- 6 quick, easy and affordable aftermarket parts for long distance off-road riding on your Royal Enfield Himalayan
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is a great bike for off-road touring, but like every motorcycle, there's a few easy things you can do to improve your off-road experience.
If you're new to adventure motorcycling, or you're a new Royal Enfield Himalayan owner (welcome to the club!), this video will be helpful for you. It will give you an idea of the first things to look for when setting your bike up for a more comfortable off-road experience.
In line with our philosophy at OpenRoads, you don't need to be an expert or have heaps of cash to get out on the tracks. These modifications are inexpensive and don't require technical knowledge, BUT, don't forget! They aren't a prerequisite to a good time 😀
Thank you to

🔎 VIDEO OUTLINE 🔎
(00:00) Tyres
The Himalayan comes with the standard Pirelli tyre, which have a tread that's pretty good for off-road, but probably not good enough for what I'm looking to do.
So I'm going to upgrade to the Shinko 244s, dual purpose motorcycle tire for heavier duty off-road situations without compromising on the road as well.
This tyre has a cat's claw tread pattern, which is sort of like a knobbie without having the wear that would normally happen when you take it on the highway.
The horizontal and vertical gaps in the patterns are going to give me way more traction because of the way that they're going to move the surface through the tread.
So versus having something like this Shinko tire, which was also an option, this has only got one way grooves, great tire for highways and off-road, but for what I need to do, I just needed something that was more on the knobbie side of things.
(01:04) Windscreen
This is the standard windscreen that comes with Himalayan. It's probably one of my only gripes with the bike.
Unfortunately for my height, and I'm a pretty standard height, I'm 1.7, it puts the wind straight up into my face.
If I put my helmet on, you'll see that wind can go straight into my peak, which causes me a lot of stress in my neck. And a lot of vibration and wind noise.
What I've got to put on the bike now, which I'm super excited about, is a slightly taller windscreen from Hitchcock's in the UK.
And this should help put the wind over my head rather than straight into my face.
(01:53) GPS mount
So this is the thing that I will not leave home on my motorcycle without. It doesn't matter where I'm going. If I'm going overseas, if I'm going around the corner, I'll always have something that can charge my phone and mount my phone.
This particular GPS Mount is from Enfield Accessories. And I love it because it's really high up, which means I can mount my phone here and I can also mount a GoPro backwards - so I can get that nice personal shot of myself if I'm filming for a documentary. It also has a built in USB charger.
So it's just an amazing setup, which means I don't have to worry about mounting all sorts of different things just to get my phone on my handlebars to charge.
(03:06) Foot pegs.
If you're going to be doing some serious off-roading through puddles, mud or any kind of water, then you're going to want to look at improving your stock foot pegs. Спорт
Got a Himalayan myself and I’m definitely going to take notes on these modifications! Cheers from Mexico 🇲🇽
I love how you show us what the product is, its function and how to install it
Can't wait to see the new adventures!!!
They are coming!! 2021 lot's planned :D
Love those kind of tires wow
Love this bike!
Great work and interesting video. Greetings from Valencia, Spain.
Wonder full tips ever I so excited
Fender risers and better off road tires are indeed an absolute must on the Himalayan if you plan to spend any time in the dirt. Both make a world of difference.
worthy information
Very interesting video ! I'm a fresh new owner of a Himalayan and I would like to see more content like this ! Like maintenance, cleaning, tips ...
Great work, thanks ! 🔥🔥
Awesome, let us know if there’s anything in particular you’re looking for!
sweet! im thinking alot to buy the himalayan when the summer is back in norway. and also I think it so nice to see a woman and not just old dudes on adv bike all the time. hope you can inspire more women to join the adventur travels!!
Thanks! Ohhhhh Norway is one of my favorite countries to ride!!! I rode to Nordkapp and then over to Finland - definitely a highlight of my life.
@@OpenRoads yeah thats cool! we have alot of nice wildersness up north. Iv worked many years as an outdoor guide there :)
Old dudes only riding the GS and Africa Twin, the new Himalayans are for the hip crowd
Nice update 👍
Very practical and efficient mods
Short and sweet Love from India
❤️ 🇦🇺
Beautiful 👌Watching from Bhutan 🇧🇹
Thanks and welcome!
Nice video about accessories for Himalayan 👍
Glad you liked it
Very informative vedio 👍
Hi! Did nearly the same modifikations. You talked about offroad riding so i'd highly recommend the rear mudguard offered also by Hitchcok. I also can recommend pivot pegs, they really are an improvement. Additional I mounted ceramic brake pads. Greetings and save riding!😉
Absolutely loving those tyres.
They are great aren’t they. They are the best duel purpose I’ve used on the himi so far aside from Dunlop 606 (but those degrade really fast!)
@@OpenRoads yeah, grip wise they are really good and it's pretty understandable that anything with good grip is made of softer compound that wear off faster. And I gotta say, that mount which came with the wind visor is blowing my mind. I have never seen anything like it before. Great place to provide a mount. I gotta introduce this idea among bikers out here in my place 😀. What's your name bdw?
