One thing is interesting,e46 oilpan plug is hollow,so it cracks before you hurt oilpan when overthitening it,but it seems newer ones doesn't...🤔 Greetings from Estonia!
Sorry....that's not correct. The steel plug WILL strip the threads in the Aluminum oil pan before it would think about cracking. Please do NOT over tighten.....Torque to 25 Nm per BMW spec. with new crush washer
@@abimmernut Belive me,it have happened with me😃 The head of the Bolt snaps and with extractors(easy out or how they call them( you can turn the e46 oilpan Bolt out,no damage to oil pan happened.
I made the mistake once doing the oil change this way by removing the filter first before opening the filler cap and draining the oil, of course oil spilled over from the oil filter housing. So I have found that to avoid that mess, I open the oil filler cap first then drain the oil and change the filter last and that makes the change a lot cleaner.
I use LL-01 and change oil every 15,000. Kilometers! Call me silly, but I just don't trust BMW (or any manufacturer for that matter) when they say 25,000km-interval/life-time fluid/maintenance-free and such.
Agreed. I think it is really pushing it, the higher -end manufacturers did this I believe to include “free maintenance” with their vehicles to make leases/purchases more enticing Without tying up their dealer techs too often from more lucrative services. The problem is and I’ve seen it many times is the oil level will drop before the maintenance is due and many owners think they don’t even have to check it for 15,000 miles. Hey BMW and the salesperson told me I don’t have to change it for 15,000 miles…
@@cardo1111 Maybe if 25000km is done, the owner should change the oil filter midway. say at 12500km or earlier to be safe. I heard these oils can last very long before degrading. but am not sure if the oil filter can hold up that long.
@@MrAcc45 There are high quality filters out there that can likely go the distance, my main concern is people getting lax on checking the oil during the long service interval and BMW's are known to consume some oil.
My N54’s drain plug faces straight down.. I’ve never seen that on another one 🤷🏻♂️ it’s not a repair either, there not a spot where it was ever on the side. I actually had to order crush washers, because it’s different from the one that comes with the filter.
@@freestyle648 interesting. I fixed BMW's for a living and everytime I see a an N54/52 drain plug facing down is eaither an Xdrive ot manual transmission
Hands down the best BMW channel on RUclips.
If every BMW owner actually did this JUST occasionally, life would be so much easier :)
Great tip numbering the ratchet teeth on the jack post 👍🏽

With the jack stand points, while strong, I like placing a rubber insert in there just to take the load off the plastic edges.
The sponsor website is very good. They even have options for upgrade parts that is better than OEM.
This will definitely help some newbies. Another great video. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Nice work. I need to do this in my e93 and you just gave me the best reference to do it. Cheers from Australia.

It looks like the E90 filter replacements are slightly easier on than on an E46.

I subscrive, thumps up. thankyou for your info, so much easier to service my 328i s.
Call me nuts but I change my Z coupes oil every 3,000 miles ... and it’s my daily ...
You can safely do 5,000-7,000 miles. I recommend 5k for short trips and 7K if you do a lot of highway driving
You’re not gonna hurt the car by changing it that often. 👍
Need help pressure regulator on fuel rail ... Where does vacuum pipe go ? E46 328i

Very helpful video! What oil do you recommend for 2007 328i with 150k miles?
The standard 5w30
