
I gotta, gotta move to the beat, to the beat tonight
    (tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight,
    tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight,
    tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight)
    Get up, dear
    Get up and try
    Get up, dear
    Get up and fly
    Get up, hon
    You're the one
    Get up, hon
    Son of a gun
    Shake it, dear
    Don't be shy
    Shake it, dear
    Right in my eye
    Shut up, dear
    Don't be weird
    Get up, dear
    The boys are here
Music that you can dance to
Get yourself in tune for the real McCoy
    No heavy message, baby
Just the perfect blending of sex and noise
    Get up, dear
    Get up and try
    Get up, dear
    Get up and fly
    Get up, hon
    You're the one
    Get up, hon

    Shake it, dear

Sparks's? They are still going strong, or the strongest ever!
2020 their 25th album (more, counting everything) 'A Steady Drip Drip Drip' came out.
Edgar Wright's documentary on them, 'The Sparks Brothers', did premiere in January at the Sundance Film Festival. Is to be released very soon in the US and the UK, the rest of the world is eagerly waiting for information.
The opening film for the Cannes Film Festival is 'Annette', a musical directed by Leos Carax, original story, music by Sparks, lyrics by Sparks and Leos Carax. Staring Adam Driver and Marion Cottilard.
They are also working on the next album, since the 2020 tour is postponed to 2022 May-June.
Those gentlemen were born on August 12, 1945 (Ron) and October 5, 1948 (Russell).
Maybe you knew this already, but if someone who didn't reads it, I'm happy 😃! 💖

Cru Jones doin’ random tricks outside the dance venue always made me chuckle. Then young Lori Laughlin one-upping him by jumping over his bike, looking so cute but mysterious.

90s? Sparks ahead of time... As usual.
This was released as single 1985, on the album 'Music That You Can Dance To' 1986. 1990 the album was re-released, slightly different, new sleeve, new name 'The Best of Sparks; Music That You Can Dance To', but this song was still on the album, in the same version.
So 5 + something years after it's first release people were ready for this. The reason Sparks isn't more known than they are 🥴.
I hope and believe the documentary on them, by Edgar Wright, will make a difference 😃😍🤩!