Yeah it’s great! Only thing is that lately my GoPro Mount and phone have been too heavy for it and the screw has started to come loose. Will need to add a bit of glue to keep it in place. I’m Jess! I’m the owner of OpenRoads and the person you see loads on here 😄
Love from India 😍
🤘🤘
Useful video 👍👍
Thank you 😊
Hi, great video for the himalayan, do you mind telling me what sizes you used for the tyres, i think i will purchase some for my himalayan. Thanks a million
So firstly thanks for a great informative video 👍 iv just bought a 2021 Euro 4 same colour pick it up this Saturday 🥳😊 when I test rode it the wind noise was awful with the original screen 🥴 so the guy said I’ll take it off and now go and ride it again…. What a difference it transferred the ride so what sort of difference does that extra 6 cm on that screen really make I’m 6ft 🤔
Nice vlog
Thanks 🙂
Hi,
Thank you for info on aftermarket accessories. Can you able to provide windshield accessory link. I really like that and want to Install on my Himalayan
Very beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Great 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
@@OpenRoads your welcome
Your voice is so deep ❤️
Haha thank you! Never heard this as a compliment before but I’ll take it!
Every adventure rider we've been watching for years has driven the Royal Enfield Himalayan, up into the mountains of Northern India and Nepal, since it's introduction, and with superior success compared to other bikes so, am wondering, why did you and Andy ride anything else up into the mountains, last year?
Also, when I recently had new tires replace the old cracked sidewall factory tires on my Suzuki C50T touring bike, my friends who grew up in China told me Not-To let the local powersports shop put made in China, Shinko tires on my bike.
I ultimately chose Metzeler ME888 Ultra, designed in Germany; manufactured in South Korea.
I agree, the multi-design knobbies offer more stability offroad. Please, let us know, how well the Shinko off road tires you chose for your Himalayan perform.
...... PS: Thanks so very much for sharing your 2019 friends adventure ride with us. My now late partner, Carol Ann and I created so many treasured/precious memories of our adventures together, I am inspired to continue with the plans we had to travel on our bike soon as weather breaks in Spring.
I love my Shinko tyres they are so good. They make a slight high pitched noise at high speed on the highway but they handle algae covered rocks with ease. I will report back with how long they last.
Andy was hell bent on getting the classic bikes. I did mention to him that we should take CrossFires (Himalayans at the time were not available to hire because they were so new and too expensive to import into Nepal). But in the spirit of the classic road trip we decided to go for the classics - big mistake haha!
Honestly, even the Himalayan is perfect for Upper Mustang, Nepal. Dirt bikes are the only thing that will allow you to get the torque needed at such a high altitude. But they are a sick bike, and they do do the job pretty well!
@OpenRoads did the windshield worked?
How's the higher screen, is it better than the stock one?
Where can I find those foot pegs? I can't seem to find ones that simply bolt on top of the OEM pegs..
Wow what a heavenly voice🙏👍.
Thank you!
What tire sizes did you use? I'm not sure what the correct tire sizes are in inches.
I removed the top front guard and used its spacers to raise the bottom guard 22mm. Cheap fix.
Yep thats a good idea! The top guard is only for aesthetics, doesn't really do all that much.
Can you share the link for windshield and gps mount ...mods look awesome ...
Yep will update the description with the direct links shortly
Updated :)
@@OpenRoads thank you ...
I think the Heel guard is from Enfield Accessories, not Zana! Great video though!
Oh oh! Haha I’ll have to check this!
Your accent's amazing!
Nice video
If u mentioned parts link it will help us.
Links to the companies are in the description, I’ll see if I can find the exact links ✌️
@@OpenRoads Be nice if you could as you put "enfield accessories" into search and multiple pages later still cant find that gps mount
So here are some

Shinko IN ..couldn't find
Shinko Aus shinkotyres.com.au/
Hitchcock UK accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/
India himalayan-tools.com/shop/
Zana www.zanainternational.com/
at least the ones I can find...hope helps..not endorsed by me just found links...
I have the GIVI protection (TN9050) installed on my Himalayan.
The left part protrudes and continuously hits the left ankle.
I have contacted the manufacturer, sent photos, and explained the problem.
They have treated me correctly, but they tell me that the protection is designed that way.
Other users have the same problem.
Is your bike a BS4 or BS6?
if they would bring the hp and torque up on these bikes they talked about it
I will machine some fender spacers on my Lathe.
💪💪
Plz Add the accessories link
Alrighty! Updated for you :)
Thank you so much..love from India 🇮🇳
I always wanted that windshield, but it cost 72 pounds which is Rs7,500 which is dam expensive for a windshield and i cant afford that at this moment. I wish some one from india can pick it up this model and do at a reasonable cost.
There might be some in India, we will check!
Beautiful woman .... The motorcycle 🤔🤔
Which one? Haha!
Mileage
The windscreen when sold outside India does need to be bigger. But in India you are taller than the average man.
Actually, she is about as tall as the average Indian man. I am maybe 2-3 inches taller than her and even with a street helmet I get some really intense buffeting from the screen whenever I test ride a Himalayan at a dealer.
The stock screen is bad for the average Indian rider. My friends who own Himalayans and have had trouble with the screen are 5'11" and 6'1". They, like many Indian owners, have removed the screen altogether to fix this issue.
Therefore, the Himalayan needs to have a taller screen or just a tiny one that extends only an inch above the instrument panel in *all* markets.
@@twowheeledparadox average Indian man is 5ft 6 according to national stats. I know it varies greatly Punjabi are tall and the NE men are normally only about 5ft 3.
Oooooh I’m 5ft 7 so I’m pretty much the average Indian man size!
@@corychartier7961 Yes, average heights do vary by state. My point still stands, though. You have to be pretty short to be able to use the windscreen's protection. Shorter than the average Indian man. Personally, I would remove or chop the stock screen to get around the buffeting issue. It makes a huge difference.
@@twowheeledparadox I agree it needs improved or made adjustable.
Seems like your helmets too big
