The 'health bars" were measures of their remaining Aura. Remember that aura is the reason why they can survive stuff like getting shot in the face or falling down at terminal velocity. As Glynda said back on volume 1, when a fighter's aura gets in the red, the fight is over. It's too risky to keep going on, because if you loose your aura's protection for even a second in those fights, you could die instantly.
if you guys don't know, the intro scene with Ruby talking to her mom at her burial site is a tribute to Monty Oum as well~ who passed away February 2015. The crows flying towards the sun is his signature~ may you rest in peace Monty :')
I din't not know that, that is pretty awesome. I've heard that he was the ones doing the fight's choreography before, and that was what kept me interested in RWBY during the first seasons, I didn't care much about the story and plot, so I got worried for season 3, but the story reaaaally picked up from there. But RIP Monty, you and you talent will be missed.
yep. He was the lead animator behind all the memorable fight scenes of Volumes 1 and 2: Team RWBY + Team JNPR vs Nevermore and Death Stalker, Blake and Sun vs Roman, Team RWBY vs Roman in his assault mech, Pyrrha vs Team CRDN, Food fight, Yang/Weiss/Blake vs Roman, Neo, and White Fang Lieutenant, and....any other notable Volume 1 + 2 fight scenes that I did not mention. I am sure most if not all of current RWBY fans got hooked on the show because of the combat....I was following Monty even before that...Icarus, Haloid, Dead Fantasy series, his dance sequences of SNSD and Mariah Carey, his various animation sample videos (My Lecon, etc) - man I loved every single work done by this man....such a legend. I know the animation overall now is drastically improved~ and I love it. I still wish Monty was not taken from us so soon...all the past fight scenes of Volume 3 would have been jaw-droppingly amazing~ rest in peace dear legend :')
Just wanted to point it out for you guys, but in the first minute when the birds fly towards the sun? That's Monty Oum's signature. It's a really cool little thing they did.
Nameless 422 Monty didn't do that whole scene. He set up the shot and put Ruby in, but that was the last work he ever did on the show. He passed before adding any animation,
***** one of the last scenes Monty worked partially on was also in chapter 6 (not going to say what specifically since it would be kind of a spoiler), so the opening scene wasn't the last of what he animated/worked on for Volume 3 BioCraftHero yeah, the PvP fight reminded me of Monty's Dead Fantasy 6 with the fighting style he used for Namine (too bad it didn't get finished, it was getting interesting at the point he stopped at)
There are some small bits of animation that are original Monty animations in Vol 3. Also Monty wrote an outline of the future of RWBY all the way to a volume 9
@@levi0394 very well. It's kept as a physical document by Burnie and the other lead writers and it acts as like a rulebook of things that absolutely have to happen or not happen.
Thats not their "health" bar, its their "aura" bar / energy to protect themselves from lethal damage. Cause you know one thing that aura does is protect the user.
Funfuct: the reason Mercury (the guy with grey hair) was smelling the boots was to check if the leather used for is good, because if it was a cheap made leather it would give a bad smell
It's ok to temper your expectations for the fights. There is a noticeable drop in fight choreography starting from here. One of the key elements of Monty's style was his insistence to not waste movements/space, but now you'll start to see a lot of extra Anime flourishes. Despite that though, everything else, overall animation, set design, writing is better this volume, so have fun!
To clarify what happened with Monty, he died after starting work on this first episode. The last thing he made is the opening shot of the forest before he had his allergic reaction, went into his coma, and passed away. The birds flying towards the sun is the shape of his signature.
Monty did indeed pass away between Volumes 2 and 3, there are bits of his animation within the volume but I'm pretty sure most of it was unfinished causing some fights to turn out better than others but in general people do tend to say the quality of the fights is lower in this Volume although there are some good ones but also some pretty bad ones. As for Ren, Monty's brother Neath picks up Ren's VA for him this Volume and will be his VA going forward. In Volume 2 when Jaune was training with Pyrrah she said something like "I'm sure we'll discover your semblance any day now" so he has one but just doesn't know what it is yet.
For reference, Nora's line "I can bench five of me" implies she can bench press 610 pounds (Assuming she's around the average weight for a 17 year-old of her height)
Around this point they start hiring more professional voice actors. Yuri Lowenthal, Vic Mignogna and Laura Bailey appear this season and next season we get Vegeta and Beerus.
It makes sense the way they chose the two for the doubles... You have the tankiest team member who can also dish out the most individual damage (Yang), as well as the most versatile and glass cannon support/sweeper of the team (Weiss). :) Yang has trouble with faster, more agile opponents (like Neo), but has a much easier time with other somewhat slower tank enemies (so long as she's in either a somewhat similar or slower speed tier.) And, thanks to her semblance, the longer the fight lasts, the more equipped she is to overpower her opponents, provided she can actually hit them (nothing a little ice and/or gravity can't fix.) Weiss is more equipped for the faster opponents as she's in a relatively high speed tier herself (and her versatility when it comes to dust and her semblance usage is amazing). Her supportive arsenal also gives her a lot to work with, and Yang being a very straight forward powerhouse allows her a lot of options for support potential. BUT she doesn't have great endurance, as her reliance on her semblance can be very taxing, which means that the longer the fight lasts the lower HER chances of lasting are.
Nico Cornejo Yup! :) Yang is more or less a distraction for Weiss to survive longer allowing her to cripple their opponents and wittle them down easier, Whereas Weiss is a distraction for Yang so she can build up her damage output in order for her to OHKO their opponents.
Nico Cornejo Imagine full super saiyan Yang with a haste glyph on her against two opponents stuck floating in the air thanks to Weiss's black "gravity/anti gravity" glyph. >:)
As much I would want them to react to it ASAP, they still haven't figure it out who's the guy in the intro (I know they seem sure here, but in the early access reaction they seem to forgot when he shows up in the bar). So once they watch Ch. 3, when he's fully introduced, then pretty please (guys) react to the Death Battle
The fact that he's mentioned is a reference, so "at all" doesn't apply. And you could argue that mention is about 2-3 seconds and doesn't reveal much of him as a character, but I think they would appreciate more if they found out who that guy is in the chapter than in a side project, even if that project is co-funded by RoosterTeeth
The last part Monty worked on was Ruby on the mountain talking to her mom. also a little Easter egg. the birds at the end of the scene formed montys signature, with the sun being the O.

Watching these guys react to RWBY gave me a lot of strength to keep pushing through really difficult times. It saved my life. So rewatching it now as the hiatus for volume 8 has just ended and just seeing how the story is now while also thinking back in my life then and now just really changes the perspective and appreciation I have for these videos. I can’t wait to catch back up to volume 8 reactions
Changed my mind, I think it would be better if you react to the Death Battle right after Ch. 3. Because spoilers... well, minor kinda insignificant spoiler, but spoiler not the least.
Monty had passed away at this point, and its now his brother Neath who does Ren's Voice. (Also you should watch the Yang vs Tifa death battle as it was made between seasons two and three)
Blind Wave; Still completely underestimating Blakes fighting ability in comparison to her teammates, completely forgetting the fact that not 10 minutes earlier she was the only member of her team to single handedly take out one of their opponents in 1v1. Good job guys!
Jaune's semblance has yet to be show/discovered, since he only got aura at the beginning of the school year thanks to Pyrrha. As far as semblances we've seen and been mentioned are Ruby's speed, Pyrrha's polarity, Weiss' glyphs, Blake's shadow, Yang's getting stronger the more damage she takes (I think Revenge or Retribution would be catchy names for it). Other than those, no other semblances have been explicitly named or explained. Ones that have been shown but not explained are Glynda's telekinesis and Neo's illusion powers. Ones that have been speculated about are Cinder's fire and exploding ground stuff, Adam's absorption and redirection of energy that he used on the spider bot.
As far as I'm aware, Monty Oum at the very least did choreography for several fights in volume 3 before he passed. And of course, he had the story planned out.
Vol 3 has a lot of tribute to Monty. What you've seen as of this episode - Monty voiced Ren, his brother Neath takes over for him. Also, the shot of the sun after Ruby is done at the grave stone - the birds form Monty's signature with the sun.
So you know: There is a specific piece of animation in Volume 3 Chapter 9, it is the final piece of Motion Capture done by Monty. So there are still bits of his work thru this volume.
Ruby and gangs dads team idea .....impregnate the entire team everyone lol and the song is supposed to fit each volume and sometimes shows hints at what will happen in the next volume
Man, I would love to see your guys next reaction video, but it makes my weekend so waiting can be a good thing. Friday: Avatar reaction, Saturday: Volume 4 RWBY, Sunday: everyone reacting to the vol. 4 episode. Monday: Avatar reaction and finally Tuesday with your RWBY reaction. What a wonderful long nerdy weekend. Since I am disabled and currently bed ridden, you guys don't know how much I enjoy seeing other people enjoy the same shows with me.
I fucking love this episode. It is a great start to Volume 3 especially with how it starts. I love seeing Ruby visit her mother's grave because even though it's very sad Ruby is still so adorable and upbeat. I am disappointed we didn't get to see Tai Yang talk. I love that Professor Oobleck and Professor Port are the commenters for the tournament. I really like the fight and the members of team ABRN. I especially like Reese Chloris with her hover-board guns and Arslan Altan with her awesome strength. I love how Blake takes out Reese and the plan they come up with to take out the rest of the team. I also love the song that is played during this fight. I love how talented the old shop keep is and I bet he is a badass. I really want to know why Weiss's credit card was declined. I love how hilarious Blake's obsession with tuna is. Team JNPR is great and Neath Oum voicing Ren is really good and I love Nora and Jaune's antics. I love how Emerald pickpockets Ruby to get closer to team RWBY. I love how Neopolitan is the 4th member of Cinder's team just disguised. Also they are all great actors. I love how happy Emerald acts around most people but the minute she leaves she's like fuck team RWBY they’re too goddamn happy. Mercury has a new voice actor and it is the amazing Yuri Lowenthal. I can't wait to see how team Bronze fight's and I know team JNPR can beat them. Also team Bronze is from Shade Academy from Vacuo and that is where Cinder's team is from. I don't think this is a coincidence because the name shade alludes to the darkness. I have a wild theory that Jaune will figure out his aura powers next episode. Also a piece of trivia I learned from the wiki is that the crows flying into the sunset form Monty Oum's signature.
Supermonaman SuperMonaman Are you watching along with them? Also a small correction, Cinder says they are visiting from the Haven academy of Mistral not Shade
No I just wrote comments like this and saved them every week after the episodes came out. Thanks for the correction I know that I was just too lazy to rewrite this comment.
This was the first season they did after monty oum passed away. Sadly, that does make the animation for fights hell of a lot slower because of the lack monty's kinetic and dynamic animation style we have had up to this point. They also did a nice tribute to him at the beginning of the episode with the sun and the birds making his signature.
goldmemberpb Monty did work on some of these before he died. PvP and Yang vs. Merc have some Monty there. But yeah, his passing is sorely noted on the fights. Most of the Vytal fights are just plain bad, and the ones in V4 still have a ways to go. They will improve, though. Just give it time.
goldmemberpb His death really happened at a rather unfortunate timing seeing as how volume 3 was the big tournament part with a ton of fighting. Not to say it wouldn't be shitty if he died at any other time but just think of all the cool fights we missed out on. But oh well life just isn't fair.
I am hopeful. I'm 100% sure they know that and are searching for animators on fights who could work...better than now, let's put it that way. Anyway, story, characters, world building, art, music are doing a fine job, so let's stay strong.
Hey Blind Wave crew, I just wanted to say thanks for your awesome videos and for introducing me to yoohoo's which unfortunately I now have an addiction to.
you know you can watch two per episode if you want. im sure everyone else would want that too. catch up and provide more content. And satisfy ALL parties.
