- A huge gas blast in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, has killed at least three people and injured nearly 300.
A lorry carrying gas exploded in Embakasi district at about 23:30 (20:30 GMT), "igniting a huge ball of fire", a government spokesperson said.
Housing, businesses and cars were damaged, with video showing a huge blaze raging close to blocks of flats.
Officials said a child was among those who died in the explosion, and that the death toll could rise.
The cause of the incident is still being established.

I now live in Germany but those white apartments behind the reporter is where I used to live while in Kenya. My family is still there. Who approved the building of such in a residential area? Someone should take responsibility and not just the low ranking officers but all the way to the top.

Night turned to day after the explosion. I saw a bright light roughly 20 Kilometers away from ground zero the brightness was like something I had ever seen but lasted for only a second. Quick recovery to the affected.

Some government officials knew about the existence of this gas refilling plant and approved it operations within a residential area but since the disaster has occurred through the gas refilling station they gave switched the game. Now the gas refilling plant isn't licensed to run it's operation. We aren't stupid at all, corruption is the reason we are suffering more in this banana republic. We need liberation.

I taught Ann soi's daughter and when all this was going down I woke up to screams and tremor the impact caused a black out I live around here people should be brought to book who authorized this plant then people should be compensated ASAP
What that guy says he was engulfed in flames? He must be made of asbestos! Not the time to overstate things when people died trying to escape.
Health safety should be prioritized? And these heavy vehicles carrying gas should be assessed for any leak, etc
This is Kenya(TIK),, nothing new here,, corruption will never cease in Kenya. Apparently the gas depot owner hadn't insured the business, and an Embakasi police officer who sought anonymity claimed that owner of Embakasi gas plant is well connected and therefore efforts of arresting him failed as police bosses were at the frontline in saving him. The owner is well connected to powerful people in the government and police bosses.
It’s very strange how a mother and young girl has been the victim of an acid attack, horrifically injured along with good Samaritans and police that tried to stop it and the BBC isn’t reporting about it. Could it be because the man is a Muslim who should’ve been deported twice But committed a sex attack and then was granted asylum in the UK:
