    Pekora is one of the early "high energy" members that is still with us. It's hard to be the energetic one, or even the literal end boss (like in Rust), so much of the time, but Pekora threaded the needle and seems to be in a pretty stable place. Which is great! She's amazing, and helped to define an entire "type" of holomem.

    The thing is, What Pekora's manager said back then was absolutely correct.
    "Hololive need stability and safety more than hype and excitement" need to be emphasized at the time.
    They might seems too strict right now, But that's just an appropriate countermeasure after how much they have been through in 2020-2022
    Why was the perms so strict? Because the last time it wasn't this strict, We almost lost Mio's entire channel. more than half of the video and stream from before that time were privated or deleted. Maybe they're just overreacting, But who knows if they ever have to go through that again.
    Is the current Hololive stable and safe enough yet? Probably. But for these thing you can't never be too sure.

    • @howlingzangetsu
      @howlingzangetsu 2 месяца назад +67

      Exactly my thought, maybe it is to strict a place for some of the talents at times, but I’d rather they have that safety net in place before they risk a fall and it’s not like Hololive doesn’t understand that sometimes the talents need to take a step back and focus on themselves and what they want to do the most and so they try to accommodate that to the best of their ability I feel like

      one thing for sure, STOP SPAMMING NEW MEMBERS for a while.
      ID branch is a good example. no more new gens.
      the chats being a jerk. wanting a new gens. hey people. if u want new gens, that means you already tired to the current members. that's rude to old membs, u know...
      nijisanji already a proof about this kind of stuff.
      DONT SPAM SO MANY VTUBERS IN SUCH A SHORT TIME.
      and NEED TO RETIRE THE OLD MEMBS FIRST BEFORE ADDING NEW GENS.
      even tho it's sad to see akua and ame retired, but that gives hololive a bit of chance to release a new gen. for a stability.
      now seems cover, both holo live and stars, need to make it like... ONE GEN ONE YEAR. like really. like proper school system. kouhai-senpai thingy
      advent, justice, regloss 1 and 2, are not necessarily needed for the past year. i mean it's okay if they already got the names. but fuwamoco and others need to be like.. wait for another semester or another year after the audition to be able to join the group.
      the sad thing is, whenever I typed some comments like.. 'retirement' thing, some ppl be like thinking I'm a hater or it's some bad comment. I'm not. and I can say that I'm already a veteran fan. the fact is like that. old gens need to retire for new gens to enter. and I think 2025 is such a good/pretty number for some special events including graduation/retirement. that's also why I predict probably 2025 more vtubers gonna retire. and debuting.

      @robertbernard7844 2 месяца назад +63

      People forget that Hololive started out back when VTubing was a VERY novel concept, back when people were throwing stuff at the wall and hoping it'd stick. There were no rules about how to do stuff, so the guys at Cover had to adapt as they went to avoid shit hitting the fan. And that didn't even work half the time (dare I mention the 6th member of Gen 0? Or the Coco incident?). Now that the rules have been established, yeah, things are a lot more corporate now, but they pretty much HAVE to, lest they let history repeat itself and eventually cause their downfall. That's why Nijisanji (and many other firms) is drowning, lord knows how many skeletons there are in the closet that we haven't heard of yet.

    Streaming allows not only the talents to become closer and build bonds between them and their fans (Which is something that is rare with Hololive vs. other Idol companies) but also a way for them to destress. The concerts, and everything else is great and brings a lot of money and work for the company but streaming is what got us all into Hololive.

      Though I agree. You can also complain about things but still love said things. Sometimes the people who love something the most are also the ones that complain the most because they want to see it perform well.
      Not saying here that Pekora complains a lot but even if she did it would be fine. She has her view on things, other members have theirs and then the company might have a different view as well. There's bound to be creative clashes and complaints here and there that we don't know of nor should know.
      What I'm trying to say I guess is that complaining is fine if you do it out of genuine interest and care for the thing you do.

    3:10 Peko-chan is being humble of how influential and powerful she has become. So powerful she could accidentally DDoS some unsuspecting sites and also to the point most of her ideas would easily get the "Go" signal from the management so that she doesn't get her motivation slide down. A very huge chunk of Hololive would disappear if she left. Same with Miko, Marine, Subaru, Koyori, Suisei and other with constant high viewership.