- Summer Rose: "The Last Rose of Summer" by Thomas Moore - Taiyang Xiao Long: ????? - Arslan Altan: Aslan - Nadir Shiko: Nadeshiko flowers - Bolin Hori: Hebo
My God Nora was so relatable here. Literally what happened to people who didn't make varsity sports at my high school to a T to the point where I was getting not quite PTSD flashbacks
Story wise, Monty worked with Miles and Kerry (The Co-creators) closely and Monty had plans for up to 9 volumes. While he didn't have every detail worked out both co-creators have kept in the direction he wanted to take the series. However I believe he didn't get to work on much of the actual animation, some but not a whole lot. Also, the opening scene with Ruby talking to her mom was added into what they had of this volume as a tribute to Monty. And when the birds fly out in front of the sun it's Monty's signature that he has used for years.
This season RT (Rooster Teeth) has new voice actors for RWBY, to star Lie Ren is Voiced by Monty Oum's brother Neath Oum since Monty passed away last year, Qrow Branwen is voiced by Vic Mignogna aka Edward Elric from FMA (Full Metal Alchemist), Broly from DBZ movie, and Tamaki Suoh from OHSHC (Ouran HighSchool Host Club) in the English dubbed , finally Mercury Black is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal aka Uchiha Sasuke, Kururugi Suzaku from Code Geass and Simon from Gurren Lagann in the English dubbed
Ren was shown to have a sort of force field (when he fought the hunt snake in volume 1) and I don't think we know jaunes for sure yet but he was shown to heal himself (that might be a universal trait of aura's tho idk) when his aura was unlocked by Pyrrha in vol 1.
tulicloure 5 is my least favourite episode of the whole show pretty much so I'm not looking forward to that one but I realise some people actually liked and I actually like FNKI so whatever I guess. Plus gotta get through that to get to the amazing 6-12.
You guys need to watch the episodes on the Rooster Teeth website as they have the updated versions where all the mistakes and glitches have been reworked and fixed. Love the reactions by the way. Keep it up!
you guys missed a world of remnant, it came before V3 Ch 1 aired It's called Volume 3 World of Remnant 1 (about the Vytal Festival) There are 3 more for volume 3 called: Huntsmen, Cross Transmit Continental System, and One more that I won't say yet because of spoilers. These videos are not in the playlist for some reason however they still exist on youtube and are still published by rooster teeth, they are just not in the playlist.
The Birds flying towards the Sun are Monty's signature :(
lykan2 😭
The 'health bars" were measures of their remaining Aura. Remember that aura is the reason why they can survive stuff like getting shot in the face or falling down at terminal velocity. As Glynda said back on volume 1, when a fighter's aura gets in the red, the fight is over. It's too risky to keep going on, because if you loose your aura's protection for even a second in those fights, you could die instantly.
By the way, if I saw correctly your background in previous videos, do you have the RWBY DVD's or Blu rays? You need to watch World of Remnant: Aura.
if you guys don't know, the intro scene with Ruby talking to her mom at her burial site is a tribute to Monty Oum as well~ who passed away February 2015. The crows flying towards the sun is his signature~

The show RWBY was also Monty's creation, all of the planning/plot was mostly his, and he led the animation.
So happy they continued his work :)
I can't believe you guys didn't catch the part where Nora said her and Ren didn't have any parents nor a home to go to.
To be fair, she said all that stuff too fast that it can easily pass thru someone's head. I catch that part after my 5th viewing, so...
I just don't want them to miss important details
A lot of reactors seem to miss that bit
Just wanted to point it out for you guys, but in the first minute when the birds fly towards the sun? That's Monty Oum's signature. It's a really cool little thing they did.
I think it was in the DVD commentary where it was mentioned that Monty did that scene. so after he passed, it of course had more significance :(

10:30 That in sync head tilt! XD
Eerily cool! XD
rly didnt notice that the first time then after i read ur comment i went back and looked at it and laughed my ass off
Assaultwolf neither did I!!! that was awesome!!!

Aidan Owen-Jones Not just that, he had a hand in a few other scenes
Didn't know that. I know that part of the opening scene was that *last* thing he did, but it makes sense that certain bits were done out of order.

Ah, starting volume 3. Welcome to hell and all the feels.
Dare I dream of an I.T. Crowd reaction with Eric?

This is going to be so much fun.

