Great video. Happy Christmas and new year. I am just getting started with meshtastic going to buy one maybe two heltec v3 boards and see what i can come up with. Thank you for the info. 73😊
Hi. Does the second channel show up in the phone app if you activate it from CLI commands? Currently I cannot send messages to anyone else than the primary channel or the users directly. Thanks.
@@mihaioprea700 it should. Be sure all nodes are on the same firmware version and your config is valid. Come ask questions in the discord #help if you don't get it working.
I have a case where I’d like to make between 2 to 10 Nodes used as Repeaters that talk to each other, but call also be used to allow Meshtastic as well. I’m trying to understand if one Node can do more than one thing? As an example, I need all Nodes to have a display clock/timer and 2 push buttons like a Chess clock timer that switches between the 2 push buttons, Red and Blue. Each timer is is reset at the start from a master control, but each of the push buttons and their calculated time would be independant
A repeater is a node with a good location. It has the same function as all others. This network is a "mesh" where everybody is connected with everybody in range. Keep in mind that this is far from a "real time" system, because its speed is slow.
The Meshcom project changed considerably and they use APRS now. I did not check the new one out yet. 10W is most probably not helping a lot compared with the hassle to produce it because LoRa has a very high Link Budget and therefore does not need a lot of power like FSK.
To be honest, the 825 MHz and the 925 MHz frequencies are LICENSED to mobile providers here in my country. This the reality here in the Philippines, until Mikrotik unveiled their products based on 2.4 GHz LoRA (the same ISM frequency Wi-Fi uses).
I am not sure how they do it. On Winlink there is a whitelist. Only mails from addresses which got mails from Winlink are forwarded. So you have to send a mail from MeschCom to receive mails from a particular address. But I do not know if this is implemented.
Awesome video, I'm working to start a network in Montclair NJ - USA with my ham club and I'm getting an error message when I try to communicate with the module to send the communication lines, it's similar to the error when the ESPHome... ends in: Exception: Timed out waiting for connection completion BUT the ESP is closed. Not sure what else can be "blocking" the serial. meshtastic -h works but any other command related to the port such as meshtastic --port PORT returns an error. Do you know what should I do?
You know this is actually really cool if you could solar power about 50 of these. Real question? How do these fair in the field? Do they often go dead while in use like the average router, thus needing to be reset manually every other week after some time in operation? I have yet to see a consumer or hobby grade router or a Modem from and ISP not have random issues that require a physical power cycle to be able to log into it. How are these for long term use? If these are really good for Mesh networks? Then with placement being in places hard to get to if using solar or wind power or a combination of each? They would have to at least have a good amount of Uptime before they wig out. Do they?
At 7:50 in the video you say: "Do not install Meshtastic firmware because MeshCom binary has some presets". I have a Lilygo board with Meshtastic already installed. Do you have any tips for installing MeshCom in this particular situation? Thanks.
Do you have the device name, model number or more details regarding the 1 watt Lora board? I can't seem to find a plug and flash board like the T-Beam in the market and most of them are selling only the bare module. I'm a HAM operator and would like to setup a higher power repeater node.
I want to build a local network of Arduino devices that control some lights. Almost like Philips Hue but over longer distances. Could a local LoRa mesh work for this? What is the easiest way to code this? I don’t think I need LoRaWAN or TTN. But I’m still looking for a well supported mesh library. The range doesn’t need to be more that 5km wide across the whole mesh. I do think I would want the messages to be encrypted so nobody can mess with it. I’m not sure what my approach should be. Radiohead maybe?
You r just amazing !! I wish i had your skills in programming, but I'm in progress. I have 5 tbeam to play with on this isla, so I guess I will watch this video many times to get things to work. Best 73 SM6LNJ Peter
You can choose if you use ISM or 70cm. If you use 70cm you should not encrypt. But you have no limitations on duty cycles and are legal with your build.
Hello guy with the swiss accent, do you have by change knowledge of somebody using a lorawan gateway´s 9th channel (backhaul) for meshtastic...? Could it be possible? 73

Great video! Every time I watch 1 of your videos my backlog of projects increases. 😃
Thank you!
Thks & I can't wait for LoRa satellite relays
Maybe you should sell "Strange Swiss Distortion" t-shirts! So cool. I think I already have some of the hardware. It might be a winter project for me.
Good idea! Maybe I will find a designer for the creation
Of course it will need to come in neutral colors ;-)

Wow I am more than happy. Thank you so much indeed. I am so eager to test the platform but unfortunately I low on budget maybe sometimes.
As said: The project is in its initial stage. So no hurry...
I'm slowly makeing up a mesh network for off grid communication for my friends and family , and just for fun .
You are probably not the only person doing that in these tough times ;-)

Andreas, many thanks for the interesting video! Perfect project for Winter 🥶, before running up the hills again 😉
And in spring you can place one on the highest hill ;-)
I plan to also have my own gateway. Seems like a great project!
Indeed!
Thanks!
Thank you for your support of the channel!

I hope you are QRV already...
Nice project. We run a Meshtastic network locally with a mqtt broker. This is more or less the same but with a further 'range', so let's try!
Cool. I think you are on the right way.
Awesome! What hardware did you use for the MQTT broker?
This is a VERY interesting project! Also very interesting it uses MQTT. With that I could connect it to many other projects.
Indeed, this is simple and standardized.
Valeu!
Thank you for your support!
Its an overdub! If you look at the screen you can see he is not speaking. 3:18

Very interesting video, combining Amateur Radio and Meshtastic.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video. Just what I was looking for.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video as always!! Congratulations👏👏👏
Thank you!
I have had a solar power mesh up for 9.5 months now. Solar powered. Would love to get this connected to a world wide mesh.
Should be possible now...
love that second channel, keep it up!

Are you going to produce a video showing how to set up a gateway? I'm in the US, and with a HAM license I can transmit up to 10 watts.

In your country, 433 should be ISM. Meshtastic also works on 433.
Would a mail gateway open the doors for spammers? Sorry for instantly seeing the bad things, it's ofcourse an awesome undertaking

AFAIK they are used as solar powered repeaters on hill-tops. But I have no experience with stability.

There's an option with ESPTool to "erase memory before flashing" or similar, that should do the trick!
I just saw the comment and hope, you were successful. I suggest the same as John.
@@HB9BLA I’ve since learned there’s also a firmware erase flash file that I was sent by someone on the Discord group, maybe also worth using.

I once showed "Farm Data Relay System" on my main channel. It is no mesh, but maybe fits your needs.
How do you remove the cap from the black antenna? I want to use the same case as you...

Since Lora is in the ism band and not in ham frequency are crypted transmissions legal?

No. They are different

Not at all. TTN is a hub and spoke network.