    You know, it makes a lot of sense. HoloLive needed to establish a core audience and a footing on the scene before it could expand, so it made sense to be a little more restrictive. And when Pekora says Staff members were less "you can't do that" and more "let's try this later", it shows they had at the very least some forward thinking regarding where the company should go. And you can tell by the progression of each new group, one more unhinged than the last. In the best waym of course.

  • @TriChaser
    @TriChaser 2 месяца назад +8

    Though I do think as a company it makes more sense for them to expand into the idol side though as in Japan its such a huge financial market ranging from ads to concerts and tv appearances. But as a listener, I do agree with her. I'm not super into all of their idol side of things, I love more of their game streams events like hologta and minecraft events. I do listen to some of the members music but that's about it.
    But I can see a total reverse fan who only like the idol side and less of the live streams.
    I think with how things are going, it might split the base as the type of activities will attract different fan base. I assume that is why cover did the dev_Is branch as eventually it might be healthier for cover to divide the company to be idol side and gaming side as both are equally time consuming and needs a different kind of support system.
    From what I know Dev_is branch also expects their livers to do dance and singing lesson on regular basis which might turn off some of the liver who sign before the company was going down the idol route.

The reason why the talents shill their merch is that they have a better cut on merch than superchats, coz with merch they just have to split it between Cover and themselves, meanwhile with superchats they have to give youtube its share. Conversely, it's the reason why NijiLivers barely talk about their merch: 2% is all they get, why are they gonna bother?

    People are saying a lot in this comment section so I want people to think beyond the talents for a bit. According to Cover's website, as of June of 2023 Cover had 409 employees, a year + later there's even more people involved. Remember, this is at least 409 real people who their lives depend on that company. In my opinion, letting talents do whatever they want would be wildly irresponsible not only in a business sense but also in a moral sense. A company that big needs to have a clear and safe direction. Does money plays a part in that? Of course, they're a company after all. But things are not black and white, there's always more than Cover is becoming a good or bad company.

    Just my two cents, Hololive gets more revenue from merchs so of course they will shift their focus on how to sell more than to improve the streaming part since its just up to the talents' creativity to do things on stream (with restrictions); And so far I think their biggest goal is Suisei, Hololive and other companies are now trying to recreate another Suisei stardom success. I also think that is the reason for DEV_IS existence but to me they just can't recreate Suisei's success at all. She did all things as a trailblazer accompanied with luck, experimenting new things, and also hardwork which is a given.

    I do agree that hololive has indeed changed, essentially reverting back to their original direction of pushing their virtual idol stuffs forward, playing things safe to avoid too many complications, legal or otherwise. Still, with how much of absolute comedians our favorite holo girls can sometimes turn into, and how familiar we've grown with that particular aspect over the years, I hope that shifting back into their original direction doesn't completely wipe that "fun" aspect away from the holo girls and alienate too many viewers.

    I won't pretend that I am familiar with what really goes on in Cover Corp but I understand very well the importance of shifting moderation due to growth, both the pros and cons.
    For me, at least, I already see that kind of situation with Suisei very clearly over the years. Her name is now more of a Business-Tier Brand than just a mere name which means she really can't risk doing anything that could ruin that momentum of gaining promotions (such as playing with her "Psychopath" Persona).
    The more you handle more added things in a collective (such as having new Talents Debut as Gens), the more likely those things can screw up the whole collective due to the lack of attentiveness so rules getting tighter is not a surpise.
    While I am happy for their progress as of now, I hope that Cover Corp does not one day "fly to close to the sun" when it comes to their development.
    At the same time, we, the Viewers, should also not be surprised that we see Talents decide to see different paths in the future (such as what we saw with Aqua and Ame) since we now have so many that have been with Cover for more than 4 years now and that we have so many, each with their own personal limits (which do not even include simply retiring due to old age).