"She's not a God"
Well that's debatable......btw this is not a spoiler or anything
10:30 Intense synchronized head-tilt LOL
also at 3:26 the birds form Monty Oum's signature
"I want to watch another episode" that will be what you want this ENTIRE volume lol!
What I love is that the intro songs really reflect the tone of the season. This third season is pretty chaotic, just like the song.
It makes sense the way they chose the two for the doubles... You have the tankiest team member who can also dish out the most individual damage (Yang), as well as the most versatile and glass cannon support/sweeper of the team (Weiss). :)

Jaer Nihiltheus That's basically an instant win
now you guys can watch the death battle between yang and tifa,
Chris Koloski I like your profile.
Nannapat Kuwalairat it's a spoopy banana
As much I would want them to react to it ASAP, they still haven't figure it out who's the guy in the intro (I know they seem sure here, but in the early access reaction they seem to forgot when he shows up in the bar). I forgot that you guys were uploading Vol. 3 Ch. 1 today and I almost screamed when I saw this! :D
The Beginning is a tribute to Monty Oum, Creator. RIP
YA'LL TILTED YOUR HEAD AT THE SAME TIME, AND THAT SHOOK ME
Why do you guys never put Ren on the table? Just curious.
We don't have one.
Blind Wave Oh man, that's gonna drive my OCD insane XD
But thanks for answering my question;)

9:36 - "I was being facetious." "Oh, I'm sorry. There's a bathroom right over there."
Can't wait to see the next RWBY reaction! The hype is real!
THAT SYMCHRONIZED HEAD TILT! XD
You really need to watch the Yang vs Tifa Death Battle before getting too far into this volume. It fits between seasons 2 and 3.
So, between now and before Ch. 4, pretty please react to Death Battle: Yang vs Tifa, 22:02 and also it serves to enhance how awesome Yang is
Changed my mind, I think it would be better if you react to the Death Battle right after Ch. 3. Because spoilers... well, minor kinda insignificant spoiler, but spoiler not the least.
this volume is not for the weak hearted, hope you dudes are prepared...
My final comment that I will leave is that as this volume progresses you will be on the edge of your seat.
Monty had passed away at this point, and its now his brother Neath who does Ren's Voice. (Also you should watch the Yang vs Tifa death battle as it was made between seasons two and three)

Bunny Waffles you forgot Sun's
As far as I'm aware, Monty Oum at the very least did choreography for several fights in volume 3 before he passed. And of course, he had the story planned out.
SEASON 3 yyyyaaaaaasssss, things get a lot more 'interesting' ;)
i never thought about it till now but that big ass mountain blocks the view for about an eighth of the people
Guys, you forgot world of remnant 4, its is not in the playlist. it was placed right before volume 2 finale.
marpheus1 it was not released to the public it was originally only on the dvd but then someone put it one youtube
Imo Yang is the strongest Weiss is the most versatile
Neither Jaune nor Ren semblances have been revealed yet. Actually a lot of characters in RWBY don't have their semblances revealed.
Vol 3 has a lot of tribute to Monty. What you've seen as of this episode - Monty voiced Ren, his brother Neath takes over for him. Also, the shot of the sun after Ruby is done at the grave stone - the birds form Monty's signature with the sun.
The sun and the bird formed Montys signature it a frame.
So you know:
There is a specific piece of animation in Volume 3 Chapter 9, it is the final piece of Motion Capture done by Monty.
So there are still bits of his work thru this volume.
3:32
Monty's signature
What a legend
10:33 is the best thing ever 😂😂😂
Ruby and gangs dads team idea .....impregnate the entire team everyone lol and the song is supposed to fit each volume and sometimes shows hints at what will happen in the next volume
Volume 3 has my favourite song
10:30 Blind wave, initiate synchronized head tilting.
Two more weeks to my favourite episode
Do yang vs Tifa DEATH BATTLE
Oh yeah they can do it already!
Supermonaman SuperMonaman Are you watching the episodes with them?
No I just wrote comments like this and saved them every week after the episodes came out. Thanks for the correction I know that I was just too lazy to rewrite this comment.
