In the end he ended up being completely blind and because of that , he couldn’t see the stairs going down so he fell and then instantly died. I guess he could have decipher the message typed on paper a lot better than what he initially thought. Maybe he have been carelessly misinterpreting the message because he ignored what it was indicating as if it was in fact warning him to be extremely mindful of what his current sets of circumstances were. He learned too late about the consequences of following through with his foolish decisions.