I think that in the whole of Hololive I've never seen another fandom that gets together like this to talk badly about the company that Pekora herself is part of, thinking that they're doing something for Pekora. If Pekora herself saw this, she certainly wouldn't like what she saw at all. I wonder if this increased because of the fic that the people themselves created that Aqua left because she was dissatisfied with how she was treated. In fact, if you take into account the things that Sakuna says, it seems more like she simply didn't want to have to do the work related to being an idol anymore, which is mandatory since Hololive is also an idol agency. Sakuna has already achieved what she wanted and prefers to work more peacefully at her own, calmer pace and without having much contact with people. Mind you most of the time how sponsorships work (according to Holomem) is that management tells them so and so wants to sponsor them, "are you interested?" Most of the time they can say no if they want. There's sponsorships, then merch, then planning for concerts, planning for collabs, recording covers/orisongs, dance practice, not to mention they have private (personal) stuff to do. Some of them have radio shows. (Senchou and Fubuki had one, Suisei has 2, there are also radio shows where Holomem were regular guests) They show up on Japanese TV too btw, occasionally. They also cameo in anime. Betcha didn't know that Suisei and Sora sung anime OSTs for upcoming animes, Suisei's is an anime movie, Sora's is an anime OP theme. (Forgot the anime name for both) Nene has voiced a named character in an anime. She, Subaru and Aqua had a unit named NEGIU that sang an anime ED theme... Crap, I also forgot the name.
      And this just what I know. They have a fckton of collabs and sponsorships in Japan. Oh yeah, Korone is Sonic ambassador, Botan and Aqua are Redbull ambassador, (I think Botan is now/also Nissin ambassador _and_ has a collab with a ramen restaurant rn) Miko, Calli and Gura are Tokyo Tourism ambassadors. They also have sponsorships (btw I'm using "sponsorships" and "collabs" interchangeably coz I'm an idiot that doesn't know the difference) in countries like Taiwan and Korea.

He's a Korean vlog maker that goes around visiting Hololive collabs/sponsorships and ofc the concerts. (dw he's bilingual, his videos have eng subs) Even if they only have to nod/shake their head they still have tons of stuff to do. For example Gura had a collab with Sushiro in Taiwan and she had voice lines recorded for it. A few "Sushiro wants you to say this" "Sushiro wants you to say it in this way" "Gura they wanna change some things" and it already sounds tiring, but now an Aquarium in Japan wants your voice lines too, rinse and repeat. But I might be misremembering it) And just when Gura is dead tired suddenly "Gura, we're planning a collab with the LA Dodgers, yes _that_ Dodgers, and you kinda can't refuse coz we need your powerful branding." Remember: Gura is a person with a low social battery, but also sponsors love her coz anything with her face/voice on it will sell out guaranteed. The girls have a ton of sponsorship that's onlt available and known in japan that's why most of the overseas fans are in the dark and are usually scratching their heads.
      Some sponsorships needs the talent to be present at the site for their input and decisions, I remember there one such thing when they collab w/ a sushi resto where the girls each tasted the products and decides if it's good enough or in need of adjustments. Cover gives that much power to the girls when they do sponsorships.
      The trips to sponsors doubles as their vacation trip like the ones on watame's have a nice day skit, where she vlogs her trip w/ other holomems. The one w/, Irys is a good example, they also had relaxing onsen on the side of work.
      Trips overseas also takes a lot of time, 3rd gen to europe is one such example, it was funded by the company for the talent's enjoyment at the same time video content for the official channel.

    Wow, people really are stupid, huh? "Aqua left because she was tired of idol activities", people say it with so much confidence yet her new persona is extremely idol oriented, it's written in plain text everywhere on her channel. She has always loved idol activities throughout her Holo career, all her original songs are about that. Oh yeah and Ame definitely hated idol activities, that's why she... added exclamation point for "Idol!" in her YT bio before her departure? Made a whole damn 3D studio to sing and dance on her new persona? And her first event appearance will be in a 3D live and it will be a song specifically?
    If you watched streams you'd know that despite their different problems all Holo members, present and past, feel gratitude towards Hololive first and foremost. It all simply boils down to if you're fine with working in more corporate setting and having more things to worry about (which is unavoidable at some point considering Hololive growth), or not. It's not like Hololive forces them to do anything. You don't HAVE to do 3D lives, on the contrary, it's something most talents want themselves, they have a quota of lives Cover can sponsor for them and if they want to do more they pay out of their pocket. They wouldn't pay tons of money for something they dislike, right? Almost all members have said that performing with other Holomems on stage is one of their dreams/goals. Same for songs and albums. And there were instances of some people skipping even the company/branch wide lives, and I'm absolutely certain they can even skip Holofes if they really want/need to. I'm sick of people saying some members dislike idol stuff ("they are not singing oriented, let them just stream!!") when those same members stated that they wanted to do a certain song or a 3D live countless times, or that they put lots of effort to improve their singing.
    Merch gets discussed with talents themselves so it's up to you if you want to spend time signing limited editions or not. Most jobs like sponsorships, collabs with other companies, voicepacks are VOLUNTARY, JP girls talked about it multiple times. Even streaming hours don't seem to have any lower or upper limits because there are Gura and Shion and then there are Koyori and Kaela.