Supermonaman SuperMonaman Cinder and her team came from Haven which is in Mistraal not Shade
+Capraminus
Monty actually animated the PvP fight scene before his passing.
zeke Ya if I recall correctly they even recorded va for the PN vs SN fight and had it pretty much all planned out.
Are you guys gonna do the Yang vs Tifa Death Battle now?
As much I would want them to react to it ASAP, they still haven't figure it out who's the guy in the intro (I know they seem sure here, but in the early access reaction they seem to forgot when he shows up in the bar). So once they watch Ch. 3, when he's fully introduced, then pretty please (guys) react to the Death Battle
Fun fact, the birds that fly towards the sun in the beginning of the episode acctualy, along with the sun, form monty oum's signature
Hey Blind Wave crew, I just wanted to say thanks for your awesome videos and for introducing me to yoohoo's which unfortunately I now have an addiction to.
you know you can watch two per episode if you want. im sure everyone else would want that too. catch up and provide more content. And satisfy ALL parties.
dayneplaylogic dont they have other things to watch and review and time management as well?
I dunno, I'm just a drunk 24 year oldman college man watching RWBY reactions to pass time on the crapper.
dayneplaylogic sad
Well that's what the alcohol is for.
dayneplaylogic hope you bounce back bud
- Summer Rose: "The Last Rose of Summer" by Thomas Moore
- Taiyang Xiao Long: ?????
- Arslan Altan: Aslan
- Nadir Shiko: Nadeshiko flowers
- Bolin Hori: Hebo
Horraayy for Early Access!!!
My God Nora was so relatable here. Literally what happened to people who didn't make varsity sports at my high school to a T to the point where I was getting not quite PTSD flashbacks
If you analyze the lyrics of the intro song, you can determine the tone for the volume. Which is why the intro song changes with each volume.
Where did my Hoverboard go....?
ah volume 3
hype!!!
"She's not a god" lmaoooo
Also, the animation is noticeably better in Vol. 3
12:30, I feel Weiss' pain. The same thing happened to me earlier today & I don't know why.
You can do Tifa vs Yang Deathbattle now.
No spoilers
Yes
As much I would want them to react to it ASAP, they still haven't figure it out who's the guy in the intro (I know they seem sure here, but in the early access reaction they seem to forgot when he shows up in the bar). So once they watch Ch. 3, when he's fully introduced, then pretty please (guys) react to the Death Battle
Little did you know that the reason that Mercury was sniffing the boot is because good quality leather boots have a distinct smell
Ren was shown to have a sort of force field (when he fought the hunt snake in volume 1) and I don't think we know jaunes for sure yet but he was shown to heal himself (that might be a universal trait of aura's tho idk) when his aura was unlocked by Pyrrha in vol 1.
I kinda wish you guys hadn't watched the intro until after like episode 4, but I still love seeing your reactions.
6, 7,9,11,12
Those are the ones I can't wait for you three to react to.
Mike yessss
Mike 3?
AP4e_ oh yeah that too.
tulicloure I have love for all of them I just want to see them toreact to these ones in particular but eight is well done too.
tulicloure 5 is my least favourite episode of the whole show pretty much so I'm not looking forward to that one but I realise some people actually liked and I actually like FNKI so whatever I guess. Plus gotta get through that to get to the amazing 6-12.
Someone send them the Sound Track of all the volume of RWBY
#Broken Carter yes!!
Fun Fact! When you smell boots and it has a distinct smell, that means it has fine quality
You guys need to watch the episodes on the Rooster Teeth website as they have the updated versions where all the mistakes and glitches have been reworked and fixed. Love the reactions by the way. Keep it up!
noticed on the grave it says "Summer Rose"
If anyone hasn't told you already, the voice actor for Mercury changed to the guy who voices Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto
you guys missed a world of remnant, it came before V3 Ch 1 aired
It's called Volume 3 World of Remnant 1 (about the Vytal Festival)
There are 3 more for volume 3 called: Huntsmen, Cross Transmit Continental System, and One more that I won't say yet because of spoilers. These videos are not in the playlist for some reason however they still exist on youtube and are still published by rooster teeth, they are just not in the playlist.
