History is always subjective and not objective as people think. Hence its important what lessons are we trying to teach our kids. Do we teach adharma or dharma through these stories is our choice. Following recent controversy, many politicians have called for its cancellation. I am unsure whether it has been canceled or not.
I'm not sure if that ever happened. because This was the same Tipu in History that allied with France and Proclaimed war Against the Travancore kingdom (Led by Dharma Raja and Commanded by Kesavan Pillai) and Met with a humiliated defeat at Battle of Nedumkotta.(1789-80). Although History shows tipu as being friendly with the Kingdoms of kerala, he really wasn't. As a history buff, i don't expect you to know about that battle because our History books ignore our own Heroes.

When Tipu tried to defeat the company by blocking food supplies to the latter in all possible means, to an extent Tipu succeeded in it, some men of Mysore military (who happened to be Christians) having provided food articles to the British betrayed Mysore.
You just think what would have any other ruler of that time have done????
But do you know what Tipu did???
He deported them to Goa, then a Christian majority belt.
Mysore under Tipu and Hyder rebuilt some temples which were destroyed when the Marathas attacked Mysore.
Tipu offered financial assistance to many temples in Mysore and even Guruvayur Temple, Kerala.
Obviously he must have some drawbacks of his time.
But that doesn't affect his legacy of courageous resistance....

Tipu Sulthan was a learned man who wrote 130 some books on different subjects including scientific experimentation. No other King in entire history of undivided India has done that before him. Mysore was very progressive nation back then due to Tipu Sulthans policies. Though there were ongoing wars like Anglo Mysore, Maratha Mysore but despite that Mysore achieved much more than other Indian subcontinent countries. They were having a ship building industry, manufacturing hubs in different cities, they built dams and irrigation systems, they built rockets which eventually got man to moon and now to marse, there troops were modernised to fight in European style to counter British forces. If you know India and Indian history you can understand and see facts for tons of misinformation spread by political parties to win and influence elections.