      I won't even go into these other topics because it will fall on dead ears, but:
      - streaming less than before in Holo doesn't diminish your success and financial value at all;
      - restrictions are not a bad thing because like 80% of vtuber drama and downfalls of vtubers and even entire companies is due to loose restrictions and/or managers not being attentive enough and not doing their job properly;
      - if you think Holomems have their creativity severely held down, or that there are too few cool events and unconventional streams, the most likely problem is that you just don't know about them;
      - going indie from a corpo is quite literally like opening your own business vs being a hired worker. Both have pros and cons, and if you simplify it to "corpo bad, strict rules, indie good for creative types!" you probably didn't ever have a job. For instance, at least at JP side it's not like they get tons of freedom after going indie because JP viewers are much less forgiving than western audiences. A single controversy not handled properly can kill their career for years to come. Hololive's strength is that it's a box: even if you're not very popular you're lifted up by more successful members, if you're caught up in a controversy the company shields you to an extent. Towa took a huge hit when she lied about male voice being her manager back in 2020 but she's successful, loved by all members, has lots of music and even had her sololive now. I really, REALLY doubt that would be the case if she was indie.

    I think Pekora has it in the right here.
    Streaming is Hololive's core strength, and Pekora would know a thing or two about that.
    While it is nice to see more "artist" in the company, streaming is fundamental.
    "I feel that it's better for Hololive to have more exciting streams."
    Honestly, that's what I feel has been declining since even Coco's departure...
    Not that they need to do ever more yabai or outrageous things, but we are starting to feel slowing innovation in stream ideas..
    It's zatsu, game, or karaoke...
    Those fun prank, those spontaneous collabs, mostly thing of the past, but those were the things that excited us and kept us engaged, not wanting to miss a minute of it.
    Every bad company will begin to prioritize "safety" and "stability" as they grow bigger, but that is more often than not at the cost of innovation and creativity.
    "If Pekora was a powerful person, things would be different."
    This one hurts.
    In a single line we can feel her frustration as a creator, and probably contemplation to follow the Aqua path...
    Marine had shared similar sentiment in the past.
    I think Hololive will do well to take more careful consideration in terms of the creative direction from their TOP creators who have great insight into what the fans want.

    I think there is a growing divide in COVER between the talents and the investors. I feel the investors are old hats of traditional media - people who uphold the Japanese Idol Culture that has grown in the past 30 years. The talents are more new media - strong streaming foundations that drive all the other activities including the occasional concert. The divide is that while the talents want to stream more (partly why Aqua & Ame left), the company wants to focus more on idol activity (Training, Concerts, Music, Radio, TV Shows). What faces Yagoo now that will decide the fate of Hololive is how much he pulls in either direction - if he ends up pulling too much in one direction, he risks the wrath of investors who pull their money or risks having talent leave. It’s not an envious position to be in, one that puts the staff in the line of fire of both sides.

      From my opinion. Gen 3 is what really changed hololive and helped it gain tremendous attraction.. with pekora and marine boasting highest yt female streamer views at one point and rushia used to be the most donated vtuber ever.. so you could say that gen 3 is hololives ace but gen 0 is whats been holding everything together

      I guess it depends on the perspective of the viewer. I discovered Hololive around half a year after Gen 4 debuted. I remember one of the earliest clips I watched was Kanata and Pekora screwing around in Super Bunny Man, and seeing Pekora as the senpai there kinda established her as an OG in my eyes.
      At this point, you could probably consider the industry pre-boom era to be kind of OG, which would be around this period as well.

      At the time gen 3 debutted they had 3 powerhouses (marine, rushia, and peko) while the other 2 (flare, noel) wasn't that far from them. Up until holoX they were probably the most successful generation, at the time boasting the highest number of subs and views (not including gura).

      Depend on people's standard of what makes OG. For me? Yes! The reason? Because my standards about OG is when they stop 'hiring' talent by scouts. Fubuki is heavily implied to be some sort of consultant for Cover, and she will fight back on terrible decisions. She was the one who suggested one gen. of gamers to begin with, shifting one of the main cores of the agency, focusing more on stream and gameplay. Now Cover, after the success of Suisei, Marine, Calli, and others, is very focused on the musical side of the project. Producing high-quality originals with renowned artists and putting out big concerts. That can be very frustrating for people who love streaming above everything else, like Pekora. But Fubuki herself is shifting towards the new chances, preparing herself to her first Sololive concert. Pekora, in fact, also did a Sololive not so long ago.
