So glad you said to use cotton batting. So many videos don't when showing how to make potholders. Found out the hard way that polyester batting will melt if your pot/dish is too hot.
Me too! Learned in high school and a little here and there but not at 69 I really enjoying sewing and I have the material to start a quilt but a little gun shy🤷♀️
Cheryl you are fabulous. Your students must have learned so much with you. Your patience shows. I love your tutorials. I’m going to make these potholders. Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge.
I really like this tutorial. Potholders are a must have in the busy kitchen, plus, they also make nice gifts. Thanks for your knowledge and instructions. You're such a great teacher!
@@TheSewingRoomChannel I knew it. You just have such a calm, patient manner. You are my favorite sewing instructor. Thank you for all of your help and inspiration you have provided to me.

My grandma just recently passed and your video just makes me so full of joy. she was a master seamstress and quilter and I plan to continue her work. thank you for this tutorial 💐❤️
Very cute potholders. I like them all, but the cream and black with roosters is my favorite! Beginner quilter here. This may be my first project. Thank you.
These are just right! I am going to start tomorrow and will make one of each since my pot holders are in terrible shape! Thanks for your many many wonderful tutorials, Sherrill! Pat
What a timely reminder. As I put all my CHRISTmas potholders and towels away, I remembered that the drawer was emptied of the everyday old torn and tattered potholders. Now I'll make all new ones! 😉
These are all great, thanks for sharing. Have a thing for potholders. Like them to match my aprons. Can be any design just like the fabric to match lol. These fit the bill 😊🌻😊
THANK YOU VERY MUCH . I LOVE TO WATCH ALL YOUR VIDEOS. YOUR TUTORIALS SO CLEAR AND UNDERSTANABLE. I ALSO LOVE ALL THE LOVELY, NICE AND CUTE FABRICS THAT YOU USE.

Dear Sherrill greetings from South Africa ad I don't have internet I would go to my friend's place just to watch your tutorial.I was asked do I know what is a jelly roll I thought it was something like jello and custard. I'm a 68 year old I do have a sewing machine cotton and scissors that is all I have. So finding out what jelly roll cost in south Africa R699 per that's half of my pension.but I'm so inspired by your quilting knowledge.
Hi Debbie. It is wonderful to hear from you. 😍You can cut your own jelly roll strips. There are many different prints and solids in each roll. The strips are 2.5" wide by 42" long. You can cut up old clothing, and use left over scraps and stitch it into a quilt. Anything goes with using jelly rolls. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.
Hi Sherrill, I love your videos, you are so Inspiring. And I know I’ve told you this before, but I just love you choices in fabric! They pretty colors, designs, they’re fun and make me feel happy. So far I haven’t had any luck at finding those fabrics, but at least I see yours ☺️ As always, have a wonderful week. 💖💜💖 Chris-Raleigh NC

You make sewing look easy!!! Thank you so much for all you do for us, beginners! I have a question. If I don't have cotton batting, can I use 2 layers of insulbright?
Hi Fairy. The Insul-Bright package instructions say to use 1 layer of Insul-Bright and one layer of cotton batting. I recommend to follow the package instructions for the best use of their product. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
I enjoy all your tutorials. I'm fairly new to quilting and it seems so easy for you to use the rotary cutter. I don't have that down yet. What kind of cutter and size do you use? Thank you for helping us newbies.
I recommend you get a 45mm rotary cutter, and a 24" x 6 1/2" rotary cutting ruler. Walmart is half the cost of Joann Fabrics and Crafts. Most rotary cutters work the same. Thanks for watching. Happy sewing. 😍
Thank you Sherrill for this video. My daughter asked me a question that I could not answer and thought maybe you would know, could you tell me why fabric companies call their precuts layer cakes, jelly rolls, and honey buns, all after food 🤔. Thank you
Hi Shirley. I recommend using 100 % cotton batting in oven mitts and pot holders along with 1 layer of Insul-Bright. The 80/20 batting has polyester and it is not recommended using it when it will come in contact with high heat. Stay safe. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.
