I did a bunch of studying on all the ways to get my cat to use the Litter Robot 4 I bought. After I set it up, she jumped in and used it before I started any possible training and before I got it set up on the app. I was in shock as she is typically so skittish and nervous. Honestly, I think it had more to do with the type of litter in the Litter Robot 4 versus what I used in the box. She tolerated the litter I used in the box but liked the clay more than the pine pellets. So, she went with the box that had the preferred litter. Oh, and she is still not bored by stopping it mid-cycle. I think it's her favorite pastime.
@@philipbloom Oh, I know. I was definitely lucky. I was prepared for a long struggle. Thankfully, I didn't have it. The only thing that makes sense to me is that she preferred the clay, which I hadn't used for a couple of years. When it became available again, she was happy to show me how much she preferred it. She still has a box with the pine pellets but hasn't used it.
Did my cats take to my Furrytail Automatic Pro Litterbox right away? Yes. Did I already retrain one to use it after she caught the Furrytail doing a cleaning cycle? Yes. Do I have a current project due tomorrow that I should be working on? Yes. But I'll be damned if I don't stop everything to watch this man's amazing videos. They are well shot, researched, and entertaining. Please don't stop sharing your amazing talent!
I also recommend getting a covered regular litter box as a step to the robots. If they are unused to being covered over head they may balk more than those who have always jumped into an enclosed box before. I still keep a regular box in with my LR3, LR4 in one of the places I keep boxes, I have an LR4 in the main living space as well covered with a homemade wooden box for asetics. In case of a power outage ALWAYS keep a non powered box around. They still use the regular box on occasion, but as proof that the regular scooping action is their preference, they use the LR's far more. My guess is they all go at once after feeding and sometimes all the boxes are occupied so someone goes there. I have 6 cats. 4 total boxes, 3 LR3/4, 1 covered regular. None of my cats took long to transition. To be fair though, 4 of them were kittens from the two adult cats mating litter of cats. Mom, dad, and 4 offspring. The "kittens" were about 8 months old at the time I introduced LR3, they were still kitten enough to be more curious than skittish. But mom and dad, went in right away and didn't balk at all. They do prefer LR4 over LR3 because it's quieter. Cats don't like loud mechanical sound. As always you are so much fun and informative in your content, your live for cats shines all the way across the globe!! Thank you!! Smiles and blessings...
Super interesting! Thank you for the tips. Maybe sometime in the future I'll pick up one of the robots you recommend. (Right now one of my cats is dealing with a fungal skin infection so I don't want to stress her out even more since I have to upset her twice a day with medical treatments. She's good with it but it's still stress and it makes her sulk for a while before she resumes shadowing me.) I wished I had more power outlets though. 😔 With my current setup there's only one spot where a robot would work as far as power is concerned but it's the spot of the least used litterbox.
I gotta say the time on this video is probably the most infuriating thing. I literally just returned my automatic letter robot bc I couldn’t get one of my cats to use it. I might re-order and try some of these things.
Thanks for another great video! I have the PetKit Pura Max and am somewhat happy with it, but have been intrigued by the PetSnowy Snow+ ever since it first came out a couple months ago. I'm patiently biding my time and waiting for your review before making a decision, however.
@ it’s not a full in depth review. It’s a decent enough machine but it’s huge yet the space for a cat isn’t great. The weight measurements are always way off making the tracking useless. What it’s good at is minimising tracking and if you have dogs. Other than that stick with my recommendations in the last video!

Have you tried mixing cat litters? I wanted to try mixing boxiepro and dr elseys multi (blue) to see if it helps with the smearing/incomplete clumping from Dr Elseys but the tracking of the boxiepro. I have a meowant if that helps
I am in England so we don’t have most of the same litter brands. There is Dr Elsey’s but it’s very expensive. Experiment to see what works best! :) P.S. Meowant sell four different machines.
I have the original Puramax from Petkit, while my cat was trained to use it when he was younger, lately, he's failed to use it and ended up pooping outside of it. He starts off by going in to do his business and slowly, one foot at a time, move forward, until he's completely out. Which mean half of the mess is outside. The problem is, we have regular litter boxes but he does this with all of them.
When I see the notification with "One Man Five Cats" I always drop what I'm doing and have to watch immediately! Two of my cats are I think part Norwegian and they are very large and wouldn't fit in it. 😻😺😼
We're about to adopt 2 kittens. Should we use the recommended litter (that is used in the self-cleaning unit) in the manual tray until they're old enough? Is it worth / easy to have the self-cleaning unit unplugged nearby while we're litter training them? I live in Thailand and am unsure which units are available yet, and how easy / expensive it is to get the right litter. Thank you! 🙏
I just got one for Christmas and wish I’d seen this then 😂 It took about a week for my cat to start comfortably using it; however, she still runs back to it and hisses/strikes at it a few minutes later as it goes through the cleaning cycle. Whenever I can, I try to sit with her during a cycle while petting her and giving her treats. Are there any other ideas for helping her feel more comfortable during the cleaning phase?
Hi! I have a request! I love the way you made these videos, I have 3 cats and I found myself buying the automatic litter box (one because otherwise they have the garden, they prefer the litter box). However, my question is, WHICH SAND IS THE BEST?! Almost all of them let the pee go all the way down. I find myself having to use the automatic litter box like a normal litter box, with the scoop to scrape the bottom.Or, it flakes and leaves lumps, it doesn't cover well (despite the option) and it dirties the entire wall of the litter box, it's thin and makes dust end up everywhere. In short, I'm looking for the best litter.
@OneManFiveCats Thank you for wanting to help me!! PuraMax 1, climbing catsan, Italy. The litter I use is functional for how little it costs (it still has the problems mentioned above). But I have tried other litters, likes "Perfect" from Arcaplanet. I wanted to test Amazon's wood-based litters and World Best Litter's litters, what do you think? GRAZIE ANCORA!! 🔥💖

My cats instantly took to the Litter Robot 4. I had just plugged it in when Symba jumped in and peed. No hesitation.
What should I do if my cat hasn’t used it yet

I just love that you rescued so many stray cats. I also love all the informative content. Thanks for all you do.
These videos are so well done and funny that I watch them even though I don’t have a cat anymore
Thank you. I hope you are able to get a cat again
I smeared some cat churu over a piece of tape and taped the piece inside the machine, that worked wonders! The litter attractant also helped!

@raykim9061, this sounds like you might want your vet to check him out. Something might be going on, whether digestive or joint related.

You shouldn’t use clumping litter with kittens for health reasons if they swallow it. Get a litter that’s the same texture and you will be fine.

Try mixing in some other litter with it and gradually have less and less paper.
When will we see your 7th litter box recommendation?😊
I show it in this video and there’s text saying it over the clip showing six machines.
Aren't these those litter boxes that were seriously hurting cats a while ago?
