      If push comes to shove, this is my favourite Sparks song, precisely because of the subject matter. '
      It's such a poignant song as well, got me thinking about how incredibly lucky I am to have made it out of there and get the chance to feel the sun, although being Scottish, it's been more about feeling the wind and the rain, but hey ho, can't complain!

As for Dep Mode, they could NEVER sound like this, though they'd love to sound like Sparks, when not doing twatty stuff like 'Just Can't Get Enough' and the insipid boredom of 'See You' and as for what they became in the 90s, ugh!

    Great song and video. Thanks for posting! Interesting to note: In 1979 (when this came out), two years *before* MTV began (1981), most American groups and artists were not making videos to accompany their songs. When MTV began, ushering in the 80's, it was mostly British bands (e.g., Duran Duran) that were ready with videos for their hit songs which helped bring about the so-called "Second British Invasion", shutting out a lot of Americans. Until they could catch up a few years later. Sparks seemed to be way ahead of the game.

      Must add, Sparks made their first video 1974; 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us', maybe heard of that song? 😭😉
      But the last half in this one... 'Thriller' came 1982. Hm...🤔 Jackson was always going after new sounds and inspiration. Only a thought, not any statement.

    I'd heard of Sparks before, but up until a couple days ago, I never once listened to any of their songs. Now that I have at least a working knowledge of their discography, I have come to the following conclusion:
    The Brothers Mael have been endowed with the power of clairvoyance.
    We don't know for certain which deity granted them this gift, nor do we know the conditions under which they must adhere in order to retain their ability to glipse into the future. All we can surmise is that their foresight extends at least five (and maybe even seven) years away.
    That's why, no matter what they're doing-be it creating a made-for-MTV music video in 1974, or an electropop track in 1979-they always seem like they're several years ahead of their time. They foresaw what was to come, and frequently attempted to recreate it in the studio, often to great success.

We all know it was done in collab with Moroder, you don't need to bombard every single comment to remind us! I would point out Sparks have recorded around 25 albums, precisely 2 (well realistically 1.5) were produced by Moroder. That's somewhere around 5% of their total output. No criticism of Moroder whatsoever, but let's be honest, would he ever have had the imagination to write a disco song about sperm? This is as much Mael + Mael as it is Moroder, plus the mighty Keith Forsey on drums, and the backing singers in the chorus (I believe they were called Jack and Dennis, would love to know more about them and how they felt about singing about being sperm....)

    As well as quite literally being one of the best dance tunes of all time, it has to be said how great quality this video is. Most stuff from 1979 looks really grainy and lo-res. This looks like a million dollars, almost like a lost episode of Dr Who, Really good production values, and absolutely a prototype for Thriller. Werewolves were massive in the late 70s/early 80s, weren't they? All we need is Jenny Agutter in a nurses' uniform to make this video complete 🙂

    • @RebirthRadio2023
      @RebirthRadio2023 4 года назад +2

      @@annabackman3028 There's all sorts of different mixes, but they all came out around the same time. The single version in the video seems to be an edit of a massive eight-minute long extended version which features the normal three verses plus amazing middle section, then the breakdown you hear on this followed by a repeat of the first verse, with that "helicopter" synth noise. This version misses out the whole middle section of the above, jumping straight from verse 1, followed by the chorus, into that mini breakdown and repeated first verse. This is definitely an ahead-of-its-time way of making songs IMO, starting with a really long, complicated dance tune then editing it down to make a radio-friendly three minute pop tune, as opposed to starting with a normal song and extending it with funny noises for another five minutes!

      Kraftwerk?...el sonido de Sparks (al igual que la mayoría de Punks, Rockeros, Glam, Progressive, Krautrock's Convertidos de finales de los 70s como Depeche Mode, Ultravox, OMD, Numan, Joy División, Throbbing Gristle...etc) parten y se forman del EDM Concreto de Giorgio Moroder bajo los géneros matrices y primarios de esta escena electronica HI-NRG, Synthpop y Electro (primera fase del EDM Concreto 70s / 1987-1980).
      Sparks está siendo producido por Giorgio Moroder y el sonido y base del EDM Concreto no se forja del Progressive Rock Aleman & Krautrock Dusseldorf de los muchachos de Conny Plank (Kraftwerk) xd.
